Whatever it is, the biggest failure of SMD is that they have failed to make people connect to Bilal and Sadaf. I mean 30 episodes are gone and their track hasnt even started
Honestly, the story and how it is evolving makes a lot of sense if you see it as Sadaf's story. It's not Bilal's one-sided love story. Nor is it Sadaf or Bilal's love story. It is a story about different philosophies of love (Bilal's selfless submission, Dania's obsession, Ammar's possession, Humsha's manipulation) and we see them play out against each other through their impact on Sadaf's life and her journey. All these other people and their philosophies are various push and pull factors that shape Sadaf's journey and her understanding of love. The end is Sadaf realizing what true love is. One of the people on the space said the same thing though they said it better than I did.
Sadaf is the main protagonist, the pov cktr. While Bilal, Humsha, Ammar all are equal-footing characters, and their philosophies of love get equal weight in narrative. The Bilal-Ammar dynamic is therefore as important as Bilal-Sadaf dynamic as is Sadaf-Humsha-Ammar dynamic to Sadaf's journey. That's why they all get so much screentime. OThe issue people have is because they want this story to be something it is not. If you go with what the writer has intended to write, the narrative structure and how story folds out makes sense. Execution is another issue though.
