I'm episode was absolutely rubbish! You’re getting professional chefs to compete against novices and you want us to believe Nikki’s dish was as good as a professional chefs? Honestly none of them stood a chance against the professionals.
Talking about the dishes, I’ll start with the professional chefs -
Chef Ishjyot - very homely, all the elements are what most have grown up eating. But would I order that at a restaurant- no. I can easily make it all at home, nothing complicated, why would I order it outside? For me it was a flop.
Chef Reema - gosht halwa - I’ve heard of this, probably on some cooking show. As intriguing as it is, didnt look wow to me. But Atleast it’s something different, unheard and I would have liked to try it (if I wasn’t vegetarian).
Chef Gaurav - an indianized chicken roulade. To me the plate was messy and didn’t appeal to me at all. When I saw the plate, I thought to myself that the contestants plate better than him. The dish sounded good, and I would’ve liked to try it.
Contestants-
Rajiv - he was waiting for chocolate for so long that he only had 55 minutes to cook and no chocolate. He could’ve just gone back with the fruits and 75/80 minutes and could’ve made a dessert. Anyway his dessert sounded and looked amazing. Though it lacked colour, I don’t think every dish needs to be colourful. It looked gorgeous as it was. Glad his flavour were appreciated.
Nikki - she waited and had only 55 minutes because she wanted chilies for thecha. Some confidence this girl has on her thecha. Her dish looked like a previous dish she’s made with a single prawn on top of rice. And white rice against a white plate is beautiful? But then for some they criticize the choice of plate because the food doesn’t stand out. Her dish looked too simple for the finale week. Also if it was another contestant the judges would ask if it was main course or entree. And then would say that just one prawn for that much rice wouldn’t be enough.
Gaurav - he made an upside down plum cake with a passion fruit sauce and a fennel crisp annd a mango chilli foam. Overall I thought his dish didn’t look too great. We’ve seen much better. The dish neither looked great nor sounded great to me. Mango and chilli is a combination that’s been repeated often, passion fruit sauce has been done numerous times. But I’m glad he wanted to make savoury and not just stick to his forte, but of course because time was a decider he went the dessert way.
Faisu - he made a sable in a taco like shape and filled it with some elements (I forgot), and his dish had some jam and candied nuts. It was a beautiful looking dish, the best looking of the day. It sounded really good, something that I’d like to try. I’m so happy that he didn’t restrict himself and chose a dessert today, and what a job he did! I’m sad that his wasn’t the best dish, but of course everyone is second to thecha queen.
Tejaswi - she made a naan, chicken nuggets like tikki, Bedgi chilli and jaggery sauce, some herb oil and an onion and fennel salad. Overall her plate looked good and appetizing. I would eat it. Sounded good, different and she got good feedback as well. Except for her naan which had become hard.
Overall, it seemed like a filler episode. Nothing finale week worthy.
Seems like the finale is replicating Sanjeev Kapoors dish (from what I’m reading), no wonder Nikki didn’t win. It had no thecha!! Every time she makes thecha the judges go ga ga.
on a side note - how amazing is Hussain looking in tomorrows precap. I’ve had the biggest crush on him since the early 2000’s. I’ve seen girls on SM crush over Gaurav Khanna, I think that’s exactly how I feel for Hussain. 🫣🫣🫣
