Pritam should be given the highest level award in the world as the world's most efficient copy master. I doubt if anyone can come across any person anywhere in the world in any field (music, art, literature..) who so openly, so brazenly, so blatantly steals someone else's work and stills gets away with it.

I think Pritam has developed some system where he just puts the CD of south eastern song..and out comes the music track without words, and then like karaoke, he asks his singer to sing Hindi lyric on that and the song is ready, just in few hours....that is how he is coming out with so many songs every year.......he has a song factory where his raw material is south eastern songs, 80% production ready..you just need to paste Hindi lyric on top.....

I always wonder about one thing. In olden days, MDs could copy or "take inspiration" from songs from other countries and no one would know...neither the listeners of the copied songs or the original songs, or the composers of the original songs...this was because reach of Indian music was limited to India and songs from the other countries were never so actively listened to in India.

With the advent of Internet, increased interest and awareness in music of other countries in India and reach of Indian music across the globe, the picture has completely changed. There are groups of international music savvy people in India who are just waiting for the release of new film albums to find out which songs from that album are copied or "inspired" from which international songs. And within the matter of days, if not hours, they publish this information on websites and let the entire world, including the original composers know.

Are folks like Pritam and music release companies so brain dead that they do know this and continue to illegally copy music? yeh to police ke samane chori karane wali baat ho gayi..........Let me know your views on this....

Dear salil

there are more layers of truth underlying, like producer/director giving pritam work only on the condition he sounds the same ( which means he does chori again), eventually the blame lies with the cassette company that is why the Taiwanese singer has sued tips cassette industry and not Pritam but if even 1-2 of such claims result in loss to the cassette walas they will surely put pressure on directors et al to make sure the out put is not chori ka maal.

Actually there are many people involved like script writer then diro him self copying firangi film scene by scene like Bhatt & Co, in this atmosphere only musician cant be blamed.

I read that singh is king's script is line by line copy of an Indian novel and that guy has sued the producer for Rs 2 crore .
Yes there is a team of guy looking into inspirations on more than 5 sites.

Interesting finds on itwofs:

26
Chaand chupa [Hum dil de chuke sanam] <TC>
Composer: Ismail Darbar
Inspired by the Love story theme by Francis Lai
Listen to Francis Lai's theme from Love Story | Chaand chupa
Inspired.

Ai ajnabee [Deewangi (2002)] <TC>
Composer: Ismail Darbar
Lifted from Portugese 'Fado' singer, Dulce Pontes' song, 'Cancao do mar'!
Listen to Ai Ajnabee | Cancao Do Mar
Two interesting things to note here....'Cancao do mar' was part of the soundtrack of 'Primal fear' from whose plot Deewangi has been inspired. And second, 'cancao do mar' has already been lifted as-is in Tamil, for the movie Kushi, with music by Deva! This is probably Ismail Darbar's first blatant lift...I can almost see Director Anees Bazmee and Producer Nitin Manmohan compelling Ismail to lift this number...but you never know...!
Also listen to the Tamil version Oh Vennila [Kushi]

Nimbuda Nimbuda [Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)] <TC>
Composer: Ismail Darbar
Inspired by Ghazni Khan Manganiyar's Rajasthani Folk song, 'Nimbuda'
Listen to Nimbuda [Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam] | Nimbuda [Original]
If you'd like to listen to the full version of the folk song, click here (check out 'Nimbuda Nimbuda'!)
Take a look at these 2 (out of many other sites) sites that talk of this song being a lift from a Rajasthani Manganiyar folk song!
Diverse Strains | Sunday Tribune
I completely agree with Shuba Mudgal (who has penned the write-up in Diverse Strains) when she asks, "If we can listen to a folk song in a blockbuster movie, why can we not give an occasional patient hearing to the original?" Ismail Darbar had a wonderful chance to handle this in the right way, but I wonder why he messed it up and ended with a 'plagiarist' tag - that too in his much-celebrated debut. All he had to do was to add a note of credit to the original composer of the song, Rajasthani folk singer Ghazni Khan Manganiyar, so that people can differentiate between the original and the Bollywood version - when you listen to the two you'd understand the kind of work that Ismail has put in, in his version and made a simple, 'otherwise-restricted-to-a-few-discerning-listeners' track into an ultra-catchy dance number! Its a pity that decided to pass it as his original composition.

pritam is a chor and iit was only a matter of time he got called out in public. how can someone copy over 100 songs and "forget" that the songs have been copied and its stupid if he expects the directors or other people on the film crew to remeber to give credit to the original composer!!! I think thats stupid on his part...but as we have all seen on other websites he isnt even the first everyone from kishore kumar to anu malik have lifted tracks from other composers! Plus his music sounds better then several other MDs out there today....but thats a personal opinion we wont get into out here....
