i can't understand

there's something i can't understand. when the cid went to romeo's place, they found newspapers with jassi's picture on the front page circled in red. later when they questioned him, he said that he'd never meant to shoot jassi, it was indira bhargav who was his target. then why were those newspapers in his house in the first place? guess it didn't occur to the cid officials to ask him that!
