She picked her bag and waved to her office mate Ria a bye as she went off. It was 4:00 pm time for her best companion, coffee. She took her favorite like everyday and no one to question why you always prefer the same! , headed back to her car, ignoring the various eyes towards her. She lived about 10 kms away from city, that was long but she since wanted silence more than people in vicinity so it was the best. All along the way to home she observed various new scenes everyday. She took her time and enjoyed on her way back, draining her mind of office anxieties that was her way of relaxing and no one was there to question why it is like that?
After all she was single again and happy to follow her mind finally she was home, a silent cottage waiting for her to come. She went in and looked at the big clock it was 5:30, a smile appeared on her face, she was glad to know there was no one to question why you are so late today? She quietly went in and kept her bag and files at a nearby table. Whole room was filled with an evening drowning sun-like light she sat on couch to watch something but fell asleep soon.
He came in silently kept his bag beside hers.
He came to her and placed his arm around her warmly as he sat next to her; he dipped himself in her hair and caressed her jaw and cheek with the other hand. He brushed past her hair and kissed gently on her neck. He came back to her cheek and placed a gentle kiss... waiting for her to respond. Suddenly the doorbell rang and she woke up swiftly... looking all around and then at the table which had just her bag and her files... her heartbeat racing...
Finally she stood up and sipped from a glass of water nearby and answered the door... Mrs. Sharma smiling at her recalled that the other day you came and shared your delicious halwa so it is to return your bowl back...handed her a bowl of paneer delicacy, she smiled "thanks!, please come inside"
"No, some other day I'm in a hurry... we're going out for a family dinner, Mr. Sharma planned something good, I believe..."
"Oh, Okay fine then thanks again for this"
She came in thinking "how sweet" the gesture was. she went to kitchen and made some chapattis for herself ... and came back to the couch with her dinner plate, today something was strange, odd somewhere she was not liking it today her routine was not going well... she looked at her plate and there was no one to share the lovely paneer, no one to ask her how was your day or to give her a shoulder to set her heavy workload on with... first time in four years she was not liking her being single...she closed her eyes and leaned back on couch...
Five and a half years back she met a guy down the coffee shop on whom she spilled her cold coffee that day...
"Ah! Thank god it was not hot otherwise I would have been burned" he reacted in an opposite way than she thought...
Avni helped him with new clothes and he looked even more handsome in that white shirt... she bought him... "Thanks! But it is not required" sameer said as she was about to pay...
"No please let me..."
She folded his other shirt in a separate bag and dropped it in her bag...
"Hey! That's mine" he again reciprocated in the same tone
"But the fault's mine" she smiled back
They went to a far off table and sat facing each other
"So! How are you miss.____" he asked
"Avni!"
"Nice name! Hello myself Sameer"
"M good and you"
"Great"
Suddenly his phone rang and after answering it he took a leave...
"So I guess I got to go Avni, we will keep meeting" and left her with his number and a small hug...
that was there first meeting and then after half a year of dating with the consent of their families they married each other and shifted to a new city and worked with their wishes and followed their ambitions...
How happily married they were...smiling hand-in-hand as they walked down the street Sunday morning many would feel jealous of their love and happiness towards each other...
Until one day sameer felt Avni was not giving much time to their relationship due to her long hours of work... that Saturday night they discussed but soon it turned into a fight and they parted their ways... since last four years being in the same city they haven't met till now.
He knew her schedule and never crossed her way while she knew him well and never came in his way... somewhere they still cared for each other and didn't want each other to be sad with old memories since they have moved on...
she didn't noticed but she slept whole night on the couch only... out of sudden she felt like going for a walk... it was silence at six in the morning it was early as she slept at unusual eight at night and woke up early at 5 am... bathed and came out for a walk in black... she was walking aimlessly with her head down and music playing slowly in her.. Suddenly she collapsed with someone who was probably walking in his own thoughts or maybe just like her...
She was on a deserted road and suddenly she lifted her eyes to look at him... tears flow down her cheeks
She without confirming whether it was dream or reality hugged him tight... tears flow down his cheeks too...
"I'm sorry!" he said
She looked at him
"I'm sorry you have to wait 4 years for this"
Springing up, he clasped her close and kissed away her tears as he exclaimed, "No more"
"You were so different from what I expected that I began loving you before I knew it" she said
"That you couldn't abide me personally. So I tried to keep out of your way" he started...
"I found out at last that I had fallen in love with YOU. Now you know all."
"You feel better now, don't you?" he asked
"Yes" she breathed softly
They continued walking home lovingly.
"Well, home awaits you, Avni. You're boss now, sure enough."
She drew him to the porch, and together they looked upon the June landscape...There never was a man so in love with his wife...
