While the torrential rains in the city threw a lot of things off gear people in Mumbai, celebrities were no exception either.
Actress Kanchi Kaul of Ek Ladki Anjani Si shudders as she recounts how she was stranded in a small bungalow in Madh Island for three days. Kanchi had been shooting alone, with a small unit. She was shooting solo since she was required for some scenes by herself (her character 'Anu' in the show has been dead for a while).
"It has been terrible for me," Kanchi wailed. "I had been shooting alone, without any co-star. In fact, there were just a few people on the sets. Although we knew the weather was getting really bad, we could not stop shooting and cause delays. You see, we have no bank episodes." The producers of the show put her and the entire unit up in a cottage and despite the difficulties, Kanchi agreed to shoot non-stop without any fuss.
However, that was not the end of Kanchi's woes. During a shot, the actress accidentally dropped her cellphone in water. "That cut me out completely from the outside world," she says. "I couldn't get in touch with any of my family members or friends. Even the landlines here are all down."
The actress soon began to feel homesick and exasperated at being so cut off from family and friends.
So, what did they do after pack-up? "There wasn't much to do as it was pouring incessantly. So we played cards," she recalls.
Food, of course, was a problem. Kanchi says that all she ate for three whole days was vada pav and tang! "I'm sure by now I must've put on a lot of weight by eating all that junk food, I had no choice," she says.
As of now, Kanchi is desperately waiting for her character, Anu, to reunite with her on-screen family members in the show. "I wish this change happens soon. Till then I feel lost and lonely on the sets, with no co-stars to work with! And of course I'll be very happy when it finally stops raining!" she adds with a laugh.
