The clouds were glowing with an orange hue. A cool breeze gently flowed rustling the dry leaves fallen on the ground. The evening was pleasant. The grass was green and inviting in all its glory. The huge mahogany trees lining the pathway added to the splendor of the well-maintained park.

He was walking beside me, hands casually tucked in his pockets.

I waited for him to speak. We were silently walking along.

The park was crowded with assortment of different people. Children were playing with their parents keeping an eye on them. Their melodious laughter tinkling in the air. Couples enjoyed the privacy the shades the huge trees around provided. Some were walking their pets about. I wondered what I was doing here with him.

"You see over there!" He pointed ahead.

A couple was kissing cuddled underneath the birch tree.

Maybe my brain was right. I was wrong to accompany him here. They were frenching out. Gross.

"You can see how he never stops trying."

They were wagging their tongues together. Enough of the madness. I was not here to see a couple make-out. I felt like throwing up.

"Mayank you have lost it completely! That's gross!!"

"What's gross in it? It's you who are mad! They share such a beautiful relationship- a child and his father."

"What?"

"Get an eye-check done, Saxena. Can't you see them there?"

I followed his gaze this time. A beautiful chubby toddler was learning to walk with his father's help. His tiny fingers holding his father's huge hand for support.

"Ermm...I can see them now."

"What were you talking about then?"

"I...well ...you see...nothing...actually..."I fumbled to hide my embarrassment. Good he didn't pursue the matter further.

"You see how happy the child is with him. Free of any stress. He is inside his bubble of goodness and innocence."

I observed the child's carefree laughter. His pink lips pouting and his eyes gleaming with amazement as he saw the butterflies around him. Trying to catch them, feel those tiny winged creatures in his soft hands but falling down as he tried. His dad supporting him whenever he fell. He was totally focused on his goal to catch the purple butterfly not worrying his limit that he was still learning to walk. Always sure of his dad's unconditional support.

I wondered where the purity and innocence gets lost as we transcend from childhood into the world of adults. Why we loose the strings that pull our hearts? Why we allow selfish thoughts to enter it? Why we become wary of allowing anyone near it? Why we simply can't trust anyone without a doubt anymore?

"You see them so happy unaware of their surroundings? Totally lost in the moment they are together." He continued.

Uh-huh. I nodded my head.

"Think next what's bothering you so much today."

I closed my eyes. The despair I felt was back chaining my wrists and feet. Pulling me down. A lot of hard work had gone before I could receive a joining letter to do internship at this prestigious Chestshire Hospital. My parents had sacrificed so much to support me till I reach here. And I can't let it go because of him. Morgan was a pervert; I discovered his true colors in the meeting today. In directly he pressed for sexual favors from me in exchange of marks for the assignment. My entire self revolted. It was just so hard to continue my internship under that bas***d. Can I complain to the management without any proof? Would they believe me or else now that I have refused he was going to fail me. How can I fight him back? I want to but it hurt that he broke the trust. To think I had so much respect for him once.

"How can you trust anyone in this world?"

"You don't."

"So you mean to say you don't trust anyone in this world?"

"Nupur, it does not matter you trust. Anyone can stab you in the back. What really matters is do you trust yourself enough?"

"But fighting everyone wrong is just not easy."

"Who says it is easy? See the child there. He tries to walk but falls. Yet he never stops trying. You just need to trust yourself to walk."

"Your words make sense to me."

"Intelligent guys always make sense."

"Wow..what are you doing whiling your time away? You should become like some art-of-living guru. Trust me you'll have a massive following."

"My wisdom is exclusive for pretty girls only."

"You can't change. "I punched him playfully on his shoulder.

"Easy kung-fu champion...You can tell me what's troubling you."

"You never told me what you were doing in the hospital that day?"

"Some family problem."

"Some work problem."

"You are impossible, Saxena." He grinned.

"Just learning the ropes from you."

"The teacher deserves some reward."

"What ya want?"

"Whatever you desire from me."

"And that is?"

"A kiss", he winked.

I laughed," that day I was just setting you with Isabelle. Sorry for all that."

"Don't be. Atleast I got a chance to know your desire."

"Mayank!"

"Fine. Anyways hope you are feeling lighter now."

"Yes. I do. Thank you."

"Hey common'.No thanks in friendship."

"Friends. I haven't yet made up my mind on that. "I pretended to think hard.

"I know your mind will agree to it."

"Lets hope so far your sake. Anyways the sun has set. It's getting late. I need to go. Bye."

"Nupur , wait up!"

I turned back to face him again. He was handing out to me a gorgeous pink orchid.

"Didn't you read the notice board there? It states no one is allowed to pluck flowers." I crossed my arm.

"Miss all-strict rules, there is nothing mentioned for an already fallen flower on the ground. I just picked it up to hand it over to another flower. Now stop ogling at me and take it."

He had a slight smile on his lips. What was wrong with a harmless flower? I accepted it.

"Beautiful."

"Huh?"

"Your smile. It's beautiful."

"Mayank I am getting late."

"I m serious. Your smile curves through your lips enhancing your hollow cheekbone and reaches upto your eyes . Which by the way twinkles when the smile is straight from the heart."

"Ummm..."

"And your cheeks go rosy next. The smile should be on your face more often."

"Good- bye Mayank!!"

A mirror image of me reflected the white foamy teeth.

Your smile. It's beautiful.

I was non-stop smiling brushing my teeth that night.

reaches upto your eyes . Which by the way twinkles when the smile is straight from the heart.

I can't see the twinkle. Maybe I need to switch on the side-lights too.
