I am on 27...it got slow in between but now its picking up again...I wonder who the ghost is living upstairs and what Sylvester's real intentions are?smiley24

I'm planning to start the other book on Monday. What about you?

I agree, it did get slow and every sx scenes of them were weird. I didn’t really like this one much 🤣 just forcing myself to push forward and finish it asap. I’m almost done, only a few chapters so gonna finish tonight.

They’re stuck in one place so quite a lot of the conversations and scenes are repetitive. HD Carlton certainly can write better and don’t think this is a good book for her. I didn’t believe there were ghosts or spirits as Sylvester made it seem. Was surprising when we come across who this ghost was and you were right, Sylvester was creepy, he’s more evil that it seemed.

Which one did we agree to start? 😅

Finished 🤣 thankfully.

Yeah, by the end it wasn’t one that I liked. The plot and suspense wasn’t anything great or dark tbh. I wouldn’t class this as enemies to lovers or even a dark book. The only creepy thing that had me curious was the sounds in the night of chains and banging, but otherwise it sort of became predictable and you kinda guess that there’s no ghosts but something else is lurking in background.
I rated this as 2.75*

I can see that the second book is The boy on the bridge, from reviews it doesn’t seem like one I’d enjoy now 🤣 so many are saying they’re poor imitations of the leads from Untouchable and I loved that one 🤣 I’ll read 3 chapters and let you know whether I want to continue because I definitely don’t want to be stuck trying to force myself finishing a book that I don’t like again 🤣 and this one is almost 700 pages.

Good to know she can write better, I was starting to have doubts on the cat and mouse duet.smiley36 But I don't think this book is that bad, it's better than a lot of dark romance books I have read, I like the whole mysterious element. I am on chapter 29 and I always knew it's not a ghost, I think I might know who it is but I could be wrong. Lets see.smiley36

Oh you changed your mind, I'm glad I didn't start reading the second booksmiley37 Please choose another book by tomorrow though, because we don't have much time left until the challenge ends and I'm a slow reader. We can read psychological thriller if you like, something short ans easy to read. You choose.

I already chose the first book, so the second book has to be your choice now.smiley36

What about Take Me With You by Nina G Jones? I think you said that was in your TBR?

Read the 3 chapters, it’s okay but didn’t like the premise of it starting with them aged 14 years because it seems unrealistic 😂 kids that age tend to be emotionally immature.

Went to check Take me with you by Nina G Jones and wasn’t feeling it 🤣

Have you read - Her soul to take By Harley Laroux? It’s standalone even tho it’s in a series. The other books are on different couples. That one has some raving reviews and the blurb is interesting.

Others on my list are:

The ritual - Shantel Tessier

Insatiable - Leigh Rivers

I’ve been meaning to start Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver. It’s 342 pages if I recall correctly.

Another that’s in my list is Still beating by Jennifer Hartman, it’s 400 something pages.

P.S: I’ve started Twisted Emotions by Cora Reilly so should finish that by tomorrow so can start on whatever we choose after this.

I have already read Still Beating and really enjoyed the first half. The second half got a bit slow and boring. I lose interest when the leads start falling in love.smiley36

I don't really read romcoms, but I do have butcher n blackbird in my TBR too so we can give it a try if you want.

I like it slow burn where they fall in love at the end and get together at the end because the tension etc before then is so good to read, the angst and back and forth etc. Even when they’re enemies, there’s that electricity which keeps me on edge and curious how they’ll get together. Mariana Zapata is the Queen of slow burn, all of her books they get together like at 85-95% of the book. With epilogue showing their HEA. Unfortunately none are dark romance but still really enjoyed hers.

Butcher & blackbird: It’s supposed to dark romcom seeing as they’re both serial killers so I hope there’s some darkness 🤣 Let’s go for that. I’m 30% into the current book and will be done tomorrow. But can’t start until Wednesday evening as Tuesday and Wednesdays are just busy at work.
