Not to rehash the old arguments or anything but here are a couple of things that need to be said about the "reacting" of Kurbaan. Lets see...I think lets suppose, and I think they are, Taran and Massand are the two critics who are looked upon for reviews. Lets even not take into consideration that Taran's reviews for me are half the time bullcrap. Because we are talking critics here and they are the ones who are widely known.
Kurbaan
Massand gives Kurbaan 3/5 and calls it a "compelling thriller." "Stripped to its bone, Rensil D'silva's Kurbaan is an edge-of-the-seat thriller that seldom loses its grip on your attention. Credible performances from its leads, and a nail-biting screenplay make up for the plot holes that threaten to eat into this otherwise engaging film."
Taran's take on Kurbaan.
The great-esteemed Taran gives it 4/5. "On the whole, KURBAAN is the most powerful film to come out of the Hindi film industry in 2009, so far. The film has a captivating plot, gripping screenplay, super performances and a climax that shakes you up completely. "
New York
Massand gives the movie 2/5 and says "New York not convincing." But that has nothing to do with nominations or anything. According to him, " Irrfan Khan – easily the film's biggest strength – is often saddled with patronising sermons, including one particularly ill-timed one in the film's closing scene." So why are we not outraged for Irrfan who is undoubtedly an amazing actor and apparently the "strength" of the movie. Also, "it's evenly 'commercialised' with all the trappings of a typical Bollywood potboiler. In the end, the only bits that engage are the early campus scenes where all three actors are only required to play versions of themselves." Another good point. "rk. But watch the excellent Pakistani film Khuda Kay Liye to see how a terrific script and convincing performances can go a long way in telling a similar story. This film, unfortunately, lacks both."
Taran gives the movie 4/5. And to be fair he does say " Katrina proves that she can deliver if the director and writer offer her a role of substance. She's outstanding. In fact, people will see a new, different Katrina this time. Irrfan is, as always, first-rate."
But then this is the same fellow who thought Rang de Basanti was a 2.5/5 and seems to give any Dharma Production/Yash Production raving reviews. Oh and since Kurbaan comes under Dharma we can discount it. But I don't think Rajeev Masand can be discounted. This hue cry about "THIS IS HER BEST ACTING EVER!" Nominations shouldn't be given to an actress because that was her best role but it should be compared to the film industry. I do agree that Deepika shouldn't be nominated there as well because the same logic which applies to Katrina applies to Deepika. Someone said Priyanka only had a minute role and why is she being nominated? Which is actually a compliment to Priyanka that in the short screen time she stole the show far more than Katrina Kaif did.
This hue and cry about repeating past offenses about how Katrina wasn't nominated for Namastey London then I ask was it fair when Preity won over Urmila and Rani over Vidya.
Music wise...nominations are simply crap. Twist over any of Delhi6 compositions? Are you kidding me?
Actors who should have been nominated but are not: Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar.
Koko should have been nominated for Luck by Chance not Wake Up Sid.
