Hi guys. A little something that's been going round in my head. It's inspired in part by the Arctic weather in London at the moment, in part by Rakhie's post on small gestures, in part by a conversation I had with Anvi and in part by something Monu and I had once discussed.
I couldn't relate it to YuRa directly as it's set in a western climate and well, you'll see. Though the guy is definitely Yudi, or at least his twin 😃
Hope you enjoy it.😳
-------------------
She looked up. It was pitch black outside. She looked at the clock on the PC; it was almost 7:45pm! When had it gotten so late? She had been working on the report for 3 hours straight, how the time had flown by!
Suddenly she was conscious of feeling thirsty. She stretched out, trying to release the tension in her shoulders. Reaching out for the bottle of water that was never far, she realised even that was empty. She had been focused so intently on her work she hadn't realised'.she got up to refill it from the cooler on the other side of the office.
As she was refilling her bottle, she noted the chill in the air. The temperature had dropped drastically. Or maybe the heating had gone off. Either way, it was cold. She pulled her jumper closer and started to pack up. Thinking about the long journey home, she sighed. It was going to be a long, cold one. The wind was howling. She wrapped her scarf round her tightly. She walked out of the building, already shivering - and if it was this cold inside, how cold would it be out there? She shuddered involuntarily. At least it was Friday, and once she was home she didn't have to leave again for a couple of days. She plugged her headphones into her ears, tucked her head into the scarf and set off towards the train station.
She was lost in her own world when suddenly she felt her arm being grabbed. She gasped in surprise. A little scared, she turned around to see who it was.
He had known she would leave late. When he had spoken to her in the afternoon, she had told him about the work and the report that was due next week. Hearing her distracted tone, he knew she would lose track of time, so he had decided to surprise her. They'd both been working hard recently, and he knew just the thing for a little surprise.
He saw her walk out of the building finally. He could see she was wrapped up against the elements, head tucked down. He knew she would not be expecting him here, which would make the surprise even sweeter. He smiled to himself, thinking about the weekend ahead.
As she got closer, he got out of the car and waited for her. She had not spotted him. As she drew level, he reached out and grabbed her arm. He knew she would be scared, but only for a moment.
She turned, startled and scared. When she saw him however, his smile wiped away any fear she was feeling. She was still surprised to see him though; he was the last person she was expecting to be there. She smiled, seeing him had bought a rush of warmth over her.
He pulled her towards the car. The pavement was a little icy, and when he pulled her she slipped and fell towards him. He steadied her, apologising for his haste. Holding her hand tight, he led her towards the car. Opening the door for her, he sat her down, closed the door after her and walked over to the driver's side.
As he got in, he looked over at her and smiled. She was still cold and so had not taken her gloves off, and was struggling with the seatbelt. He reached over and took the clasp from her clumsy hands and locked it into position. He caught her eye, and without saying a word, told her to sit back and relax. She listened to his unspoken command and breathed a sigh of contentment.
He started the car and drove into the night. Jazz music was playing on the stereo, which was lulling her into a sense of calm. It was just what she needed after her week. She was looking out of the window, not really paying attention to anything but noticing the magical wonderland outside. Christmas was coming and there were twinkling lights everywhere. It looked beautiful, but she knew it was treacherous. He would be concentrating hard as the roads were icy. She decided not to break his concentration and let him drive.
Suddenly, she felt his hand on hers. She looked round at him; he smiled while keeping his eyes on the road. She felt him slip the glove off, and then took her hand and placed it on his leg. She looked at him quizzically; he just gave her one of those smiles that always made her weak at the knees. She smiled back at him then turned her head back to window. That's when she realised they were heading in the wrong direction.
Hey, did you miss the turning?
No
But home is....
He interrupted her. We're not going home
We aren't? So then where are we going?
You'll see. Settle back and relax. If you're thirsty, there's some hot chocolate in the flask behind you.
She was a little thirsty, but to get the flask she would have to move her hand from his leg. She decided against it, she was comforted by the warmth seeping into her hand from his leg.
She lost track of time. After a while the buildings started to fall away and more open space was visible. They were heading out of the city. She wondered where he was taking her, not that it mattered. She was glad to see the greenery, though right now it looked white. She hadn't realised it, but it had started snowing lightly. Everything looked like it was covered in icing sugar. Coupled with the twinkling lights and the glimmer of ice, it looked out of this world.
Suddenly something caught her eye. There was something large glimmering to one side, just visible through the trees. He'd bought her out to the lake! He'd remembered! She'd mentioned to him in passing that she had wanted to see the lake in winter. Winter was her favourite season. The world looked so peaceful in winter, the first snowfall made everything look brand new. And he had remembered! She looked over at him as he pulled into a small road. He turned his head to catch her eye for a split second before he redirected his attention back to the road. Overwhelmed, she squeezed his leg. He took his hand off the wheel and placed it over hers in silent comfort...
The road was small and winding, leading up to the lake. She could see small shapes scattered around the outline of the lake - these must be the cabins. They were spaced out so that they did not overlook each other, but each looked out over the lake which was sparkling in the moonlight.
He drove up to one which was set in a clearing, with the trees behind it. The lights were on inside, there was a soft glow coming from it. He parked in the driveway, got out and walked around to her side. Opening the door, he took her hand and helped her out. She was still awestruck. The cabin was beautiful. There was a porch running around the outside of it, with some seating too. It felt warmer to; that was due to the heaters which were throwing a glow of golden light out towards them.
He held her hand tightly and led her towards the door. He took a set of keys from his pocket and unlocked it, then in one fluid motion swept her into his arms.
But how? When did you get the keys?
Is that relevant right now? He replied, looking into her eyes with a smile playing at the corner of his lips.
I guess not. She replied as she wrapped her arms around his neck. His intense gaze was reaching far into her, somewhat unsettling but deeply calming at the same time.
He knelt down in front of the fireplace and set her down. The fire was already roaring, and the heat coming off it coloured her cheeks straight away. He tucked a strand of hair that had become misplaced behind her ears, and giving her face one final stroke, said:
Make yourself comfy. I'll just go get our stuff.
Our stuff? But I didn't bring anything...I didn't...You didn't tell me.
Relax, will you. I packed a bag for you. It wouldn't have been a surprise if I had told you.
She was amazed. He had packed a bag for her? But that would mean....the colour on her cheeks intensified as her mouth burst into a wide grin. She looked down immediately, but it was too late, he had seen. He grinned too as he turned to go & get the bags.
She took her coat off and unwrapped her scarf. Sitting back, she took in her surroundings. It was a large room, lit by the fire and small lamps which gave it a glow. To one side, there was a kitchen. To the other were 2 doors. She looked back at the fireplace, which was so large it practically took up one wall. In front of the fire there was a pail of logs, and even more logs were piled on either side of the fireplace itself. She picked up a small log and absentmindedly placed it into the fire.
He stood at the doorway watching her. Her face was radiant in the firelight, the tensions of the week slowly easing away. He hated seeing her tensed. If he could, he would make sure she never felt anxious or stressed, but he could not control all parts of her life. He wanted to make sure however that he removed those feelings as soon as possible. She bought him such contentment. Just seeing her, her mere presence wiped away the daily stresses of life for him. She was sat on the rug, leaning sideways on the couch. He dropped the bags to the ground and went over to her. He sat behind her, wrapping his legs around either side of her and folding his arms around her. She leant back into him, placing her arms on top of his and sighed.
It's beautiful
Yes you are
She turned her head to look at him. He was looking at her.
I mean it's just stunning, gorgeous.
Keeping his eyes locked into hers, he tightened his hold on her.
Yes, you are.
I'm talking about the cabin
And I'm talking about you.
She realised there was no point in carrying on when he was in this mood. She trailed a finger over his arm and whispered...Thank you...for everything...
He didn't reply. He was mesmerised by the motion of her finger on his arm; she was drawing random patterns over his arms and hands. His grip on her was getting tighter and tighter. She grinned, knowing full well the effect she was having on him.
Suddenly he sighed and released her. Leaning back, he said you must be hungry. I am. Let me go get something together.
No, I'll do it. You sit back, you've done enough.
No. I want you to relax; I've got everything under control. If you want to go freshen up, the bathroom should be one of those doors. Your stuff's in the red bag.
He got up and went towards the kitchen. She wondered if there would magically be food in the fridge, then she realised he must have bought stuff with him. He really had thought this through! She smiled to herself; she was a lucky girl to have him in her life.
She got up and picked up the red bag and opened the first door. That lead into a bedroom, It was simply done up, with a large bed in the middle and a big chest of drawers along one wall. There was another fireplace in there too, with the fire burning in there already. The room felt warm and cosy. She stepped back and opened the second door. This was the bathroom. She stepped in to freshen up.
He had made some pasta. Something simple, but filling. He knew she loved pasta, especially when made fresh and served with warm bread so he had stopped at the bakers on the way to get her. He'd been surprised she hadn't smelt the bread, he'd wrapped it tight to try and keep the smell from seeping into the car, and it had worked.
The best thing about fresh pasta was that it did not take long to make, and it was done and ready before she came out of the bathroom. He had just finished laying the table when the bathroom door opened and she stepped out. She'd changed out of her work clothes and clipped her hair up loosely. She walked over to the table and sat down in the chair that he was holding out for her. As she pulled the chair in, he reached down and gently brushed her cheek with his lips. The gesture was tender, and she was touched.
He served them both and they started to eat, talking of everything and nothing. When they had finished, he told her to go back to the fireplace whilst he cleared up. She tried to resist, insisting on helping but he refused and insisted on her leaving it to him.
Instead of going to the fireplace, she went towards the front door. She wanted to get a better look at the lake. She stepped outside and walked up to the porch railings, standing next to a heater. The lake was exquisite, shimmering and iridescent in the moonlight. She thought over her evening so far. It seemed like a lifetime ago that she had walked out of the office into the cold night. The evening had just taken an enchanting turn; it could not have been more perfect. Even nature was helping out with the light dusting of snow and the beauty of the surroundings. The stresses of the week slipped away as she took in her surroundings. She was so lost in the moment that she didn't even hear him come out.
He had bought a large blanket out with him. He came up behind her and wrapped it around the both of them, as she leaned into his warm body. He was always warm, and she was always cold. He rubbed her arms through the blanket to warm them up.
She rested her head back on his chest. At that moment, life was perfect. This is what pure happiness felt like, she realised. There was nothing on her mind except the present. She was warm, content, safe. She wanted nothing more. A sigh escaped her lips.
A second later, she felt his lips against her. His arms tightened their grip around her as his lips caressed her neck, moving slowly but surely upwards. She gripped on to his arms to steady herself, further loosing herself in the moment. Almost unconsciously she turned in his arms to face him. She wrapped her arms around his waist and held on tight, resting her face on his chest. She could feel his heart beating...it was in the same rhythm as hers. She could feel his thumb caressing the small of her back, making small circles slowly upwards. He unclipped her hair so that it fell in soft curls around her face. He lifted her chin up, forcing her to look into his eyes where she saw nothing but love reflected. She raised a hand to his face and stroked his cheek. Gently, she drew his face down towards hers....
