It is raining heavily in the city of New York. The pounding sheets of rain have infused a certain uncanny sense of foreboding in the city. Two people are sitting and communicating in a cafe. Another person is eavesdropping on them. He listens carefully, as he has to report every small detail to the person who has hired him.
In another part of the city, a lady gets a phone call.
"I have the information you requested Ma'am.." he told her.
"Great'so what did you hear?" she asked.
Slowly he revealed everything he had overheard from the two.
"Thanks, you'll get your money within 24 hours..and remember if you tell anyone, you wont be able to recognize yourself.." she said to him.
"Ye-yes ma'am.." he replied and then hungup the call.
Next Day... New York Airport...
Two friends walked through the airport towards the boarding area hand-in-hand. The guy wore his hair with spikes at the front and wore dark blue jeans with a maroon ralph-lauren dress shirt which had its top three buttons open. His eyes were hazel and such that one could unknowingly drown in them, although he was the middle child with an older brother Viren and younger one Shlok, he was still spoiled, all three brothers were actually. They were known as the heart throbs and most eligible bachelors of the country. The girl beside him wore a simple salwar suit in the colors of pink and white, her eyes were golden brown, and her hair was tied in a simple ponytail. The smiles on their faces were identical and reflected their happiness which knew no bounds, after a two week vacation (during their spring break) here in the USA they were headed back to Mumbai their hometown and to their families. Suddenly the guys phone rang...picking it up he stepped to a side ushering to the girl that he'd be back in a few minutes.
'Hi Viren Bhaiya...', he said after glancing at the name flashing on his iphone.
'Hello...kaise hai tu?...', Viren asked his voice full of concern.
'Bhai mein teek hoon...app sunai app sab kaise hai?...'
'Hum sab teek hai...acha yeh batha Manvi kaise hai?...', his brother now asked him, concern still evident in his voice.
'...Ha...woh bohooth mazaai kiye hai humne yahaan...or pi-...'
'Virat! plzzz bathana kaise hai Manvi?...', Viren asked him now getting irritated at his little brothers antics.
'Manvi?...(he turned towards her as he said her name)...achi hai bhaiya... app jante ho na, merai hothai huai usse kuch nahin ho saktha...', Virat told his older brother now, as he watched his best friend hand over their passports to the lady at the register.
'Or aghar tumhare ghar anne pai usne mujhe bathaya ke tuhne meri behan ko tang kiya...toh teri khair nahin...', Viren threatened his brother.
'Ok...ok...ghar ahh kai dehkai ge...abb chalna hai...flight board ho rahi hai...app apna khayal rakyai ga or baki sab ka bhi...'.
'Ha or tu meri behan ka...bye..', Bhai said.
'Bye...', saying this Virat also turned off the phone and headed towards Manvi who was waiting for him so they could board the plane.
'Chalein?...', she asked ushering towards the tunnel that led into the plane.
'Chalo'', saying this Virat started walking, with Manvi beside him.
Once they found their seats which were right next to each others they sat down and waited for lift-off.
A Month Later'..
'Manvi! Jeevika!...jaldi karo'uffkithna time lagathi hai yeh dono!', Shruthi Chaudhry the mother of the two girls called upto them.
'Ayi Mama!...Manvi ajj tho lagtha hai pitnai walai hai'', Jeevika whispered to her little sis as they came down the steps. Both wearing gorgeous anarkali outfits, Jeevika's was maroon and Manvi's pink.
If one saw the two sisters together they would think that both were twins but infact Jeevika and Manvi had a gap of two years between them. They were completely traditional and cultured but also modern at the same time and knew how to respect their elders. Both girls were spoiled by their parents and also by their parents best friends Vishamber and Vanshika Vadera the parents of Viren, Virat and Shlok. The Chaudhry's and Vadera's were very close families with houses just across each other; they also had one big business empire named JV after the oldest child from both families. Over the years many families had come to ask for the girls' hand-in-marriage but Shashank Chaudhry had always refused saying that his older daughter Jeevika was already promised to Viren since birth, and his other daughter Manvi would be able to decide for herself once she finished her college.
After reaching the bottom step Manvi smiled as she watched her Di walk up to Viren Bhaiya's side and blush as she did so, his look was that intense. Looking away from them and around the Hall, Manvi now looked for Virat...
"Where is he?...he said he'd be here...", she thought.
'Manvi Di...Virat Bhaiya is already at the party...he said sorry...', Shlok answered her unspoken question as he walked over to her.
'Oh...', was all Manvi could say, her heart sinking as she took the information in..."Of course...of course he'd be with Maya his new girlfriend...".
'Uhh...chalein?...', Viren Bhaiya called out to them ushering to the car.
'Chalo...', Shlok said heading out to the car.
'Viren yaad hai na...jaldi anna...', Vanshika told him.
'Ji Ma...', saying this Viren Bhaiya and Jeevika Di also headed out.
Manvi started out behind them with a smile on her lips, but her close ones knew if they looked deep into her eyes all they would see was pain.
'Manvi?...', Vanshika Ma called out to her.
'Ji Ma?...', Manvi asked turning around.
'Appna khayal rakna...', Vanshika Ma asked her.
'Mein teek hoon...app chinta maat karye..', saying this Manvi walked out behind the rest.
2 hrs later...
Manvi stood next to her group of friends, her eyes searching the crowd for Virat. She had spotted him plenty of times earlier but he'd always walked off elsewhere before she could reach him. Just then she spotted him standing next to Maya with a whole bunch of their classmates. Excusing herself from the group Manvi made her way over to Virat and thought of how she missed him, and their old friendship. This last month had totally changed everything in their lives. They were in the same college even though they hadn't had the same classes due to different grade levels since Virat was ahead of her by a year; but they had still stuck together like glue. Virat used to drop her off to each of her classes' before going to his own, and then pick her up as well at the end of the class. But ever since Maya had become Virat's girlfriend, a short while after they had returned from NY it had all stopped. These days Virat barely had time for Manvi, and this was having a very negative effect on her. Where once she had been open and playful always full of mischief, now she had become very quiet and kept to herself. Unfortunately Virat had not noticed it yet because he was always out with Maya, but the rest of her family had soon caught up with the change in her and couldn't stop worrying about her after all she was the life of both families.
'Hey Virat...', she now said as she stood in front of him and Maya.
Maya was wearing a knee-length spaghetti strapped blue dress, her hair was short with the new fashion, and her eyes were small but pretty.
'Hi Manvi...', he said to her giving one of his million dollar smiles.
'Manvi?...tum pir ahh gayi!..hamara peecha karthe karthe!.', Maya screamed at her, as she turned toward Manvi.
'W...What do u mean?...', Manvi asked her, confused and looking at Virat for answers, but he was no help.
'You know exactly what i mean... you boyfriend stealing witch!!', Maya screamed at her, she was so loud everyone at the party heard her and stopped their own conversations.
'I...I...I can't even think of doing such a thing! What r u talking about?...', Manvi asked her, looking at Virat for support, but he just stood there, doing nothing and as she read his eyes she knew then he wasn't going to do anything, he now valued his girlfriend more than her, his bandariya, his best friend, his partner? Her eyes began to blur but did not tear-up, and the urge to defend herself disappeared. Maya continued to call her names, but Manvi became unaware of everything around her. Her world started to spin around her, breaking her life into pieces. Then all of a sudden she couldn't breathe, like her life was being sucked out of her and before she knew what was happening Viren Bhaiya had already led her out the front door with Jeevika Di and Shlok beside him.
Once they got home Jeevika Di escorted her to her room and helped her into bed. As Manvi closed her eyes every moment she'd spent with Virat throughout their childhood flashed before her. From their first meeting to all their pranks together leading up to the events of tonight. It was hard to believe that Virat had sided with Maya over her, he knew her better than anyone in the world and he had just stood there watching and listening breaking her trust, her friendship, and her heart.
1 week later...
Manvi got up and got ready for college like every other day this last week and then headed downstairs, and took her seat next to Di on the breakfast table. Quickly she drank a glass of orange juice to satisfy her mom and got up to leave.
'Manvi rook'.mein or Viren Ji bhi ajj college ja rahein hai'.tu humare saath chall'', Jeevika Di called out to her.
'Ok'.lakin plzz jaldi?...'.
(Viren and Jeevika both had already graduated from the same college that Virat and Manvi attended and everyone once in a while they would have reunion parties held at the college, just like today.
Manvi waited until Di finished her breakfast and then followed her outside where Viren Bhaiya was waiting for them in the car. Once both had taken their seats they headed towards the college. Upon reaching it Viren and Jeevika headed for their party and Manvi headed towards her class. She saw Virat and Maya talking by Maya's locker and just like every other day this last week Manvi walked by them as if she'd never known them before. And just like every other time, she felt nothing, her heart didn't hurt, her eyes didn't tear-up, it was as if there were no emotions left within her.
2 hrs later'
Manvi walked towards the cafeteria alone since she had stayed behind in class. As she tried to put her phone back into her purse Manvi accidently dropped her book sighing she bent down to pick it up. When she stood back up she realized some guys were circling around her. Looking at the guy standing in front of her Manvi realized it was Manan, the biggest gangster of the college. For some reason as he walked closer to her now Manvi didn't get scared, she stood completely still. Once he was in front of her he raised a hand nd touched her cheek, even then Manvi felt nothing and stood rooted to her spot.
