And Khush , am glad I finally got to see a long comment from you . And what a comment that is . Its like you got inside my head and saw all the workings of my brain . This is possibly the best compliment I am ever going to get in terms of its honesty and understanding . Thanks so much . Yes , I am always fascinated by characterization and more so that of extremely complex people . AN as you have said in many places are really complex and really unpredictable and nice and annoying and frustrating . I think that got me intrigued too and now that I am writing this FF , I am finding myself hooked to it , almost like being these two . I have never enjoyed writing so much and its thanks to all you amazingly talented people out there that I got this idea in the first place .

It was hard to believe what Varsha had told her. What an irony, all people see is strict, heartless man while all he is sensitive and caring by nature. The search that had started as part of her Modi Revenge mission had ended here in the hospital with the story so unbelievable. Revenge lost; all that had left was desire to help him some way. There was also fact that she had gone behind his back and done all this digging. If at all he comes to know, it would be her last day. And moreover it was delicate matter and she didn't know if she was ready. Was he ready to share this with anyone? Off course not! Otherwise how do you justify his behavior? And even if he was ready, she was the last person he would share anything with. They weren't even friends and now knowing all about him, that bothered her.

As she turned in her bed now nth time this night, all she could think was Abhimanyu. There was not even a tinge of sleep in her eyes. She is his fiance. The words kept echoing in her ears, the whole story flashing through her eyes as if she was right there as all that happened.

It was only when Varsha had dragged her into the nearby conference room; Niki had realized what she was seeing, where she was and what she had come for. Varsha was rubbing her shoulders to calm her down.

Who is she?

I knew it. You don't know anything about Abhimanyu' I mean Dr. Modi's past. Right?

She just stood there staring at her.

She is his fiance.

What? Fiance?

Even if Varsha didn't, atleast she knew she wasn't his girlfriend. Then why was it so hard to believe? It was a little painful too. Was it because that girl was in hospital? Was it because she had seen him cry? Why did it bother her?

Niki, Sit down.

Once again her long running thoughts were put to freeze by Varsha. A little perplexed, she just took a nearby chair and looked up at Varsha.

I am not sure where you guys are in relationship, but wherever you are he definitely should have told you about this. Especially given that he comes here every day.

Niki had no answer to her. How was she going to tell her that there was nothing between them and she just wanted to know about him for taking revenge? She didn't feel right about her doings then, but she had comforted herself that it was fair that she gets to know this information so she can plan something against him. How was she supposed to know that the matter can be so delicate, so personal that she would feel disgusted in herself? What is she going to tell Varsha?

Varsha was seeing Niki lost in thoughts and panic on her face was evident. Deciding to put all the suspense to rest she shook Niki's arm a bit.

It's ok Niki; I will tell you whatever I know right away. I believe you have right to know.

Niki just stared at her.

The patient he was with, Anintika Seth, they were very close. It seems they had met when they were in medical school together. I have a colleague who is from her batch too, he told me this. Anintika, a cute bubbly girl from upper middle class pursuing her MBBS, a beauty with brain was everyone's dream. He said that she was so friendly that she could mingle with everyone, she charmed all her classmates, seniors and some of the professors weren't far behind either.

He was her senior, I think one year or may be two. So their paths didn't collide until her second year. They were pitched together for a project. They had to go to different government hospitals with their professor. I think they had gone to couple of camps too. That is when they got closer to each other. But it was only during Abhimanyu's farewell party that they had announced to be couple. Everybody by now had guessed but they had never admitted it till then.

After schooling they had started working at Gangaram, Delhi. I am sorry; I couldn't get more details there as my colleague who was Anintika's classmate joined here. I also don't know when they had got engaged but they were supposed to be getting married last February. But that didn't happen.

Varsha looked at Niki, she couldn't read her. She didn't know how she was taking all this but she had to tell her everything so she just continued.

They got into a terrible accident when they were here on vacation. It was almost a year back. There was a truck that came and crashed into their car. The driver was drunk and ran into their car with quite a speed, there was huge impact. Abhimanyu was driving the car, the airbag opened and he got injured only on his elbow. It was fractured and there were some more bruises on his face because of the airbag impact. But it was Anintika who got severely injured. They didn't have passenger seat airbag in their car. So her head hit on the dashboard real bad. Sad part was they couldn't contact anyone for long time. The cellphones they were carrying were tossed out and weren't picking up signal after the damage. It was almost 30 minutes later the passer by car stopped and called up ambulance.

Abhimanyu's bruises were superficial and healed in few weeks. His elbow fracture healed too. But it was Anintika who that night went into coma. She had lost too much of blood and the head injury was critical. Just looking at her condition when she was brought in the hospital, everyone almost knew that the case was difficult. In fact most people thought she wouldn't survive at all but instead she went in coma. She hasn't woken up since then and doctors don't think there is any possibility either.

Since last couple of months she is deteriorating even further, first it was her kidney failure and now her toes have gone numb. You know, doctors had suggested that they take her life support when her kidney failed. But Abhimanyu wasn't ready. He insisted on putting her on dialysis.

Varsha paused for a minute.

Is there any chance? I mean would she wake up?

This was first time Niki was talking to her and the shock was evident in her voice. Niki had so many times thought about Abhimanyu's past and making him pay but it had never ever crossed her it could be so painful.

Chances are almost none. You are doctor too. Didn't you see her when you were by her room? Even normal person can predict that it's too late. She is already gone, Niki. But Abhimanyu is not ready to accept it and move ahead. He is not letting her go. But right now she is slipping away real fast. They think it may be a month or two more.

You know when Abhimanyu got better the Bombay hospital offered him job here as thoracic surgeon but he refused. The doctors treating him strongly believed that he wasn't coping up well with the accident and above all Anintika's injury. They had suggested him to go to the therapy sessions too. He went there for just a session but it seems he never went back. It was only 7-8 months back he joined Sanjivani that too as Administrator and not the doctor or surgeon. We all know its Anintika and the accident that is bothering him but we don't know why he wouldn't get back to surgery.

Varsha saw Niki getting up from chair all shocked and shaken up. She wasn't sure if she should give her some time and space to digest all this information or she should say something. She stood there and just waited for Niki to say something.

Niki just walked up to the door and walked away just after telling Varsha how grateful she was to bring her this information. She had then walked back to the room Anintika was in. Abhimanyu was still sitting right by her side. Who was this person? She couldn't believe the Dr. Modi who usually brought tears to others eyes was actually in such a huge pain. She had stayed right outside room for few more minutes and drove home back all lost in Abhimanyu and Anintika's thoughts.
