why is communism wrong?

hey friends, im about to post something that is very close to my heart............ive alwyas pondered over this......how come communism as a philosophy or state structure, NEVER BEEN SUCCESFUL or able to survive anywhere for long.........maybe except for cuba..........the whole world was witness to the downfall of the USSR......china has virtually turned into a "red capitalist" nation where all of communism is abandoned except for the totalitarian aspect?

I do like China's current modified Socialism with free market. I guess a balance is the best. Too much democracy is nothing but trouble as everyone wants to do things their own way and as a result there is no progress. Communism in itself although it has good intentions does not work well as there is no fair rewards to those that contribute more then the rest. What system is best will depend on the country, the population, the people , the literacy rate , the resources etc.

The concept of the original communism(Marxism) is good because it relates to the economy and says that all the people will have an equal income. However, the other concepts(Leninism, Stalinism, Maoism etc) abolished these that instead of a government, there will be 1 supreme leader whose viewpoints will be glorified, whether you like it or not. You cannot protest against the "government" and there is no freedom of press or speech. Again, the "government" control all aspects of your life and sucks all the riches from the people for himself. Why would you want to live under such restrictions?

The question should not be if communism is wrong. Any concept nation that strives for socioeconomic equality of all its citizens cannot be conceptually wrong or immoral. The real question to ask would be, is communism practical and sustainable.

The answer is a big resounding no. Leaving aside that communism model is built on a perfect market assumption, there are many holes in human nature that simply do not conform to basic human nature. Communism tries to force everyone to be equitable, have everyone be economically equitable and have equitable lifestyle. The problem is people are not equal and do not want equal things.

Some people are satisfied with bare minimum, some people have a drive for more. The Communism model, forces people to have more or less than what they want and takes away their freedom to seek their own personal equilibrium. In a free market economy a person who wants more will work extra hours, take riskier high pay jobs to get what they want, while a person who is content with simplicity takes a steady income simple job.

Mind you though the free market is also a perfect market assumption that demand and supply will set fair equilibrium. It does not work that way. The world is not perfect. Without regulation any free market can turn to chaos and the big fish can unfairly devour the little fish without any fair play or fair competition.

Many people make the mistake of equating socialism with communism or leftism. However, socialism is different. It is based on the simple model that humans are social and a collective society does certain things to sustain itself. Scandinavian nations illustrate the success of a nation that can reasonably balance free market with certain concepts of socialism.

Scandinavian nations are small in size and rich, everyone is educated and are broad minded. Scandinavian model cannot be the solution for all nations. And the big fishes wont entertain nordic model..! We need something new. And it shouldint be just economics. Something wider..

Role of nation states is diminishing and TNCs are becoming stronger. Third World governments serve the interests of IMF, WTO and World Bank controlled by developed world.
Huge walls seperating the elite from the rest are rising everywhere. Rich only zones..
Food insecurity is getting worse. About 850 million people go to bed hungry every night.

Some day despair will turn into violence. With nothing left to lose, people will react with boundless fury.

Not all countries can run on Scandinavian model, that is true. Each country is different socially, economically and culturally and has to find its own balance and sustenance. A mining nation cannot have the same economy as a agricultural nation or service nation. What the Scandinavian model does provide is a benchmark and inspiration - that free market and socialism can be combined for a win win situation. That a government can use taxation wisely in such a way that the nation is happy. It also goes to show that bigger, badder, rapidly growing economies are not always the best thing. Sometimes the slow steady economy has the happiest citizens.

Communism is a very good concept. But the way the communist government's have interpreted it, it is turning out to be profitable for them, but harmful to the people. That's why communism TODAY is wrong, otherwise it is a very commendable concept.

@ RTH: Nordic economic model ued to be good in 1970s. It has been experiencing significant downfall after 1990s and is still falling. Wonder what you see lucrative there.
