It was Gopi's time to support her husband when he was concerned for his brother. Ahem Needed Gopi by his side and contantly looked at her for support. I like the way that their changing relationship is being shown.

I too was thinking the same thing Nazma as his is set in his ways. Our guess could be correct that he was looking for her as this is the only explanation possible. He did not come down to talk to his mother nor ask for his tea. When he came down he went and stood very close to her.
