This one shot has been specifically written with Shifali in mind! 😊 She wanted a tragic one shot and apparently the "Dhoka" one wasn't sad enough and she wanted me to kill someone...which sadly I can not do! 😳 So here's my gift to her! 😃
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
She sat there on her window seat, waiting for her husband to come home. Her hands traced patterns on the window watching the rain fall down in long flowy lines. She didn't know what went wrong between them or even when. They used to be a happy couple that smiled and teased each other but now—it was different. Her initial fears of being with him were finally coming true.
Raindrops, Fall From, Everywhere
I Reach Out, For You, But You're Not There
He was bored of her, she concluded. He was Mr. Prem Juneja, a huge business man; she was Miss. Shifali Gupta a small time designer and when they had met—sparks flew. Prem had instantly proposed to her and she had declined first because of the situation. They had just met and sure they were attracted to each other, but the thing that she feared the most at the time was, was it worth giving this marriage a chance. Suddenly the light dimmed and she released that the lights had gone out. She continuing sitting there, enjoying the way the darkness comforted her. Her tears seemed to blend into the shadows as she sat there waiting in the darkness.
So I Stood, Waiting, In The Dark
With Your Picture, In My Hands
Story Of A Broken Heart
She finally decided to light some candles until Prem decided to get home. As she walked into the lobby she went to the corner desk and pulled out some long stick candles. She was rummaging around for matches when her eyes fell on a picture.
He was dressed in a burgundy sherwani, while she had on a white and red choli suit. Both of them were smiling with wide grins and she remembered that she had told him she had never been happier than that night. What a change this was a year later.
Stay With Me
Don't Let Me Go
Cause I Can't Be Without You
She didn't want to let him go but it seemed like the harder she tried to grasp him he was moving further away from her. She craved for the feel of his arms circling around her and the sweet words he always filled her ears with. The way his eyes took a once over of her every time she dressed up; she missed Prem. The one she married, not this crazy business man.
Just Stay With Me
And Hold Me Close
Because I've Built My World Around You
She knew that when they got married she had literally lost her identity. She had gone into making sure all his needs were met and during that time she couldn't even count of everything she had said no to. Her friends would call; she'd tell them she had to get the apartment ready. Her family would call to chat with her and she'd be rushing around doing other things.
And I Don't Wanna Know What's It Like Without You
So Stay With Me
Just Stay With Me
The door cracked open and she released a breath she didn't know she was holding.
"Prem?" She called out, holding the candle in front of her face.
"Shifali? Has the light gone out? Why haven't you called the electrician?" Prem asked as he hung his coat up in the closet.
"I called—but the whole building's light has gone out." She told him in a soft tone.
"Hmm," He replied.
This cold tone hurt her. She would try to hold a conversation with her but there was nothing she could say that would get enthusiasm from him.
"Um Prem?" She stepped in front of him.
"Yeah,"
She walked to him and placed her hand lovingly on his cheek. "How was your day?"
"Busy," He shrugged away from her grip, breaking her heart in the process.
I'm Trying And Hoping, For The Day
When My Touch Is Enough
To Take The Pain Away
Cause I've Searched For So Long
The Answer Is Clear
We'll Be OK if We Don't Let It Disappear
How many times should she reach out for him? She didn't want this marriage to break. Despite everything she knew she loved him and he loved her but why wasn't he making the effort with her anymore? He was the one who wooed her and had given her all the worlds' happiness but now that he had 'acquired' her she felt like a show piece in his magnificent showroom.
Stay With Me
Don't Let Me go
Cause I Can't Be Without You
The night got longer as she continued to stay out of their bedroom. She wanted to know how long it took for him to realize that she was not around him.
Finally at nearly 3 in the morning he stepped out from their room dressed in his navy sweatpants and white muscle shirt.
"Shifali? Why are you sitting here on the window seat? Come sleep in the room."
"Do you love me?" she asked from her spot, still looking out the window.
"What kind of question is that? And at 3 in the morning. Just come inside." He told her as he turned back to their room.
"It took you 4 hours to come out of the room to look for me," she stated.
"I was looking over some papers before I slept,"
"So you didn't think you should have your wife beside you; before you would just want me there to hold my hand while you did your work." Her eyes darted up to his face and he looked down in shame. "What's changed Prem? Why don't we have that love anymore?"
Just Stay With Me
And Hold Me Close
Because I've Built My World Around You
And I Don't Wanna Know What's It Like Without You
She wasn't sure what provoked her to finally come out and say everything that had been eating her up inside but she realized it was finally enough. If the love was never there—she didn't want to be tied down with it in a false pretense.
So Stay With Me
Just Stay With Me
She watched as he came and sat down across her and took her hand in his.
"I don't know," she could hear the quiver in his voice as he looked down at their hands.
She couldn't let her tears fall, not now. She didn't want him to think she was giving up. She pulled her hands out of his.
"What can we do?" She asked looking out at the rain again.
"There's nothing to do Shifs, we'll fix it. I swear to you we will," Prem pleaded.
Her heart was aching. She didn't want to see him in this pain but now her heart and mind told her that she had enough. "Prem, we need to separate,"
I've Searched My Heart Over
So Many Many Times
No You And I, Is Like No Stars To Light The Sky At Night
He couldn't believe the words that came out of her mouth. He backed away slightly and sighed. "Are you sure?"
She nodded slowly. "I don't want it either Prem, but now—there's nothing left in this marriage for either of us."
Our Picture Hangs Out Of Tune
Remind Me Of The Days
You Promised Me We'd Always Be
And Never Go Away
That's Why I Need You To Stay
The picture she had been holding sat there on the table and simultaneously both of them turned to look at it. She didn't want him to leave her, she loved him with all her heart but the pain was too much to bare now. She wanted him to love her the way she loved him, she deserved that but now—things changed.
Stay With Me
Don't Let Me Go
Cause I Can't Be Without You
"I'll leave tonight." He announced.
Her heart shattered. She knew she was the one who took the initiative but she still held hope that he'd realize the pain he was causing her and would change his ways and continue to make her happy. But now—she knew it was over.
Just Stay With Me
And Hold Me Close
Because I've Built My World Around You
What would her life be now? She watched him get up and walk back into their room and heard shuffling around as he packed his clothes up into the suitcase. He came out after and saw her face strained with tears.
"I love you," he whispered.
She nodded as he enclosed his arms around her. She couldn't speak anymore—her eyes hurt from the tears, her mouth hurt from trying to smile to make him realize she was alright.
And I Don't Wanna Know What's It Like Without You
So Stay With Me
Just Stay With Me
The door closed, leaving her all alone in their home. He was out. Out of her life and out of their home and now she'd have to learn to make it her own.
Her cell phone rang then, shaking her out of her thoughts. She wiped away at her tears and proceeded to answer it.
"Hello?"
"Hi. Shifali? This is Dr. Safiye,"
"Yes Doctor?" Shifali glanced down at her watch and saw that it was already 5 in the morning but was surprised that the doctor had called so early.
"I just called to tell you some news."
"Yes?" Shifali asked—if it was what she had dreamt two nights ago, she'd be devastated. She didn't want this right now. With Prem gone, how would she handle it?
"You're pregnant. Congratulations!"
Shifali nearly dropped the phone from her hand. "Uh—thanks." She hung up the phone and just stared at her reflection in the mirror. She was pregnant. With Prem's child. And now he was gone—how could she tell him.
Oh
Don't Leave
So I Stay Waiting In The Dark . . .
*cringes* How was it? 😳 I'm not sure if it was tragic enough, but now here it is! 😃 Can't wait to see what everyone thinks! 😊
Love you,
Meera😳
