Chapter 1: A promise
Jeevika slowly opened her eyes and found herself lying in the hospital bed. She looked around and saw her family surrounding her a look of relief on their faces to see her conscious again. She tried to register surroundings and tried to remember how she ended up in hospital. Instantly her eyes found way to her husbands, as she recalled the events of the past day. She then realized that how she ended up in the hospital? How his lies broke her heart? and how she got hurt by thinking herself responsible for the false distances between them which he created to get his brother near to her beloved sister? She was hurt by his fake fight. She was in the hospital because she ended up meeting with an accident as she was running away from her husbands lies. She looked in his eyes.
His eyes were concerned and full of all the love. "Jeevika tum thik to ho?", Viren asked as soon as he realized that his wife was awake. She just nodded but didn't say anything. "Di" she heard her little sister exclaim and a second later found herself engulfed by her sister in a warm hug. "Di aap thik to ho na?", she asked breaking the hug. "Main thik hu Mannu", she answered smiling lightly at her dear sister. "Please, the patient needs to rest. Only one of you can stay here with her", the nurse announced to all. Everyone left the room except Viren.
Viren gave her a glass of water as she tried to reach for the glass on the table beside her. He helped her sit and drink the water and made her rest again as she was still weak. He didn't say anything to her yet as he knew that she was really upset at him and won't listen to anything he said. So he just took care of her without saying anything. All the while the concern on his face was visible to Jeevika. She mentally smiled as she saw her caring husband, but didn't let it show on her face. She knew that he loves her very much, but she was very upset at him for betraying her trust and didn't talk to him.
All this was observed by Viraat from outside the transparent ward window. He was feeling guilty for the tension between his Bhai and Bhabhi. All the family members were sitting in the waiting area of the hospital, now somewhat relieved that Jeevika was alright. But Viraat stood there outside the door, watching his Bhabhi's silence towards his dear Bhai. He couldn't bear it that because of him they weren't even talking to each other. His guilt was eating him alive. After a while the doctor came and checked Jeevika and assured her well being. Then he went out and Viren followed the doctor to discuss the health of his wife. Jeevika was alone in the room. Viraat wanted to apologize to his Bhabhi for creating all this mess, and wanted to clear all the misunderstandings between his Bhai and Bhabhi no matter what.
Viraat entered the room, Jeevika was sitting on her bed with a magazine in her hand. She looked up at her devar as he sat beside her. "Bhabhi main kuch confess karna chahta hu", he said seriousness and sincerity evident in his voice. Jeevika looked at him with expressionless eyes. If she was upset with her husband, then she was more upset, disappointed and angry with her devar. "Bhabhi jo kuch bhi hua uss me bhai ki koi galti nahi hai. Aap please unse naraz mat hoiye. Yeh sab meri galti hai. Maine hi bhai ko bola tha aapse jhoot moot ka jhagda karne ke liye, taaki Maanvi mujhse baat kare. Bhabhi main janta hu ki mujhse galti hui hai, aur shayad aap mujhe maaf nahi karengi. Aap mujhe jo saza dena chahti hai de dijiye, aap jo bolengi mai vaisa hi karoonga par please bhabhi, bhai ko saza mat dijiye. Isme unki koi galti nahi hai, please unhe maaf kar dijiye.", he said in a low voice looking into his bhabhi's eyes, pleading, like a child asking forgiveness to his mother for his stupid mistake.
"Viraat tum mere devar ho, mere liye chote bhai jaise ho. Mere liye tum me aur Maanvi me koi fark nahi hai. Par jo tumne kiya wo thik nahi kiya. Main janti hu ki isme Virenji ne tumahra saath diya, kyunki wo tumhari khushi chahte hai. Mujhe unse koi shikayat nahi hai Viraat, par mujhe tumse ye ummeed nahi thi. Agar tum Maanvi se sach me pyaar karte Viraat, to jhooth bolkar ye sab naatak nahi karte. Agar tumhara pyaar saccha hota to tumhe yeh sab karne ki jaroorat nahi padti. Jo ho gaya so ho gaya Viraat, par ab tum Mannu se door raho. Main nahi chahti ki use koi bhi takleef ho", Jeevika said looking at her brother in law.
Viraat knew this was coming. After all it was all his fault. He had lost his Bhabhi's trust, by his stupid silly mistake. But he was ready for it. If doing this clears all the misunderstandings between his bhai and bhabhi, then he will do it. No matter how many pieces his heart breaks into, he will do it for his bhabhi. He will do it to regain her trust. He took Jeevika's hand in his, looked into his Bhabhi's eyes with a sadness in his eyes and said, "Thik hai bhabhi, aap jaisa kahengi main vaisa karunga. Par main aapse sirf itna kehna chahta hu bhabhi, ki aapka yeh devar bura nahi hai. Main janta hu ki maine aapka bharosa toda hai, aapko chot pahochayi hai, par mera irada aapko hurt karne ka nahi tha bhabhi. Main kya karta? Wo mere pyaar ki shuruaat thi, aur Maanvi ki wo narazgi mujhse sahi nahi gayi. Main Maanvi ke kareeb rehna chahta tha, uske saath waqt bitana chahta tha, use batana chahta tha ki main usse kitna pyaar karta hu. Par iss sab me main yeh dekh hi nahi paya ki main aap dono ke bich aa raha hu. Please bhabhi ho sake to mujhe maaf kar dijiyega. Main vaada karta hu aapse ki main aapka bharosa fir se jeet lunga. Agar aapko lagta hai, ki mera Maanvi se dur rehna hi uske liye accha hai, to thik hai bhabhi, aisa hi hoga.". His voice cracked as he continued, "I... I promise you Bhabhi, ki main Maanvi se dur rahunga", he said looking into Jeevika's eyes, while the tears threatened to come out of his eyes. He stood up and left from there unable to hold himself any longer.
He walked away from the room with tears in his eyes. 'I don't know how I will do this Maanvi? Staying away from you is not easy for me. But I will do it. I will regain my bhabhi's trust and if this is the way for it, so be it. I will keep my distance from you, but still will always there for you when you need me. I love you Maanvi. And this love is my strength. I know everything will eventually be fine. And now I will only be with you, when my Bhabhi's trust and blessings will be with me', he thought.
Okay. So before all the Jeevika fans who are willing to throw chappals at me😉, please don't be mad at me right now for making her this angry. I don't want to hurt anyone. (She is just trying to protect her sister. And honestly, after all this meyham what would you expect form her). I assure you all, you will love her in the upcoming parts.
