I had watched couple of his films when I was a kid. I feel that his contributions to the growth, popularity and success of the Hindi film industry has been immense. He not just made memorable movies as an actor but more so as a director. Also, if you talk about his films which he directed, you not just about the actors. You also talk about the story, music, cinematography, costumes, everything. He made movies for every generation. He made social movies like Prem Rog for the older generation, love stories like Bobby for the younger generation of that time.
Unfortunately the current generation only remembers him for his offscreen personal life and introducing nepotism in bollywood. For me, he is beyond all these and people should talk more about Raj Kapoor as an actor, producer, director and nothing else. After all, he too was an imperfect human being like all of us are.
y conveyed his innocence, his desire for a dancing lady, and, in a sense, his moral and ethical convictions. But in the end, he is a bewildered man who has gone back to his original path by letting his want and longing for her, that lead her to a different place! 
It's OTT dramatic. So fun. He even sings a song in that one. Let me see if I can find it.
