Hey all of you - stop treating plagiarism as though its no big deal.

I work at The Writing Center at my university, as most of you know. I had a student who I caught plagiarizing from online sources. I told him I'd found out and if he does it again, I'll have to report him. I gave him a long lecture about all these things, he said he'd stop. And begged me to not take action. I gave him a chance. This guy was desi actually, he was supposed to graduate this past summer, but needed to finish a tutorial with us before he got his degree. Anyways, later he sent me another draft of his paper and I took a look at it and thought it was really good. I submitted it this time, overlooking plagiarism since I figured no one would be stupid enough to do this a second time. I didn't catch him, but my supervisor did. They are going to ruin this kid's career. He screwed himself over for a three page paper that he was close to being done with. They're going to expel him from the university and stop his graduation. I think that's the worse thing he could've done to himself. What a totally stupid way to screw yourself over, and yet, I still can't stop but feel sorry for this guy!
