Strictly my opinion,
Honestly, the show really went downhill after the wedding week. Before that, it was kind of building up well, but I still feel like the scene between Bilal and Sadaf on the eve of her wedding was such a missed opportunity. That scene was key and both the director and Maya Ali should’ve given it their all.The dialogues were strong and W nailed his part but Maya didn’t really capture the depth that scene needed. There was so much subtext in those lines. The moment where she subtly asks Bilal for help signaling her uncertainty and longing for a way out was critical but Maya didn’t really show that inner struggle and also the awkward placement of the dupatta didnt help. Bilal in this scene got to know that she has feelings for him and he even brought it up in yday's scene with Humsha and he also knows she brings up Ammar in their conversations just to express her inner conflict. Then the Sangeet scene felt so off it was like watching her acting all bubbly and coy when she’s clearly struggling inside, that whole montage should’ve been used for the OST not to fill in scenes that didn’t match her emotional state.
There should’ve been a time lapse after the wedding to show how Sadaf’s dealing with the mental and physical abuse from Ammar. The last two weeks of episodes just didn’t do anything for the story or the character arcs. The bad direction and weak acting made it even worse. I still think the writer had a decent script and I really liked the setup of Bilal and Sadaf’s relationship after that proposition scene. It was new and had a lot of potential but it’s been such a letdown. No shade to the fans of the actors but Usama, Maya, and Amar have been terrible, especially in the last few episodes.Their OTT acting just didn’t work for me it felt more like caricatures than real people. It honestly feels like this show was meant to be about Bilal and Sadaf but they stretched it out so much that their story got diluted. They’re throwing in unnecessary scenes to just drag it out and now the important moments between Bilal and Sadaf won’t have the same impact. Why keep showing all the awkward scenes with Ammar and Sadaf when we already know he’s selfish, manipulative, and an all-around jerk? And don’t even get me started on the scenes with Ammar and Dania they’re just uncomfortable to watch and the acting makes it worse.
Haseeb, I really expected more from you after seeing what you did with Kubra in Alif. What made you think these exaggerated performances and cringe-worthy scenes were a good idea? It’s really disappointing!!
