Well I mostly watched a bunch of cheesy romcom movies smiley36 liked some, got put off by some, nothing substantial to rec. And then I rewatched Suspicious Partners and Secret Life of my Secretary (both kdramas). The first one is a sorta comfort show for me at this point, I've watched it like 3-4 times already 😅 The second one I ended up watching accidentally, courtesy of Netflix smiley36 I hadn't actually enjoyed this one the first time I'd watched it, but this time I somehow got hooked in and ended up really liking it. Definitely gonna rewatch in future too. Complete change in opinion I know smiley39

Other than that I watched Laapata Ladies, loved it, you can definitely watch it if you haven't already (all my friends been telling me that I was the last one in the world to watch that movie 😭🤣). Also started like 2-3 new kdramas and a jdrama, one of them in particular seemed really cute and interesting but my Netflix expired before I could finish any of them smiley36 so now it'll have to wait until I feel like getting a subscription again 😅

I'm also watching a mini cdrama currently that went in a very different direction from I was expecting smiley18 still not bad, so I'm gonna keep watching it until I finish (I'm almost there anyway) but I really expected some intense push/pull or forbidden romance stuff. Or at least a moderate slowburn. But these two kissed way too early and drowned all my hopes 😭 now it's just a cute couple who love each other, with some typical background conspiracies going on. I mean... cute is nice, and I enjoy it when I'm in the mood, but it wasn't what I wanted from this one 😭

So now I'm just hoping that the book I'm currently reading gives me some intensity. It's supposed be a slowburn and it's enemies to lovers so I really wanna hope but I don't wanna get drowned again so I'm also keeping my hopes low smiley19

Let's see what happens, if this also disappoints then I'll just fall back on some thrillers to help me recover smiley36

Cheesy rom-coms are my jam! smiley16smiley17 Which ones did you watch?

Laapata Ladies - yes, such a feelgood movie! Loved it!

Am not so much into K or J or C dramas so have no idea what you're talking about but I keep getting recs, so maybe I will give them a try sometime and see? smiley9smiley8

What book are you currently reading?

Yeah, I also find that well-written thrillers are the best way to get out of a reading slump and get my mojo back!

Whoa this was enjoyable. I was all set to shelve this or pace it out at 25% - wasn't feeling it, but then it picked up pace and I finsihed it in one sitting. Once I stopped expecting more romance and taking it for what it was - an adventure-fantasy-comedy-romance (in that order!), I liked it a lot more. There was gorgeous detail in this - full marks to the author for the canon callbacks and other painstaking research and for cleverly weaving wizarding lore with Christain and Pagan ones. Absolutely well-written. 3.75 stars only because the British reserve was frustrating in the romance - it picked up only at around 70% and its slooooowwwww buuurrrrn. And having only Draco's PoV. That was refreshing at first but later it began to annoy, because the reader doesn't get to hear from Hermione - why did she fall for Draco? Also, Hermione is a bit of a Mary Sue, isn't she? smiley29

Sorry, forgot who else reads HP FF.

Current read/s: Say you'll remember me by Abby Jimenez (60% done) and My Lady Jane (I'm doing this as my Book club read-along and we only read a chapter a day so I will be done only by end of the month - unless I break the rules and read ahead! smiley36)

Okay nvm I guess I found the full form of the acronym smiley36

I love it when Draco Malfoy goes through mortifying ordeals smiley37

It wasn't nearly as mortifying as I'd have liked smiley17

There’s too much sannata here so let’s do this- everytime you finish a book and update your log, post something here on the thread to tell us so and tag your teammates (and anyone else you want to). It can be a gif or simply a post to tell us you’re making progress or it can be specifics like posting what book you finished and maybe a review of it?

Let’s make some noise here and cheer each other on! What say? smiley16

I really am trying but this month and especially. this week has been quite disturbing for me. Still I am halfway through my first book and hoping to finish it next week and start another one. I hope I can read more in May!

What are Abby Jimenez books like? Are they angsty? Are the MMCs possessive?

Abby's books are more slice of life. Her MMCs are very real, down to earth and mostly cinnamon rolls. Also she doesn't write very spicy stuff. So I'm not sure her books are for you, but I love them!

I hope things get easier for you soon!

Another one finished - Say you’ll remember me. 5 stars. Made me cry a few times and I hurt so bad for Xavier and Samantha. Xavier especially. Cos this guy. Was. U.N.R.E.A.L.

Was thinking of 3.5, then 4, then 4.5 but in the end i upped it all the way to 5. Abby doing what she does best. The book will resonate with anyone who’s had to care for a sick person, anyone who’s faced having to do long-distance for any amount of time for whatever reason. And with anyone who loves pets (especially dogs). Any book where the MMC is a Vet (& gets to be VILF) gets my vote!

Some highlights from the book:

I never get why white men are grumpy. Like, we’re living in a patriarchy. You’re the most privileged class on the face of the earth. You’re not walking to your car with your keys through your fingers like wolverine and you’ve got bodily autonomy, why the bad mood?

We lose the words to say it. We lose the ability to show it. But we never lose the ability to feel it or recognize it when we see it.

Love is the brightest color in a gray world.

You think that it’s the big memories you should be chasing—and it is in a way. Birthdays and vacations and special occasions. But the small memories are the fabric of your life, the ones so inconsequential that you don’t even remember them. You just remember how you felt when you were making them.

I think there are two types of people you fall in love with.

The ones who are a good fit. Their lifestyle matches yours, you share the same values and beliefs, you find them attractive and you like spending time with them. It’s good. Great even. You can live your whole life with this person and be madly in love and never want anything different…unless you’ve already met the other type of person you fall in love with.

The One.
