I have been pondering about this since last night and decided to share it. If nothing else, it'll at least give me some peace of mind to vent. Having thought about Jahnvi-V's character development recently, I made a "What Could/Should Have Happened" list and organized it in a way that I hope makes sense to readers.
Basically, I missed that the CVs tried to show what women should do in a situation such as Jahnvi's, but... anyway.
Dear CVs, what Jahnvi should've/could've done:
1) Post Didi's revelation, they should've shown Jahnvi pause in some abandoned place to consider her situation. Should she run for her life or should she return and fight? They should've shown her piecing together every small detail about V that her mind had noticed but purposely ignored/suppressed. Including all the strange happenings ever since he turned up in the house with a fake memory loss. Then they might have skipped the part where reached her resolve and left us in suspense as to what she'd decided to do.
2) When she returned, they should've focused on how hyper aware her senses were. She should've been shown scanning the house for V. Instead of showing V and Krish, they could've set up a Horror scene in which everything is silent and, even knowing that V is n the house, she's unable to pinpoint where and makes sure that Krish is all safe in his room. They should've shown her in Krish's room, attempting to access the situation she's in and outsmart V. Should she a) try to reach Raghav by calling him, b) try to run with Krish and risk being caught, or c) play V's game and bide her time until the family returned home or she could find a way out safely.
The latter would've been the smartest move since V would be keeping an eye on her. Plus, as long as she doesn't trigger him by exposing that she knows, he'll keep up his own appearance and not harm her or Krish. However unsure that bet is. Point is that this was the writers' chance to show how clever Jahnvi is and they should've spent a bit more time on her thought process at this point in outsmarting V.
3) The letter switch could have and should have been executed differently. For one thing, Jahnvi shouldn't have been shown stupid enough to drop the letter. In fact, it would've shown her as clever and "I've learned my lesson with V now" if she had hid it as soon as she'd made sure Krish was safe in his room. Then if V had to be shown switching the letters, he could've done it while she was downstairs, trying to reach Raghav on the phone.
Furthermore, they should've shown Jahnvi checking on Krish before she headed into the kitchen to make dinner for V. Because she could've used the opportunity to, in a paranoid state of mind, check the letter and find it blank -- thus coming to the very conclusion that V knows that she knows about him.
This would up the stakes in the game. Tense things further. Because now both would be playing the game as equals. He knows that she knows and vice versa. The question would now be: Who cracks first?
4) The kitchen scene. It should've been a more obvious game between the two and a game where both are equally clever. Jahnvi should've been shown aware of his every movement, every breath -- meaning that when he sniffed her hair, they should have allowed us to see her disturbed reaction [since we could see her face while V could not], but at the same time the determination on her face that she wasn't about to give V any reaction that might trigger the monster or give him the upperhand.
5) And finally, the confrontation scene should've shown V coming to Jahnvi and not the other way around. Because his transformation was complete. And also because showing a woman seek out a psychopath in his room, on his play terms, is not all that clever a move -- especially with a child in the house.
Dear CVs, what V should've/could've done:
1) From the start, V should've been shown utterly confused about Jahnvi/Sia. They should've shown him noticing small details that didn't connect with Jahnvi, but with Sia, and how it bothered him to the extent that he became paranoid -- which would result in the scene [where he babbled on about how Sia confided in Raghav and how she couldn't be trusted] making sense. Including that he wanted Jahnvi back, not Sia.
2) From the start, Double V should've been shown in black and only black. The usual stylish wear that is V's trademark clothing style. While V should've worn grey. This would've clarified things to viewers and brought for the actual message of the CVs, which was that V was suppressing his true nature. Showing us that Double V [his true nature] is black and showing us that V can dress in no other color but the one that'll merge with black.
3) Double V should've always had his hair loose and long. Like V. The ponytail should have only been made right before the confrontation scene last night when both Vs merged. That was when V should've pulled his hair back and gotten his stick.
4) V should have never been shown talking TO his double or even be able to see him. We, the viewers, should've been the only ones who could see Double V. He should've been added for us. V could've talked to himself, argued with his suppressed self, as he used to argue with himself alone before the Double V track. That way, he would not have appeared schizophrenic and the alter-ego blooper would not have happened either. This would've actually been interesting to watch rather than what they have shown us so far. Plus it would eliminate the "who dominates who" element since both Vs are essentially the same and equally dominating. It's just that V wanted to use a different method to achieve Jahnvi and was suppressing his actual desires.
Gosh, I don't know if any of this made any sense. If last night's episode had been a bit more on the Horror movie scene side and less on the dishum-dishum suspense side, I do believe that it would've had a stronger impact. They could've simply stretched the confrontation over two episodes, focusing the first on Jahnvi and her resolve and her realization that V knew. And then focused the second episode on her playing his game, biding her time, and the final confrontation.
I'm missing the show's quality and standards in terms of script execution and, well, character development and logic. Sigh.
If you managed to read through this post without nodding off, thank you đł
