There are 2 things the writers are never going to completely acknowledge. Firstly make Armaan realize how wrong his family, especially Vidya is; maybe some random confrontation scene in an inebriated state which he completely regrets the next day or forgets it completely. The writers also played it smart by inserting the stepmother-son relationship, probably the only smart plot point. The reason is simple, any sympathy and connect the viewers have towards the character Armaan hinges on this fact, that he gets the stepson treatment. Every wrong decision of a 30+ year-old supposedly smart lawyer has been justified behind the facade of doing it for his mother, be it agreeing to marry Ruhi,leaving Abhira alone for 3 months or the current track. Take the stepson equation, viewers would lose connect to Armaan and his reasons and actions both become accountable.

Secondly as long as they want this ship to sail, they will never have Abhira acknowledge that maybe Armaan isn’t the right person for her or even show her fully accept this isn’t a healthy relationship. The day they show that it would mean either the writers are sinking this ship or gearing up for a leap.
