Rahul looks despondent as we have the latest rain break. This isn't helping India one bit and they've lost one more wicket in this small oassage of play. 246 is the first target to avoid the follow-on and that looks like a long way away for now

14.1

Mitchell Starc to Rahul, FOUR, crisp, Rahul is looking in good touch - full and wide of off, he leans into the drive, plays it on the rise and finds the gap wide of cover, the ball races away across the fast Gabba outfield

When can they stop play for the day or will they be coming out for 5 mins for a few more times?

What a farce, they're going off again and for the final time today in all likelihood. It has just started to drizzle again and off they go. Terribly frustrating for everyone involved. The umpires brought the light meter out and took a reading. They're still out on the field having a chat while the players have all left. Only a slight drizzle but enough to take them off. "It would take a miracle to get anymore play today" says Matthew Hayden on air. The umpires are still out there, well it is their job to ensure that they try and eke out as much play as possible however unlikely it seems in the moment, can't really fault them. Don't think anyone involved will really appreciate it if they call the players back out there again this evening though. Play has officially been called off for the day

Well, an extremely frustrating day that. It was a bit of a masquerade every time they came out there as the rain hung around Brisbane like an annoying mosquito that disappears as soon as you flick the light on but promptly returns to torment you as you turn it off. Well, in the little play that did happen, India didn't have a good time of it again. Australia decided to resume batting in the morning and added about 40 runs to their overnight total. India's innings started off on the wrong-foot as Jaiswal edged his first delivery for four and was caught off his second. India needed some application from Gill and Kohli but they didn't get it from them as both fell trying to chase wide deliveries outside off. Pant was the next to fall after nicking off to Starc to leave India in trouble 44/4. Mind you, all of this happened in between the numerous interruptions and the Indian batters simply weren't allowed an opportunity to get settled. Now, they trail by 394 and their fortunes in this game look bleak. What looks even bleaker, however, is tomorrow's weather forecast. There are heavy showers and storms predicted for the entire morning and afternoon so today's annoyance might unfortunately still persist tomorrow. On that rather sour note, we'll take your leave for today, take care and goodbye.

Weather had it's say today, and while there is rain on the forecast for the two remaining days of this Test, we do hope we get more action and hopefully a result. That will be all from us today, but join us tomorrow to see where this game heads. On behalf of Alex Malcolm, Thilak and everyone else at ESPNcricinfo, this is Abhimanyu signing off.

That's it. That's stumps on Day 3. Australia will be disappointed they couldn't get a chance to eke out more wickets. India will be happy they can go back and regroup on a day that kept getting away from them.

The weather at Gabba will be a key factor alongside team selections for both Australia and India in the 3rd Test. Keeping an eye on conditions could play a big role in the match's outcome.

India were tottering at 51/4 in reply to Australia's 445 with KL Rahul seemingly looking like the only batter ready to put up a fight. He has captain Rohit Sharma at the other end but the weather could play spoilsport in Australia's quest for a big win

Only 33 overs could be delivered on day three at the Gabba, which saw both sides frustrated with the stop-start nature of play due to rain. Nevertheless, 33 overs was enough for Australia to hammer home their advantage and put themselves in the driver’s seat and sway the odds of this match — and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as a whole — strongly in their favour.

A disastrous start to the innings with bat leaves India gasping for air at 51-4 at stumps, with KL Rahul the only batter successful in making any sort of knock of substance as multiple wickets fell cheaply and loosely to Australia’s barrage with the new ball. Rahul is now joined by captain Rohit Sharma, who is in poor touch and desperate need of runs, the sort of batter you don’t want coming out with a Test match on the edge as he looks for confidence.
