Most people In India know her for cashing on by spreading slander against her ex-boyfriend Pak cricketer Asif well-assisted from sensationalist Indian news media. Not many people knew even in the first weeks of Bigg Boss that she is a B grade film actress cum model.
What I've found about her background her is that she has always been controversial. Going back to 2005, she was cut from the promotions of the movie Yeh Dil Aapka Huwa by its producer and director Javed Sheikh[ has also acted in several Indian movies], in which she had a crucial supporting role. Her claim to fame came thru a Geo TV show that satirized political and showbiz personalities, in which she became popular for mud-slinging on her showbiz colleagues as well as politicians thru mimicry and related spoofs.
In 2007, her much publicised Punjabi film Mohabbatan Sachiyaan bombed on the box office, and movies following this disaster went much unnoticed. She was reportedly engaged to actor Babrak Shah, previously she bragged about it openly[about her boyfriend] on a morning TV show. Later reports surfaced about her relationship than secret marriage in London with Pak cricketer Asif, which was denied by her. In 2009, when Asif [got engaged] made his comeback in Pak team after serving a ban of 2 years. She accused Asif of owing millions of rupees in debt, that Asif had failed to return to her. She started a media campaign and also filed a libel suit against him. The unwanted controversy made the channel GEO end her contract with the TV show for which she is more or less known in the country. After a common friend intervened, this drama was finally brought to an end. Recently, arranged by her family Veena Malik also got engaged with a Pakistani-American Faisal Akbar, here posing with her fiance;

Her fathers' version being she would be married soon whereas Veena disputed this and said there is no plan for marriage anytime soon.
After losing the important gig with GEO TV show she had almost disappeared from the scene, until the spotfixing allegations re-emerged. She now widely known as a publicity hound began to appear in talk shows accusing Asif of matchfixing and knowing his alleged contacts with Indian and other bookmakers. Indian news channels are said to have paid thousands of dollars to Veena Malik to appear on their shows. She also clashed with actress Neetu Chandra for once seeing Neetu Chandra's phone no. on Asif's cellphone[which Neetu Chandra denied that, she never knew Asif]. Neetu Chandra was also offered Bigg Boss but she refused and signed a TAmil film instead. Veena Malik is known for doing publicity stunts and is regarded as a major beneficiary of the spotfixing revelations. Major Pak fashion designers have stayed away from her but she has done some modelling assignments and has appeared in few flop movies and a TV show.
