My all time favourite spiritual song. Again have given the meaning behind the song.

aguner poroshmani chowao praney.
(ey jibon punyo koro)3

ey jibon punyo koro dohon-daney.
aguner poroshmani chowao praney.

Touch my heart with thy purifying fire

Fulfill my life

Fulfill my life as an offering to thee

Touch my heart with thy purifying fire

amar ei dehokhani tuley dhoro,
tomar oi debaloyer prodip koro
(nishidin alok-shikha joluk ganey.)2
aguner poroshmani chowao praney.

Lift my body with thy holy hand

Make me a lamp in thy temple

And let all my songs come out of its flame

Touch my heart with thy purifying fire

(andharer gayey gayey porosh tobo
shara raat photak tara nobo nobo.)2
noyoner drishti hotey guchbey kalo,
jekhaney podbey shethay dekhbey alo
(byatha mor uthbey jwoley urdhwo paney)2.

When there is darkness may I always feel thy presence

Let my mind ever twinkle like the stars in the night sky

Wherever is thy presence, there is light

My pain, my darknes,s my sadness would burn in thy holy flame

Touch my heart with thy purifying fire

aguner poroshmani chowao praney.
(ey jibon punyo koro)3

ey jibon punyo koro dohon-daney.
aguner poroshmani chowao praney.

Touch my heart with thy purifying fire

Fulfill my life

Fulfill my life as an offering to thee

Touch my heart with thy purifying fire

Devika for u from Tagore collection of poems as u started this lovely thread

The First Jasmines

by Rabindranath Tagore

Contributed by: Vijendran Rao

(This poem is from 'The Crescent Moon' by Tagore)

AH, these jasmines, these white jasmines!
I seem to remember the first day when I filled my hands
with these jasmines, these white jasmines.

I have loved the sunlight, the sky and the green earth;
I have heard the liquid murmur of the river
through the darkness of midnight;
Autumn sunsets have come to me at the bend of the road
in the lonely waste, like a bride raising her veil
to accept her lover.
Yet my memory is still sweet with the first white jasmines
that I held in my hands when I was a child.

Many a glad day has come in my life,
and I have laughed with merrymakers on festival nights.

On grey mornings of rain
I have crooned many an idle song.

I have worn round my neck the evening wreath of
BAKULAS woven by the hand of love.

Yet my heart is sweet with the memory of the first fresh jasmines
that filled my hands when I was a child.

The Gift

by Rabindranath Tagore

Contributed by: Vijendran Rao

(This poem is from 'The Crescent Moon' by Tagore)

I want to give you something, my child,
for we are drifting in the stream of the world.
Our lives will be carried apart,
and our love forgotten.
But I am not so foolish as to hope that
I could buy your heart with my gifts.

Young is your life, your path long, and
you drink the love we bring you at one draught
and turn and run away from us.
You have your play and your playmates.
What harm is there if you have no time
or thought for us.

We, indeed, have leisure enough in old age
to count the days that are past,
to cherish in our hearts what our
hands have lost for ever.
The river runs swift with a song,
breaking through all barriers.
But the mountain stays and remembers,
and follows her with his love.

tarongo milae jae tarongo uthe,

kusumo jhoria pare kusumo phute.

nahi khay, nahi shesh, nahi nahi doinnolesho

shei purnotar paye monsthano mage.

Waves disappear and waves appear

Flowers shed and fall and buds reappear.

Things never erode, never ends, never ever depletes

Into that completeness, a place my mind desires.

ache dukkho, ache mrittu, birahadahan lage

tobuo shanti, tobu anaondo, tobu anonto jage.

ache dukkho, ache mrittu

tobu prano nittodhara, hashe shurjo chandro tara,

bashonto nikunje ashe bichitro rage.

Grief exists, death exists, separations sear

Still peace and joy, and happiness sparks

Grief exists, death exists, separations sear

Still life eternally flows - the sun, the moon and stars smile

In strange patterns spring appears.

ache dukkho, ache mrittu, birahadahan lage

tobuo shanti, tobu anaondo, tobu anonto jage

ache dukkho, ache mrittu, birahadahan lage

Grief exists, death exists, separations sear

Still peace and joy, and happiness sparks in us

Grief exists, death exists, separations sear

He nutan, dekha dik aar bar janmero prothomo shubhakkhan.
Tomaro prokash houk, kuhelikar kori udghatan, shurjeri motan.
Riktotar bokkho-bhedi aaponare koro unmochan.
Bykto houk jeeboner joy, Bykto houk tuma majhe asimer chiro bisshay.
Uday digante shankha banje, Mor chitto majhe.
Chiro nutoner dilo daak, panchishe baishakh.

" Salutions to the new one, whom we may see again on the auspicious occasion of its birth

Let your presence be felt, in the early morning like the appearance of sun

Break the shackles of bitterness and let yourself rise.

Let the joy of life be fulfilled, let doubts be cleared

The sound of conch shell floats in the winds and in my heart

The forever new one has made its call, on the 25th of Baisakh"

Thanks Misti for the Bengali words and the English Translation---

I just loved the song----I kind of got the jist---but each sentence and the meaning is so much more beautiful----
