Many families do this .. especially if there is a wealth disparity.. poor families settle for any amount which they deem suitable.

But n one can take away the paap that Vidya has done of crippling a young man .. and now she is not even feeling guilty about it

Ideally she should served 2-3 years in jail .. that would have been atonement of her sins

Giving money does not absolve you of any sin .. people use it to get away from going to jail .. as court proceedings are tedious n expensive

If vidya had served her time in jail .. 10 years is too much but anytime say 2-5 years .. some atonement would have been done
