A Taste of Something Forbidden
The ETF office was unusually lively that morning. It wasnât every day that their grim, case-heavy atmosphere was infused with something lighthearted. But today was Chocolate Day, and thanks to Shree and Chotu, every desk had a little box of chocolatesâan innocent attempt to bring some festivity into their otherwise intense routine.
Riya entered the office, adjusting the strap of her bag on her shoulder. She hadnât even placed her files down when Shree practically bounced up to her, grinning like an excited child.
âRiyaaa! Aaj Chocolate Day hai! Toh yeh lo, tumhare liye ek special Swiss chocolate.â He dramatically extended a neatly wrapped bar toward her.
Riya laughed, shaking her head. âThanks, Shree! Yeh zaroori tha?â
âArre, of course! ETF ki eklauti ladki ko bina chocolate ke kaise chhod dete?â Chotu added, handing her another one.
âWaise,â Shree wiggled his eyebrows, âtumhe kisi aur ne chocolates nahi bheji?â
Riyaâs fingers stilled against the wrapper for a fraction of a second. The events of the last two daysâthe mysterious rose and the anonymous noteâflashed in her mind. She hadnât received anything unusual this morning, but the memory lingered like an unresolved puzzle.
Before she could answer, the air in the room shifted. A presence made itself knownâone that commanded attention without uttering a word.
Arjun Rawte had entered.
Dressed in his usual black attire, his sharp gaze flickered across the room, momentarily landing on Riya. For the briefest second, his eyes darted to the chocolates in her hands. Then, as if dismissing something, he walked past her, heading toward his desk.
Riya sighed. Of course. Arjun was probably the only person on the planet who was completely immune to the concept of Valentineâs Week.
She turned back to Shree and Chotu, rolling her eyes. âKoi secret admirer nahi hai, samjhe?â
Shree smirked. âPakka?â
Before she could retort, another small, wrapped package appeared on her deskâseemingly out of nowhere.
Her breath hitched.
It was a single, dark chocolate bar, wrapped in deep maroon foil. No note, no extravagant gesture. Just the chocolate, placed carefully on the side of her desk, almost as if whoever left it didnât want to be noticed.
Riya stared at it, her heartbeat suddenly erratic.
Shree and Chotu blinked. âWait, yeh toh humne nahi diyaâŠâ
A strange silence fell over the room.
And then, Riyaâs eyes instinctively flickered toward him.
Arjun was at his desk, seemingly occupied with a file. But something about his demeanor was different. His fingers tapped lightly against the edge of his desk, his jaw subtly clenchedâas if he was pointedly ignoring something.
Riya swallowed, her throat dry.
Could it be
No. No way.
Arjun Rawte and Chocolate Day? That combination sounded as bizarre as Shree without his gadgets. And yetâŠ
Riya bit her lip, her fingers hesitantly brushing over the chocolate. Was it a coincidence? Or was thisâ?
Before she could analyze further, Arjunâs voice sliced through the air.
âConference room. Abhi.â
Everyone snapped to attention. The teasing, the chocolates, the lightheartednessâall forgotten in an instant.
But as Riya followed Arjun into the conference room, she couldnât ignore the way her pulse refused to settle.
And she definitely couldnât ignore the dark chocolate that still sat on her desk.
The case briefing went by in a blur. Riya tried to focus, tried to push aside the ridiculous thought that had planted itself in her mind. But every time she stole a glance at Arjun, her doubt wavered just a little more.
After the meeting, she lingered near her desk, waiting until the room was nearly empty. Then, mustering every ounce of courage, she picked up the chocolate and walked over to where Arjun stood, his back to her as he scanned through a case file.
She cleared her throat. âSir.â
He didnât turn. âHaan?â
Riya took a breath and held up the chocolate. âYeh aapne rakha?â
For a moment, there was silence.
Then, slowly, he looked at her.
His dark eyes locked onto hers, unreadable as always. âKya?â
Riya forced herself to keep her gaze steady. âMere desk par ek chocolate rakhi thi. Bina kisi note ke.â She paused before adding, âAur mujhe lagta hai yeh aapki taraf se thi.â
Arjunâs expression didnât change. But something in his stance didâjust slightly. His fingers, which had been resting on the file, curled inward for a fleeting second before relaxing again.
And then, in that same deep, infuriatingly calm voice, he said, âTumhe aisa kyun lagta hai?â
Riya blinked. âKyunkiâŠâ She faltered. Because you looked at it. Because you were the only one who didnât comment on it. Because a part of me just knows.
She hesitated. âBas⊠intuition.â
Arjunâs lips pressed into a thin line. His eyes held hers for a long moment before he finally spoke.
âGalat intuition hai.â
Riyaâs heart droppedâjust a little.
But then, before she could react, Arjunâs gaze flickered downwardâjust for a second, just long enough to glance at the chocolate still in her hand.
And then, with an almost imperceptible softness in his voice, he added, âPar agar tumhe pasand hai, toh rakh lo.â
Riyaâs breath caught.
For the first time in forever, Arjun Rawte hadnât denied something outright.
She didnât say anything. She simply stared at him, her mind a whirlwind of unspoken words.
And as she turned away, chocolate still clutched in her hand, she knew one thing for sureâ
This wasnât just Chocolate Day.
This was something more.
Valentineâs Week had never been this dangerous.
And it had never been this sweet.
Uff Arjun and teddy poles apart, ufff His expression, his gaze sooo intense , he's making Riya's week memorable and u r making us addict for ur stories đ đ€§â€ïžâ€ïž

Nice update

Cont soon
The day had started like any otherâETF members engrossed in their cases, files being exchanged, discussions turning heated at times. But beneath the usual routine, something had changed.
Riya could still feel the weight of yesterdayâs momentâthe coin in her pocket a constant reminder of the unspoken promise between her and Arjun.
It was not a confession, but it was something.
And now, as she walked into the office, her eyes instinctively sought him.
Arjun was standing near the evidence board, his sharp gaze fixed on a cluster of photos. His presence, as always, was commandingâstrong, unreadable, yet magnetic.
Riya took a deep breath and approached him.
âSir, naye leads aaye hain?â
He glanced at her briefly before nodding toward the file on the table. âEk possible suspect track ho sakta hai. Shree aur Chotu uspar kaam kar rahe hain.â
She nodded, but her focus wasnât on the caseâit was on him.
His shoulders looked tense, his posture rigid.
She had worked with him long enough to recognize the signs. Something was bothering him.
Her fingers curled slightly. Aaj Hug Day hai.
A small, ironic smile tugged at her lips. The one thing he would never allow himself.
And yetâŠ
The day went by in a blur of chase sequences and interrogations, but tension ran thick in the airâespecially around Arjun.
Riya saw it in the way his fists clenched a little too tightly, the way his jaw locked every time a criminal mocked the law, and most of all, in the way he refused to look at her today.
By the time the case wrapped up, she knew something was terribly wrong.
And then, it happened.
They had just finished questioning a suspect when Arjun suddenly walked out of the room, his pace urgent, his steps heavy.
Riyaâs brows furrowed in concern. Something was off.
Without hesitation, she followed him out.
She found him standing near the ETF terrace, his back to her, hands gripping the railing tightly.
She hesitated for a second before stepping closer. âSirâŠ?â
No response.
She could hear the wind rustling, the faint sounds of the city below. But the air around him was too stillâlike a storm brewing, waiting to explode.
She tried again, her voice softer this time. âArjun sir⊠aap theek hain?â
Finally, he turned.
And for the first time in a long time, she saw itâthe raw, unguarded pain in his eyes.
Her heart clenched.
She didnât know what had triggered itâmaybe a detail in the case, maybe a buried memory he refused to face. But in that moment, nothing else mattered except the way he looked like he was fighting a war within himself.
A war that he was losing.
Without thinking, she stepped forward.
And then, she did something even she hadnât planned.
She wrapped her arms around him.
The moment she touched him, she felt him go rigidâevery muscle in his body tensed under her touch.
For a second, he didnât move.
Didnât react.
Didnât breathe.
She tightened her hold just a little, resting her cheek against his chest, her voice barely above a whisper.
âSir⊠bas ek baar. Sirf ek baar⊠apne dukh ko rokne ki koshish mat kijiye.â
His entire body shuddered.
And then, he exhaled.
Long, deep, shaky.
His hands, which had been frozen at his sides, slowly lifted.
For a moment, she thought he would push her away.
But thenâhe didnât.
Instead, his arms came around her, hesitant at first, then tighter.
She felt his fingers clutch the back of her kurti, his grip almost desperateâlike he was holding on to something he had convinced himself he had lost forever.
She closed her eyes, her own arms tightening around him.
And they stood there.
For seconds. For minutes.
For a lifetime.
In that moment, words didnât matter.
Only this didâthis fragile, rare moment of surrender, where Arjun Rawte, the man who never let anyone in, had finally allowed someone to hold him together.
She didnât speak. Didnât move.
She just held him.
And for the first time, he let her.
