He did jump out of the emergency exit but still not sure before or after the crash. Everything happened in a matter of few seconds. Hard for even the guy to recollect and explain.Call it a mystery or a miracle, he survived.

Absolutely devastating. Specially heartbreaking for families of the victims. Air travel is supposed to be the safest form of travel. How do they get any kind of closure from this?

Is this claim backed up by any facts or data?

Yes. Relative to car, train, and other forms of travel it is the safest. Statistically you have lowest odds of fatality during air travel as compared to other modes of transport. The reason for that is how strict air safety regulations are compared to say car travel or train. That includes rigorous training to become a pilot vs the fact that any idiot can sit behind the wheel of a car 🤷🏽‍♀️

Tragedy happens, as it did today sadly. But air travel is significantly safer still.

This is from Google:

Statistically, your odds of being involved in a fatal crash are significantly higher when driving a car compared to flying on a commercial airline. For example, the odds of dying in a plane crash are 1 in 13.7 million, compared to 1 in 101 for driving.

The thing is the other forms of accidents gives one a chance to survive but a small mistake and air accidents are the end of it with very poor survival rates. Of course, at the end of the day an accident is an accident. It can happen even while sitting at home. Otherwise how can one explain those poor innocent medical students who were just living their life? :(

True. But I think looking at totality of it, the number of fatalities in one year is still significantly lower by air travel compared to car travel.
