Today's episode was like a mega loop closure for me. From the very first days of seeing all those Arpita photos on the walls of Yash's room, and then seeing his OCD, and then finally seeing him today running across the city road like a mad man … we people in this Forum have for long been saying "Yash needs psychiatric help!" Finally we have come to that very point of the story, where all the hungama of the past few episodes has culminated in the doctor declaring to Yash's parents and family that he needs therapy.
Today in fact Yash was almost totally out of his mind to the point of being best described as a raving maniac. Running barefoot on road after road, not knowing where he was going but just having to go somewhere to lose the ghastly voices and tortures in his head. It was some superb acting by Gurmeet the actor, but it was difficult to watch the ragged and desperate condition of the character Yash.
Today I want to set my theme for this analysis as the "BREAKING POINT". Yash seems to have finally been broken fully in mind and body. He has reached a point of no return. From now he can go only in one direction, fortunately. And that is towards a better future when he can hope to lose his mental bogies and emerge saner, safer and more of a man. But there will be a long and slow journey to make from this breaking point towards the rosier futur, so we viewers will have to go through the upcoming episodes, seeing daily some very gradual signs of Yash getting back his mind and heart.
There are four points I want to make today about this state Yash is in, this "breaking point" … it looks like it is his problem, but in fact his breaking point is breaking everybody else also!
1. What was the real cause of this breaking point in Yash? Do we yet have the full answers? Have we got the full explanation of why Yash has thus erupted after the Mumbai trip?
We saw a flashback today of Yash and Aarti trying to salvage the ruined photos and things of Arpita in Mumbai when suddenly Aarti admits she forgot to switch off the geyser and that has sparked off the fire. That sent Yash into a spin. He looked like his anger was reaching a climax and he started talking as if he as blaming Aarti for the loss of the Arpita memories. But even so, it has still not answered the question why he then started destroying Arpita's memories in Bhopal? Is Yash a half-lunatic guy now, one moment wanting to preserve Arpita's memories and the next minute himself destroying her memories? And when Aarti was doing a bit of self-talk today, she herself referred to the fact that she still was not sure what she has done to make Yash so angry. I'd say we all still have not got the ful picture of the reasons for Yash's anger … his anger at Aarti, his anger at himself and his anger at Arpita all seem mixed up in him, and we viewers may get to know the real truth only when the psychiatrist himself gets to the bottom of this whole saga of Yash's tortured mind.
2. What is the state of the family? Have they reached breaking point too? Who is already a basket case and who is the one with the ability to endure this mess?
Gayatri and the Bua look like they have reached the end of the tether themselves. Vidhi, Pankaj and Pratik seem to be on the fence, neither blaming Aarti nor actually absolving her of the blame. All that the family members seem to know is that somehow the face of Aarti seems to make Yash completely keel over with mad anger. I did not like the way Gayatri so blatantly blames Aarti, but I can feel for her as a mother. Not knowing what is wrong with Yash is killing her. All she knows at this moment is to somehow keep Aarti away from Yash because the sight of her makes him go ballistic. Gayatri seems herself to have no options but to phsyically, mentally, emotionally and even painfully to somehow push Aarti out of Yash's range. But the redeeming personality in all this is the Casanova. Today again it was his day. He was able to shut up the Bua and not join in Gayatri's castigation of Aarti. He too is a doting father who is very worried about his son. He was devastated to hear of Yash being in hospital, especially after the way he shouted at his father and then ran away in a frightful fit of madness. But the Casanova stopped short of holding Aarti as responsible for Yash's condition. In the coming epsiodes I have a feeling that the part the Casanova plays is going to be critical to the marriage of Yash and Aarti remaining intact after all the intense pressure it is now going through from all sides.
3. Will Yash have a complete change of heart here? Will he awaken a different man? Or will he lose his memory? Will he forget either Arpita or Aarti?
It is in scenes like the one we had today that the whole story of the serial may have reached some kind of breaking point. As I saw Yash lying in hospital, dazed and dozing, I started wondering all kinds of things: Will he wake up soon or will he stay unconscious for longer? Will he have amnesia when he wakes up? Will he recognise himself, or Aarti? Will he forget his past life or his present life? I have a feeling that depending on what Yash's state is when he wakes up, the whole story track could change. The precap shows the doctor saying "He has endured intense stress and has had some kind of psychotic episode. He needs psychiatric therapy." That suggests to me that when Yash wakes up he is not going to be his previous self definitely. My past experience with serials seems to suggest to me that he may have some kind of a memory loss. I am not sure if the Mittals will take things in this direction. If he forgets his days with Arpita, he may well start leaning on Aarti as his soulmate for his psychological recovery. If on the other hand he forgets his marriage to Aarti, he may regress back to an even more severe form of Arpita-hanging-on. If he wakes up without a memory loss but in desperate need of psychiatric counselling, it could well mean that Aarti may be sent back to the Dubeys to keep her out of Yash's sight till he shows some signs of healing. Anything can happen, but in which new direction, is the question.
4. What is the condition of Aarti? What should she do now? Unfortunately Yash's breaking point may also become Aarti's breaking point? Her mind is not too stable now either!
What will be the condition and immediate future fate of Aarti is going to depend heavily on what Yash behaves like when he wakes up. Who knows – the family may well decide that Aarti needs to be separated from Yash for his own good. Alternatively, the doctor may well say that Aarti will be needed in Yash's life because she is crucial to his recovery. The pendulum for Aarti may swing either way. In fact if Yash has some sort of memory loss (as a result of his intense stress) and if due to this he "forgets his days wth Arpita" and clings on to Aarti, there is still going to be no satisfaction for Aarti. To have the love of a man who is close to her only because he cannot remember his past is no good for Aarti. She is now in a very emotionally and psychologically vulnerable state herself as she loves him quite intensely. She may not herself be able to withstand having Yash love her through his amnesia only to lose Yash again when he regains his memory. And again, if Yash has forgotten Aarti and is in an exclusive Arpita-memory mode, then too Aarti gains no satisfaction. Aarti's situation is at this moment completely in the handsof Yash and his family. In their desperation to cure Yash they may all break Aarti to pieces.
All in all, I felt as if today was a critical episode that can change the direction of the story and the marriage into a new kind of track where both Yash and Aarti may have to go through some "psychological" tests of fire. From now for at least a few more weeks it may not be the story of the Yash-Aarti marriage we are going to see. We may instead have to see some kind of "individualized recovery phase" when Yash and Aarti separately have to find their way back to some kind of a normal human stability. The marriage is at a standstill. It will have to be kept in the background till the two characters recover. Today everything looks like a wreck. Let's see how the able doctor can heal Yash slowly and how Aarti also heals in the process.
