Hiiiii! Okay, so the weekends are usually the boring-est times on the forum, because, well, it's the weekend! So I figured, why not put up a story I wrote yesterday? I was going to wait till Monday so I could post it exactly on Ravz's birthday, but I couldn't wait. So this one goes out to Ravz! Happy Birthday in advance, hun! 😃🤗
Soniye
Well, it was over: Prem Juneja and Heer Maan were now Mr. and Mrs. Prem Juneja.
The entire wedding entourage was now gathered in the Juneja residence for the reception, where there was good food, good music and lots of dancing.
Dhak dhak dhak mera dil dhadke
Tere bin tere bin dil na lage
Preet Juneja smiled and nodded politely, not at all interested in the business talk that Harman had dragged him into. Coke in hand, he glanced around, looking for some cute girl he could chat up.
His gaze fell on the circle of dancers. More specifically, on one particular girl dancing rather enthusiastically. She danced with her cousin, though her simple beauty paled her cousin's. She laughed as she pulled her mother in, dancing next to her.
Preet smiled. He knew who she was; over the course of making the wedding preparations, he had gotten to know her pretty well. She was Meher, the bride's sister, and she and Preet had fought over a lot of things. Meher knew exactly how Heer had wanted her dream wedding, but Preet had begged her to tone down the feminine decorations. After all, it was also his brother's wedding, so shouldn't he have a say?
Dhak dhak dhak mera dil dhadke
Tere bin tere bin dil na lage
Jab jab dekhoon tera mukhda haseen
Akhiyon mein milne ke khwab saje
He watched her. The soft yellow light fell on her face, giving her an ethereal glow. She was a like a bubble of energy, with the way she was enjoying herself, completely uninhibited.
Preet didn't remember seeing this side of her before. All along, she had been on edge, frazzled, worried about the wedding preparations. He supposed now that the wedding was over, she could finally enjoy herself.
And enjoy herself she did.
Tujhe doli mein bitha ke
Teri maang sajake
Lejaaoon main sab se chura ke
As she twirled around, her gaze fell on Preet, and she stopped. She raised an eyebrow, as though saying, what?
Preet shook his head, grinning.
Meher narrowed her eyes, placing a hand on her hip.
"Fantastic," he mouthed to her.
She rolled her eyes. Ashlesha tapped her, asking her something. Meher shook her head, saying something. (Preet wished he wasn't so far away; he'd have liked to know what Meher was saying.) Both girls looked at him, and Ash giggled, nudging Meher. Meher's eyes widened, and she burst into laughter, smacking Ash's arm.
A girl Preet didn't know grabbed the two, and they rejoined the circle of dancers.
Preet couldn't help noticing how Meher's gaze kept returning to him.
Soniye ve soniye
Mere naal aaja soniye
Soniye ve soniye
Mere naal aaja soniye
After dancing continuously for five songs, Meher was exhausted. "I'm going to get a drink," she told Ash. Ash nodded, and Meher peeled herself away from the dancers.
Her face was flushed, and beads of sweat were trickling down the sides of her forehead. She wiped them away as she headed for the drinks table, smiling at the people she knew.
"Ek Coke de dijiye," she asked the waiter standing at the table. He picked up a glass that was already filled with Coke and handed it to her. She took it gratefully, smiling. She sipped it, forcing herself not to down the entire thing at once. She fanned herself lightly, turning her back to the table and watching the dancers.
"Oye, soniye," said a smooth masculine directly beside her ear.
Kehte hai pyaar kise humko yeh batla de
Kehte hai pyaar kise humko yeh batla de
Matlab pyaar ka deewane zara samjha de
She nearly jumped. She turned to see who it was, and was rather surprised to find Preet standing there, a cheeky grin on his face. She rolled her eyes again and turned away.
"What now?" she asked boredly.
"Nothing. You know, when you danced, I was afraid there'd be an earthquake."
Without thinking, Meher turned back and smacked his arm. Hard.
"I'll have you know ki main Ludhiana ki best dancer hoon!" she replied indignantly.
Preet rubbed his arm, positive that it was red and would stay that way for a while. Good thing I'm in long sleeves, he thought ruefully. "And you must be the most violent too," he commented.
Meher started to smack him again, but Preet danced out of her way. "Betcha can't catch me!" he sang, dancing further away from her.
"Oh, you just wait and see!" she replied, running after him.
Rakh do kadam tum apne jahaan par jaan wahi hum de denge
Itni ijaazat rab mujhe de de sajde mein ishq ka karloon
Preet managed to find Heer and Prem, and he hid behind Heer. "Bhabhi! Bhabhi, mujhe Meher se bachaa lo!"
"Main tumhe chodoongi nahin!" Meher called out. She had completely forgotten why she was chasing him in the first place. All she knew was that she was having fun.
"Arre, yeh kya ho raha hai?" Heer asked, highly amused.
"Jiju, isne mujhe moti kahaa!" she complained, stopping and placing her hands on her hips.
"Arre, maine kab kahaa ki tum moti ho?" Preet asked defensively.
"Tumne kahaa ki jab main dance karti hoon toh earthquake lagta hai!"
Prem snickered and Heer hid a smile. Meher stared at Preet, eyes narrowed. She darted to the side, and Preet shot off again, Meher at his heels.
Haan tujhe doli mein bitha ke
Tera maang sajake
Lejaaoon main sab se chura ke
Preet turned a corner and stopped, panting. He waited for Meher to round the corner, and as she did, he grabbed her. She screamed, and Preet covered her mouth, grinning.
"I told you you couldn't catch me," he whispered in her ear. He let her go, and she whirled around to face him. Somehow, she looked even prettier when she was angry. Where did that come from? he wondered, pleasantly surprised.
Soniye ve soniye
Mere naal aaja soniye
Soniye ve soniye
Mere naal aaja soniye
She stomped on his foot and started to walk off, but he grabbed her wrist, trying to ignore the throbbing pain in his foot.
"Arre, jaane ki jaldi kya hai? Thodi der ke liya toh mere saath ruko na."
She turned back. "Why?"
Preet's smile became cheeky again, and Meher eyed him warily, not sure if she liked that look.
"Prem Bhaiya aur Heer Bhabhi ki shaadi ho chuki hai, toh main soch raha tha ki kyun na hum bhi shaadi kar lein?"
Chod ke main apno ko, tere saath kaise jaaoon
Chod ke main apno ko, tere saath kaise jaaoon
Ajnabi rishton ko soch soch main ghabraoon
Meher stared at him incredulously, her brown eyes wide. "What? Pagal ho gaye ho kya?"
Preet was wondering the same thing. His smile faded. "Maybe. But I'm absolutely serious."
Meher's heart raced. She couldn't understand why she wanted to say yes so much. She swallowed nervously.
Hogi kami mehsoos na inki, itna khayaal main rakhoonga
Kehna sake jo baat zabaan se aakhon se teri pad lein
Preet raised his eyebrows at her, the smile returning. He couldn't believe he was doing this, but he liked it. "Toh, kya kehti ho? Mujhse shaadi karogi kya?"
Meher grinned slowly.
Ho tujhe doli mein bitha ke
Teri maang saja ke
Lejaaoon main sab se chura ke
Soniye ve soniye
Mere naal aaja soniye
Soniye ve soniye
Mere naal aaja soniye

Hope you guys liked it! (You in particular, Ravz! 😆) I got tired of doing the shy, quiet Meher thing, so I thought, hey! I'll do a spunky Meher! And I'm hoping it worked...But...um...in case it didn't...here's a plate of vanilla cupcakes! (I made a speshul one for you, Ravz, it's got a cherry on top and all!) Enjoy the rest of the weekend! 😃
Love,
Bhav (:
