How many books did you read in 2025?
Arnav Singh Raizada was the epitome of cool and collected. He didn't ever "loose it", not even by mistakes. So it came as a surprise to Aman when he entered his boss's room and found him pacing, running his hand through his hair repeatedly, a sure sign that his boss was pissed, and if he didn't get out of the line of fire soon, he'd breathe his last.
"S...Sir?" Aman spoke nervously, "You called me up?"
Arnav stopped his pacing and looked at Aman irritatedly. He knew he was unfair to Aman most of the time, and he although he never apologized, he made sure Aman was well rewarded for keeping up with his temper tantrums.
"Yes, I did." He spoke, his earlier irritation still lingering in his voice. "What are my plans for today?"
Aman breathed a sigh of relief and said "Sir, you are to go over the presentations for tomorrow and make any last minute changes necessary. Other than that, you are free for the rest of the day sir"
"Okay. You can leave"
After Aman left the room, Arnav restarted his pacing. He called Aman up hoping that he could get lost in his work and forget about her!
He straightened up as a thought hit him. Why is he thinking about her and wondering what she was doing and how she looked when he could actually find out? What was her room? He remember her asking the receptionist the key for room 201. That was the right next to his. And she all but asked him out on a date.
Yes. That's what I'll do. I'll go on a date with her, and all this enigma that surrounds her will be over. I can get back to my life and live it in peace like I did before!
Having decided what to do, he called up the room service.
-----------------
Khushi had just finished having a shower and was drying her hair when she heard a knock on the door.
Wondering who it was, she looked through the peep hole to find room service. Thinking that they came to the wrong room she opened the door and said "I didn't order any room serivce, you seem to be mistaken." She smiled at the boy.
"A man in that room told me to give this to you." replied the boy pointing at the room next to her's and then to the piece of paper she was holding.
She frowned and took the paper from his hand and opened it to find a chicken scrawl.
"Be in the hotel's restaurant by 7."
Understanding who it was, she smirked and taking a pen, she wrote down her reply and told the guy to give it to the man with a smile and closed the door.
-------------------
Arnav opened his door after hearing a knock, only to find the room service boy he had sent the note with.
"Sir, Maam wanted me to give this to you" the boy said nervously.
Arnav took the note and opened it and frowned and then let out a chocked laugh.
"Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada, you seem to have been under the delusion that I am an escort. At least, I sincerely hope you were, because if that is your way of asking someone out on a date, god help you!
Ask a little nicer, and I might consider. ;)
PS: Did a 5 year old happen to write that note for you?"
Arnav smirked at the audacity of the women, who knew his name and his status and still decided to tease him.
He looked up from the note and looked around the room and found what he wanted.
-------------------
This time Khushi wasn't surprised to hear the knock. She opened the door to find the same poor boy again.
"I am so sorry for troubling you" She said with an apologetic smile.
The boy just smiled at her and gave her another note with a rose this time.
Hmm...a quick learner!
"Would you please do me the honor of accompanying me on a date at 7'o clock tonight?
PS: Was that elegant enough for you?
PPS: Don't you know it's rude to comment on someone's handwriting?"
Khushi smirked and told the boy tell the man next door that she'll be there, and paid him a tip for his patience.
-----------------------
Arnav was waiting in the restaurant at 6:50, just waiting for her to be late. He hated unpunctual people. He was hoping that she would be one of them and he could tick off one imperfection before the date even started. This would help him in the process of forgetting her after the date.
He looked up to find her walking towards him. She was a dream. She was wearing a knee length, off shoulder black Elie saab dress. Her hair was in a half-up, half-down knot and she had smoky eye makeup which pronounced her big eyes, even more. Her legs looked like they went on forever and were strapped into simple black heels. She was dressed to kill, and dead, he was!
"Hello. I hope I haven't kept you waiting long" She said to him, with a half smile that made her eyes twinkle even more.
"Not at all." He said, surreptitiously glancing at his watch. 6:58, she was punctual too. He had yet t find a fault.
He got up and held out her chair for her. She smiled at him and sat in her seat, saying "So you do know your manners!"
"I do. But I seem to forget them around you.", he smirked.
"Was that a pick up line? Cause you know, we are already on a date" she shot back.
He gifted her with one of his rare laughs and called up the waiter.
"What would you like?"
"I am new here, so why don't you tell me what's good here." She smiled at him, at the same time challenging him to guess her taste.
"We'd like two pastas and a glass of champagne for the lady, and a scotch for me" he said looking at the waiter.
"Not bad"
"Why, thank you. I am a businessman after all. My job depends on gauging people, so i'd like to think I am good at it."
"Don't get ahead of yourself , lover. I said not bad. To hear a compliment from me you'd have to work a lot harder!"
They smiled at each other.
-------------------
The date was a success. He was surprised to learn that she had just returned from abroad to settle down with her family in India. She had majored in fashion designing and was trying to find her place in the industry. He wasn't surprised to hear that she designed, what with her fashion sense. He talked about his business, and told her about how he came to be the head of AR industries.
"I thought you were some playboy hunting for women in that party" she said with a straight face.
"Really? I thought you were a corporate spy who was stalking me" he teased.
" Me, stalk you? Don't flatter yourself"
"Ouch!"
They laughed again.
----------------
Neither of them had such good time in a long while. They walked up to their rooms together, reluctant for the night to end.
"So...", Khushi said.
"So"
"I guess that's it"
"Is it?" he leaned in for a kiss.
She side stepped him and laughed.
"I don't get to first base until the second date!" She teases, throwing his words back at him.
He smirked and turned to leave.
She grabbed his hand and pulled him towards her, leaned and placed a kiss on his cheek.
"Good night" she smiled.
"Good night"
They both went into their rooms, and went to sleep with a small smile on their faces.
