Isn't there more to marriage than just filling someone's head with sindoor?

Every serial has a scene like this. Maayka did. Waaris did. Vivaah did. Frankly, I find it very silly.

I understand this is a traditional symbol of marriage, but to reduce the meaning of marriage down to this one gesture is insulting to the whole institution. Amar put sindoor on Gauri. But that's ALL he did. It's not as though he consummated the marriage. There is so much to his and Divya's relationship that does not and never will exist between him and Gauri. DIvya is pregnant with his child, for crying out loud. Does this one act of desperation really undo all of that?

There is a lot more to a wedding and to marriage than this one gesture, and that's all it is--a gesture. I guess in the west, putting a ring on someone's finger would be a similar tradition. Does that mean that when I go shopping for jewelry, and the salesman helps to place a ring on my finger, that I am married to him? Of course not.

Marriage is a spiritual and legal bond. No such thing exists between Amar and Gauri. I agree it was kind of a silly way to "save" her, just like it was a silly way for Jeet to save Soni and a silly way for Raj to save Trishna, etc. It always seems to be a matter of saving the damsel in distress in these situations. But in the end, I do not find it meaningful at all and I think the reaction everyone is having is overly dramatic.

I agree with you because if I was walking down the street and I was in like India and some randomn man comes up to me and puts sindoora in my maang does that mean that I'm married with him? Why wasn't Amar married to Divya when he put sindoor in her maang when they were in banaras.

I think your absolutely right....I don't think that just by filling in someone's maang your married...there's more to a marriage...if by filling in someone's maang then Amar and Divya would have been married from the time in Benaras and it would mean that BA would also be already married wouldn't they because Bharat and filled Aditi's maang didn't he...when DIvya insisted that he should do so....then again it may not have counted because Aditi was already married to Karan...but just thought that maybe.....

what ever Amar did to Gauri...........Raj did to Tania.............Jeet did to Soni does not make any sense at all.
there is no point for Divya telling amar to leave with gauri.

I guess its because Amar said "Ab Gauri meri patni hai". That announcement is what makes them husband and wife. If he didnt say that, then it probably wouldn't mean anything. but the whole point of trying to save her life was to make her his wife😕

I agree it does not mean they are 'married' but that one act represents A LOT. He did it to show that Gauri is his 'wife', he knew that if Divya found out then she would be shattered. There is an underlying message. He has lied to his real wife and its a BIG deal! Even if it means he is not married to Gauri, he has done something behind his wife's back and thats the main point. You don't go up to any woman and put sindoor in her head....simple as!

The one act of filling someones maang with sindoor does not a marriage complete. It takes love, trust and mutual understanding to really make a marriage work. Well the trust and mutual understanding has been broken along with the endearing love of Amar for Divya and Divya for Amar. It would take a lot of forgiveness on Divyas' part and for Amar to really repent for what he has done to heal their marriage to the condition it once was.

Amar has hurt Divya very badly and in a very profound way. But I still think that theirs' is a love that can never ever exist between Gauri and Amar. And also a love that is so very deep and endearing that even Gauri could never ever do permanent damage to their relationship.
I hope that after Divya forgives Amar (which is going to take some time) that Amar really needs to stop and think before acting in the future about any major decisions or actions.

That is not the way to save a damsel in distress, man!
Come on Amar, no man in his proper senses would do what you did! You and your wife are reborn because your love for one another is suppose to be everlasting and you are suppose to be together for janaam after janaam! Then, why? Unless, let me think, just with her a few days/weeks, may be you did develop a liking for this creep of a woman that you could not bear to see the village man putting his hand on her?????? Her family stood by and just watched her being manhandled by the villages and none of them came to her rescue, yet you an unknown stranger who thought had killed her husband to be, had so much feelings for her, that you put the maang on her forehead and acknowledged this creep as your wife????????????????????
