Maybe there still are producers who won't like to resort to certain methods others use...only because India is labeled as a country where corruption and power plays thrive, it doesn't mean that every key player in the filmindustry uses doubtful methods...
That being said, I'm sure that Thadani (AA Films) belongs to those who doesn't shy away from ensuring that he gets the maximum money out of a promising product. (Btw, Tanhaji was also distributed by AA Films)
The problem is about loot and scoot policy,
Such big ticket releases have huge number of screens but lower occupancy, indicating people have rejected the film but because of sheer number of screens an impression is created of a BO success at the same time it squeezes out other films from getting a release.
I have not seen Tanhaji so cannot realy comment if it was a good or a bad film but it was released in about 4000+ screens worldwide while P2 was released in 12000 screens WW, out of which 7000 were in India. Tanhaji did business in Maha because the topic had never been a subject in hindi films but even Tanhaji did not have a great occupany barring few centres Pune where is touched almost 80%.
The same is true for P2, it's occupancy sank on 2nd day itself, it's Telugu version also did not have good accupancy, on the othar hand BB3 had really good occupancy.
A mature person once said that; "Numbers don't lie"
They should release in limited screens outside Maharashtra maybe and increase later if needed .
I don't agree as it is about the first impression at the box office that counts... numbers have become over-important...the opening day...the first weekend...the first Monday...the first week...etc. Even here in the forum we get less member reviews but double and triple reports of numbers of which one doesn't know how true they are...it's all about painting a picture in numbers... sad but it's the amount of money and not the genuine footfalls that is propagated. It's far more difficult to cheat with the actual footfalls than to cheat with the amount of money.
And well, there still are filmpeople who don't want to cheat and I think that Maddock Films (Dinesh Vijan) is one of them.
They should release in limited screens outside Maharashtra maybe and increase later if needed .
Just like a sort of audience-volume-titration?
