Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is a upcoming 2009 Bollywood romantic comedy film written and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Upen Patel in lead roles with Salman Khan in a special appearance.

Raj Kumar Santoshi's Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani soon

Raj Kumar Santoshi will be back after what seems like a long hiatus, with Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani starring Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor.

The movie, which is in post-production right now, will be released in August 2009. Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani also stars Upen Patel, Darshan Jariwala, Govind Namdeo, Smita Jaykar, Navneet Nishan, Zakir Hussain, Jagdeep, and Salman Khan in a guest appearance.

Raj Kumar Santoshi has described the movie as a light romantic comedy. He has co-written the movie with R.D. Tailang.

A light rom com from Santoshi should be good. Andaz Apna Apna, which he directed in 1994, was a hilarious comedy and, probably, one of his best movies. Santoshi has a caustic wit that shines through even in his most serious movies.

Though he is known to pick socially relevant subjects, Raj Kumar Santoshi has never been able to do complete justice to them.

Admittedly, his movies and very honest and have strong moral and social messages, be it Damini (which was very very pretty good) or Lajja.

But, he ends up diluting the movies with the usual song-and-dance routines or simply getting carried away with the dramatic potential. As a result, his movies end up having a dated feel, despite tight screenplays.

His last movie Halla Bol that was released in 2008 was a total disaster.

Santoshi usually works with the same actors, be it Sunny Deol or Ajay Devgan.

Working with a young turk like Ranbir Kapoor is a first for him.

Perhaps, with Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani he will reinvent himself in other ways as well. All he has to do is cut the drama, and he will be home safe and dry.

Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani will be Ranbir Kapoor's third film. His first Saawariya was a washout but his second Bachna Ae Haseeno was a hit.

Ranbir Kapoor will also be seen in Wake Up Sid (2009), with Konkona Sen Sharma, and Prakash Jha's Rajniti (2010).

Katrina Kaif is now an A-list actress despite her poor histrionic abilities, with back-to-back hits, like Namastey London, Partner, Welcome, Race, and Singh is Kinng, to her credit.

She will appear in Blue and New York, in 2009, and in Rajniti in 2010.

"Ajab Prem..." under fire

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif's new flick 'Ajab Prem ki Gajab Kahani' has already gone viral – spicy titbits from the sets have already leaked to gossip mongers.

Reportedly it wasn't exactly a cakewalk on the shoot of Ajab Prem ki Gajab Kahani, Katrina and Ranbir who initially bonded quite well apparently had a bitter fallout halfway through filming. The situation is so glum that he duo now even refuse to dub together for scenes. Ranbir and Katrina were to do two more films for the same banner, but it goes out the window as both have reportedly ditched the plans, preferring to opt for other films.

Sources revealed that it was the unnecessary gossip by tabloids and the film crew about the nature of their friendship, and that slander turned into malice. After numerous accusations of Ranbir and Katrina being unfaithful to Deepika and Sallu respectively, the duo simply parted ways to avoid further misery.

According to our sources, Salman Khan didn't find it funny when his girlfriend Katrina spent hours on end talking to Ranbir on and off the sets. The film's director, the legendary Rajkumar Santoshi is having a tough time coping with the torturious shoot, tackling with his leads' egos. not dubbing together. I really would have loved to see them dub together as there were scenes that needed them to be together. I can't say anything on whether they are on talking terms or not. They are thorough professionals. Katrina and Ranbir have been on time for the dubbing sessions even if they are not doing it together."

Ranbir's character in Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahaani

After Bachna Ae Haseeno, Ranbir Kapoor is now shooting for Raj Kumar Santoshi's Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani.

In this film Ranbir plays the depressed lover-boy hopelessly in love with the idea of being in love. It's said that his character in this film is inspired by the one played by his grandfather Raj Kapoor in Mera Naam Joker and Charlie Chaplin in City Lights.

A source reveals, "He plays Prem an innocent guy and yes in this film Ranbir will play two distinct characters similar to Charlie Chaplin and Raj Kapoor. His character will be in sync with modern times. He is very excited to do this role as he wants to revive his grandfather's humour and loves his whole style. It's been almost 4 months that he has been shooting for this film."

Adds the source, "For this role, he went through his grandfather's past films like Shri 420, Mera Naam Joker and many others. For this role his mother and dad helped him a lot. Almost 25% of the film is complete and he is working very hard for it."

The music of film is being given by Pritam while Katrina Kaif plays his premika. The film is expected to release in mid 2009.

About City Lights

City Lights is a 1931 English language film written by, directed by and starring Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin also composed the musical score which comprised the majority of the film's sound, since there is no dialogue in the picture.

Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani

For the very first time Bollywood Queen Katrina Kaif and the hot and happening Ranbir Kapoor are coming together for Rajkumar Santoshi's directorial venture 'Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani'. Katrina Kaif recently got hit on the face by Ranbir Kapoor, of course unintentionally.

Kat was shooting with Ranbir on the sets of the movie in Madh Island where the duo were acting out a chase sequence where they were hounded by goons. The scene demanded Ranbir to turn around and hit one of the chasing goons. He did that but in the bargain hit Katrinas's nose with his hand and the actress ended up with a bleeding nose. She was immediately given a first aid on the sets.

The actress was in great pain but realized that but it was unintentional, so she didn't complain. Injured Kat confirmed the incident. Ranbir plays Prem, an innocent guy in the film and he will play two distinct characters in the movie similar to Charlie Chaplin and Raj Kapoor.

The film is gonna hit the box office soon this year.
