When I signed up for this reading challenge I never thought I would be able to complete reading a book in a few days. After finishing the book, I started reading another thriller and that's written by Sidney Sheldon. And a horror novel will be delivered to my house from Amazon tomorrow. I intend to read the thriller novel and the horror novel simultaneously.

Damn I’m stoked for you Shirsha! That’s a really great thing. Trust me I used to feel the same way when I started reading and used to complete ahead of what I thought was possible. So kudos to you! smiley31

I will say this though - whether a book is 350 pages or 270, the content is the same. It’s just that the 350 page edition probably has a different type set, bigger fonts or the book itself is smaller in size like a mass market copy and that’s why number of pages are more. Hence why using page counts from one standard website makes sense because book sizes and page numbers vary all the time depending on publisher, edition and book type.

I actually have the same issue Lizzie. The physical copy that I hold is 297 pages, but the Amazon print length shows 288 pages. I went ahead and logged the physical book’s number of pages. What should I do in this case ?

One more quick question at ya.

What’s the minimum of number of pages that we are supposed to complete for the challenge ? In the rules post, you have mentioned that we have to commit reading 200 pages for the challenge. I told one of my team members that 200 pages is minimum but since everyone has individually signed up for a certain number of books, they can try and complete the quota. Of course it’s not a compulsion, but if they can, that would be great! smiley27

Is this okay or is my understanding incorrect ?

Yep you’re right. Minimum is 200 pages. They don’t have to meet their goal - the one they signed up with but if they can, that’s great.

Did you check the paperback length? Ebook length can be a slightly less. I’d still say use the Amazon print length to maintain uniformity - but now I’m leaving it up to you since so many are having issues with this.

Paperback shows 194 pages smiley29 I’ll go with the Amazon print length to maintain uniformity. If there’s a discrepancy of 10-20 pages, it’s not a big deal I guess.

let me give you an example. I read Rebeca Yarros’ Onyx Storm for my reading challenge last month. I read it as an ebook on Libby and the print length on Amazon was about 768 pages. There were others in my group who read it in paperback and only logged 540 something pages because that was the print length given on Amazon. That’s because Onyx Storm came out printed as a non-standard paperback, with wider pages, therefore it made sense that the paperback had fewer pages. Similarly, if the same book is printed differently (non standard sizes) then the print length also varies. Does that make sense?

It half does smiley37 I borrowed the book from my library and it is printed as a standard paperback but since Christie is a very old author, there have been multiple editions, and each time the paper back is subject to change according to the typeset that’s being used. The one I’m using was published ( reprinted ) in 2007.
But you know what ? I’m not taxing my brain over this smiley39 toh kya hua if there’s a few pages discrepancy ? I’ll read yet another book to compensate. smiley36

But thank you for clarifying it in detail. smiley31

Tbh I haven’t deeply researched this. I’m just going by what my FB group did for their reading challenge and it worked for them 🤷🏽‍♀️. In my head it makes sense for all of us to use one standard print length given on one standard website because that evens it out for everyone no matter what format/ publication they’re reading.

But if some of you have reservations about this, then go ahead and put down whatever you want to. Just that there will be no way to verify it if the figures aren’t close

No Lizzie I have no reservations. I’m doing exactly like you suggested. I’m using the Amazon print length instead of the number of pages in the physical copy I’m holding so that it’ll be easier for you to verify. I’ll add the Amazon link in my log additionally.
