She helps the women, arrange lunch in the living room. Her Aada had told her that Shaan could eat in her room. She thought it was great idea considering how much he liked Gujarati food.

There was so much food it was not funny

There was three kinds of subzis a dal a karhi, masala pooris, and rice and three kinds of sweets.

Khanak was starving, she served herself a "sneaky plateful" and gorged in the kitchen, Fa's cousin's wife gave her a strange look, but didn't say much thanks to the PSP.

Bai was at her wits end trying to make sure everything was well done. She even brought out Aada's silver plate given to him by Bai's family with half a dozen silver bowls.

She argued with Ada that Shaan must first be invited to eat downstairs and HE should make a choice where he wanted to eat.

Khanak had already checked the clock on the courtyard wall twice, in the 15 minutes, she was sure he would appear to fetch her. She was also sure the relatives would die of shock.

She stops at the top of the stairs and breathes in and out a couple times and relaxes her body, and walks into the room ever so casually.

He sees her walk in, she acts like she needs to get something out of the Godrej, reaches for the calendar, the nail has a set of keys hanging from it, she opens the door, and smiles
