Busy weekend and didn't have a chance to comment until now. Unlike many of you, this epi worked big time for me - it had a bit of everything and was taut and well paced. I liked the writing, i thought it set out to do what was intended.
First, it showcased Arnav and his di, cementing his determination to put her above all else and her utter devotion to him. That her first concern is for him ---- not for her husband who is supposedly the love of her life ----shd have given both of them pause to think about how shyam figures in anjali's life!
The second segment was the dreamy trip down memory lane for Arhi, reliving the moments that brought them here, recognizing the love they both feel. In khushi's case the unfinished question of whether Arnav meant to say what she wants to hear. It also reminded us the audience what's at stake here, why we watch and why we should stay invested.
Finally, the dramatic Khushi-Shyam encounter. I agree with Diya that Khushi is completely blindsided by Shyam.She comes in all dreamy about Arnav and is shocked by not only the presence but the unwanted ardor of Shyam, bordering on delusional and completely obsessive. The only other time she's seen this was when he treats her roughly during the sangeet. But now she gets to see that was no aberration ; not only is he obsessive but he is also violent. When he enfolds her in that unwanted hug, there is little she can do. He is violent and creepy --- fighting back even if she was in the mental state to do so would not be smart. Blaming Khushi for not reacting to that hug is like blaming a woman for not resisting her rapist. She was both shocked and physically over matched.
As for Arnav, he was also shell shocked. After the emotional roller coaster with his Di, he is confronted by the sight of her happiness in shreds and at the hands of his one true love. He reacted purely out of amped up emotion. All of it played out true to me. What will be interesting to watch will be how ArHi recompute their thoughts and feelings once they have a chance to cool off and allow reason to enter the picture. This will be particularly important for Arnav.
I think the show's team did a stand up job - the fans are in a tizzy, we can't wait for the next show and the story had moved to the next big phase. A win-win all around :)
