Bollywood reacts to Shiney Ahuja's rape charge
Mumbai: He made his entry into Bollywood as Vikram Malhotra, the suave wheeler-dealer in Sudhir Mishra's Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi. That was in 2003. Six years later, Shiney Ahuja is yet to make his mark as a hero in Bollywood and the latest allegation of rape levelled against him might just send his career spiralling downwards.
Mahesh Bhatt's Gangster is Shiney's biggest hit till date and the veteran filmmaker minces no words when it comes to reacting to the incident.
"It is a shameful act and it must be condemned. He has confessed and he will be in big trouble," says Bhatt.
Labelled a promising newcomer with his debut film, over the years Shiney had acquired a reputation of being a temperamental star. Directors Mohit Suri and Vinod Pande who have worked with the actor in Woh Lamhe and Sins where surprised to hear about Shiney being accused of rape.
Vinod Pande says, "When I worked with him he did not come across as that sort of person."
Mohit Suri says, "Every actor has some attitude. Shiney had a bad temperament."
This isn't the first time that a member of the film industry has been accused of rape.
In the late 1980s, actor Aditya Panscholi was accused of allegedly raping Pooja Bedi's maid.
In 2004, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar was accused of rape by starlet Preeti Jain. However the case was later dismissed in 2006.
Shiney has two films on hand - Jahnu Barua's Har Pal, which is ready for release and Pritish Nandy Communications' Accident which is currently under production.
Though there may be no big money running on the actor, his image will certainly take a beating with this case.IBNLive
