{OS: ' And This Is Your Husband Speaking...'}
Khushi stood in the kitchen, helping HP make dinner, lost in her thoughts. Was it really her fault? Had Shantivan lost its charm, laughter, liveliness due to her? Was she really bad luck? Her thoughts were interrupted as Nani walked into the kitchen and conversed with HP. 'Hari Prakashji, I will finish off here, you go clean up Chotte's room, he had a long day today', Nani said to him, looking at Khushi all the while as she spoke and took her place on the stove, next to Khushi. HP nodded and exited the kitchen leaving behind the kitchen to the two ladies. Khushi felt awkward standing next to Nani knowing she had disobeyed her earlier and Nani was was very upset with her. 'Naniji, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to disobey you, I was just-', Khushi spoke only to be cut off by Nani who stirred the daal for the last time, turned off the stove and turned to face Khushi, keeping her hand in front of her signalling her to stop. 'No Khushi bitya. What you did today can not be corrected with a sorry. Do you know what your actions did to Anjali bitya?', Khushi could no longer see the woman in her eye. She lowered her gaze and a lone tear escaped her eye. 'Because of you, our bitya almost-almost...', Nani said unable to complete her sentence. She threw a disgusted look at Khushi and jerked her from her shoulders. 'Are you listening to me Khushi?', she said almost shouted, as Khushi's gaze shot up to meet the fire in the eyes of Nani. 'why don't you understand? Just looking at your face, we all are reminded of what happened. So how do you expect Anjali bitya, who suffered the most, to stay calm after looking at you?', she said. Nani closed her eyes shut before opening them up again. 'Please bitya, stay out of her way', Nani said in a soft tone before she exited the kitchen leaving Khushi in a state of shock. She stared in front of her, the words spoken by Nani reverberating in her head again and again. She threw her face in her palms and started crying uncontrollably.
Arnav was on his way towards his room to freshen up. It had taken a whole hour to calm his sister down and lull her to sleep. The events of the day, replaying themselves in his head. How he had found his sister in the hospital, how he had calmed her down. He didn't even want to think what could've happened had he reached there a minute later. He was going upstairs, when he heard his Nani's tensed voice coming from the kitchen. His legs carried him towards the kitchen on their own accord. He quietly listened to the whole conversation between his Nani and his wife. He hid himself behind the corner as he saw Nani leave the kitchen. His heart instantly bled for the girl standing in the kitchen all alone, her face in her hands, shoulders shaking, indicating she was crying. Mami had told him how it was all Khushi's fault and he had been furious. He had wanted to talk to Khushi and give her a piece of his mind after making his sister sleep. But the sight in front of him created a lump in his throat. He was about to head towards his room again, trying to escape this situation as always, when he saw Payal entering the kitchen and running towards Khushi and instantly embracing her.
'Shh, Khushi. Shh. Bus', Payal said as she rubbed Khushi's back, trying to calm her down. Khushi cried uncontrollably on her sister's shoulder knowing this shoulder was the only support she'd be getting now. 'Jiji. Am i that ugly?', Khushi managed saying between her sobs. This made Payal quickly break the hug to cup her cheeks and make her look towards her. 'Shh. Bus. What are you saying, Khushi? My sister's the most beautiful ever', she said while using her thumbs to wipe Khushi's tears. 'No Jiji. You're just saying that because you're my Jiji. My face has just become a nightmare for people now. I'm really ugly', Khushi said as she broke into another fit of sobs, crashing herself once again in her sister's arms. Payal couldn't control her tears at her sister's words. Her sister was losing her self esteem. Tears escaped Payal's eyes.
Arnav stared at the two sister's, his eyes wide in shock listening to Khushi's words. He felt like someone had just stabbed him right in the heart. He instantly felt his whole body going weak. Is the love of his life starting to lose herself to the world? What had he done to this girl? Why hadn't he stopped Nani? He made his way towards the sofas in the lounge and dropped himself on one of them. He threw his head back in the sofa and shut his eyes. 'I'm really ugly', Khushi's words kept playing in his head. 'Hello Hi Bye Bye, Phatti Saree!', he heard his Mami's voice. He opened his eyes to see his Mami, Payal and Khushi standing in front of him, Khushi holding a tray in her hand. 'What is this?, Mami inquired eyeing the tray in Khushi's hands. 'Mamiji, this is for Di, I-', Khushi spoke only to be cut off by Mami. 'Hello Hi, Bye Bye! Give this to me!', Mami said snatching the tray from her hands. 'Don't you dare step in my Anjali bitya's room. I don't want my bitya to do something stupid again, after seeing you. You have done enough', and she stormed towards Anjali's room. Arnav saw Payal place a hand on Khushi's shoulder and Khushi trying her best to stop her tears from falling. 'I wasn't even going, Jiji', Khushi said in a small voice. Arnav, who had already stood up when he heard Mami talk, tried to make his way towards Khushi, to take her in his arms and tell her it was all okay, when he saw her run upstairs, unable to control her tears anymore. 'Arnavji. Let her cry her heart out', he heard Payal speak to him. What? Let her cry? Is this woman crazy?, he thought and rushed upstairs after her.
On entering the room, he was shocked to see Khushi nowhere. He moved in the room and spotted her sitting besides the poolside, her face in her hands again. He swallowed the lump in his throat and went and sat besides her. He placed a hand on her shoulder. He saw her gasp and quickly try to wipe her tears away and he could take it no longer. He pulled her towards him from her shoulder and took her in his arms, holding on to her tightly. 'Khushi?', he said. Khushi pushed him away and stood up quickly, turning her back towards him. He stood up, shocked at her behaviour. 'Khushi?', he tried again, placing a hand on her shoulder only to have it shrugged away by her. 'Go away. You don't want to see my face', she said in her small voice. A tear threatened to escape his eyes, before he quickly moved his eyeballs around his socket, to keep it away. 'Why wouldn't one want to see the most prettiest face?', he said making Khushi turn to face him and looking at him in the eye.
Khushi could see the sincerity in his eyes. She saw him take a step forward, towards her and cup her face. She kept looking at him in his eyes, trying to read them, tears falling from her own. 'You're the most prettiest woman I've ever laid my eyes on. Just one look at you makes me thank the heavens for making you a part of my life. Just one look at your face reminds me how lucky I am to have you. Your face is the only thing I ever wish to see when I wake up in the morning, and when I sleep in the night. Just a look at your face has me thinking this is the best dream one could ever have, and I thank heavens again for it not being just a dream', he said wiping her tears off her face. Khushi felt on the top of the world again. A smile played on her face, and her eyes looked at the man of her dreams and she instantly knew she was not alone. Her worries escaped her mind and she knew she definitely meant something to someone in this world. She crashed against his chest and cried, holding him as if her life depended on it. But gone were the tears of hurt. These were the tears of joy. 'And this is your husband speaking, Khushi. So you should have no doubt about this', Arnav whispered in hear ear in a husky voice.
And both stood at the poolside, lost in each others arms, absorbing each others pain and excreting their happiness to each other.
