|| Part 2 ||
Arnav turned to her, his eyes barely managing to hide his almost-dementia. What was happening to him?! Yes, he had always known that his strength would be at its peak when she was with him. His frenzied eyes looked for some solace from her eyes which were smiling up at him with love and shone with pride - Of what she was proud, Arnav did not know. Had he not failed to handle the same strength and humiliated them both? By hurting his teacher?! He covered the distance between them in two long strides and embraced her with such force that it took Khushi's breath away. She neither bothered about her gasping for air nor did she bother about him roughly holding her. She was off her feet, the moment he had swooped down to hug her like this. And now, she slowly hugged him back, trembling with anticipation as she tried to calm him down.
"You have to control yourself, Arnav." She explained with a patience of a mother towards her naughty child, "Or else I will simply have to leave." she said in a grave voice, and that made him flinch back in pain and out of their embrace, and Khushi was pushed back by a few steps. 'She mustn't leave!' His mind screamed as he looked down at the ground, his breathing slowly coming back to normal. Khushi went back to him and cupped his face. "You remember the prophecy, do you not, My Lord?" she quizzed, and Arnav felt a tiny bubble of joy pop inside him when she called him 'My Lord'. It was not like he was called that for the first time by her.
While writing letters to each other, they had fallen into this habit.
"Sage Chaitanya's prophecy says that you would be the Queen of Jnaana Kshetra, someday, Khushi.
You shall guide our kingdom to its peak.
I better start calling you 'Your Highness'!"
And Khushi had very soon replied to this letter, "If I am to be the Queen, Arnav, you shall be my King. And hence I should start calling you 'My Lord' too."
"I like my new name, Highness." Arnav had replied, and henceforth that is what they had both addressed each other as.
Arnav sighed before he answered her present question.
"He shall meet his equal and that would be indicated by his talisman glowing with the purest of light! It would give him so much power that it would take all of him to control it and learn to reign it! But he shall succeed. For the future of Jnaana Kshetra depends on him." Arnav stated as he put his arms around her, locking his hands at the small of her back. His gaze went to the pendant that laid at the base of his throat, and which glowed beautifully, and then to look into the eyes of Khushi, who was staring at it too. "Though I do not get it, My Lord! If I am to rule Jnaana Kshetra, how does its future lay in your hands?! Not that I object you ruling it!" Khushi asked, making Arnav smile, before he answered, "IT should not make much difference, Highness. Whether you rule the kingdom, or I. And it means that I have been given much more responsible job of protecting you. No harm can come your way, because it would have to face me first!" His voice turned threatening at the end of his speech, and Khushi tightened his hold around his neck. "But I do not wish for you to face any harm!" Khushi exclaimed, and he gave her a wry look. "Do you really think that anything could harm me when you are there with me, Highness?"
"Why, I certainly wish it shan't, My Lord!" Khushi said, and got an answering kiss from him on her forehead. She closed her eyes as his lips lingered there for a while longer and she then rested her head on his shoulder, hiding her face in the warm crook of his neck. "How does it feel? To have that abundant strength surge through you?" Khushi asked, and found Arnav taking in a shaky breath. "I do not know for how long I shall be able to fight it back, Khushi." He said, sounding tired, and Khushi lifted her face to look at him with concern. He indeed looked tired. She pulled him towards the tree which he had uprooted a few minutes ago, and willed a soft lawn to cover the ground so that he could rest. Arnav laid down with a smile and rested his head in her lap, kissing her bare waist once. "It would be better for you to keep your mouth to yourself, My Lord!" Khushi warned, and Arnav laughed guilelessly at it, before he challenged her, "Or what, Khushi?"
Arnav was soon found dangling in the air, as his feet held by one of the creepers on the tree, as he flailed his arms for a second, before he yelled, "Khushi!!" Khushi laughed as she saw the surprised look on Arnav's face. She stood up, bringing her face in level with his, as she said, "Remember, My Lord! You may obtain the utmost strength when you have me with you. But I was born with a few powers of my own. And you can never succeed against nature. She is my mother!"
Arnav looked disgruntled, as he said, "Mother nature may have not bestowed me with her powers, but she nevertheless is my mother too. I would never fight against her!" Khushi smiled and bent a little to kiss his frown away before she willed him to be freed and he was made to sit on the ground, his back resting against the tree. She smiled warmly at the creeper and touched it gently, making it glow with good health. She sat on his lap, hiding her face in the crook of his neck. His hands involuntarily encircled her waist, and she demanded, "If I asked you something, would you give it to me?" "Anything, my love." Arnav's answer was immediate.
"Fight with me." Khushi stated and felt herself being pulled back out of his embrace.
"You are asking this, Khushi?! After seeing how I hurt my own teacher?! I can live with the shame that I felt when I hurt him, Khushi, but I could not withstand it if I hurt you!" Arnav replied with all the fervor in him. Khushi glanced at his hand on her waist, and looked back into his eyes, smiling. Arnav's eyes turned puzzled, and she exclaimed, "You see these hands, My Lord?" He did not even look at his hands as he nodded and urged her to continue. "I do not think they would ever know how to hurt me." Khushi said conspiratorially, and he shook his head firmly. "No, Highness! At least not right now. Maybe in the future. When I learn to control this strength." His voice easily told that what he meant was, "Never! Do not even think about it! EVER!"
Khushi pulled back as she said with a pout, "But why?! Do you not know? That the way to conquer a challenge is to face it head first?!" Arnav was about to refuse her when he heard his teacher say, "She is right, son." They both stood up, Khushi, a little embarrassed that she had been caught, sitting on his lap, and Arnav not at all bothered about it. "Par, Guruji!" Arnav objected, when he was interrupted by his teacher, "Fight her, you shall. And that is final." Arnav stood resolute, not even bowing to his teacher in respect, and this did not go unnoticed by Sage Shastradhaari. But he knew this was necessary. He did not worry about the young woman who stood in front of him. For he knew two things that Arnav did not. First, that Khushi was a well-versed warrior herself. Second, Arnav would never let anyone hurt her. Not even himself!
"It is time we had dinner. You can come after sometime, though." Sage Shastradhaari offered the young lovers, which Arnav immediately declined. "No, Guruji. We were about to return." He said that and left, almost running away. "I beg your pardon on his behalf, Guruji. You know how thick-headed he can be, at times." Khushi offered and the Sage smiled at her, "Even more so, when it comes to matters related to you."
Khushi lowered her gaze immediately, a faint blush spreading through her neck and face. "But, of course!" she muttered, meant only for herself, and the plants around her shook with the wind, almost as if laughing with her, at their private joke. . . . .
