He knew very well what he's been planning for so long , it might end up real bad..but then his only hope was that he could find evidence against Ling yi and implicate him lawfully .....he was constantly working towards it but when peng Kang died , that last bit of hope was lost ..n that's when he decided to end it all..

That's the one and only loose end of the story ..the evidence which even he couldn't put his hands on , niao niao found it so easily and exonerated him 😁 all of it looked very easy but I don't think it was..just bec we saw the full story & that emperor helped him later , heard him out , he was saved frm the cliff , they also found evidence to save him , it looked that way ke if he told her earlier on , and they married first, things would work out one way or the other ..but it really wasn't certain ..he didn't plan out that one thing ke niao knows it all n she would be standing right behind him , ready to face the consequences..he actually planned to die

He wouldn't marry her before he carried out his revenge..that's the reason their marriage was delayed & everything was delayed ..like betrothal gifts and all..it was a fact ke if they married & his plan goes south , niao niao and her whole family would perish with him ..he witnessed his clan's death , he couldn't let her be the reason for the cheng family's death..that one time she risked her life to save them , they were her dear family..how could she see them getting executed bec of her and her husband, incase they married ?

What broke her was he abandoned her on the cliff n said their fated relationship has ended ..n when he said he doesn't regret leaving her n die , she ended it with him

I felt scared and broken when he pushed her front and jumped backwards in the cliff.. Like goosebumps.. NN asked him till the very last till before she left the palace if he wants to say something to her.. I felt so bad when her dad said to ling buyi that half built coffin for NN is still in their garden after he abandoned.. I wish this seperation could have been handled in a different way.. But still nevertheless this show is masterpiece itself..

If everything went along with his plan & that useless crown prince didn't delay him & the rebel general wasn't poisoned in the jail by Ling patriarch he could easily prove the entire conspiracy & get his revenge then peacefully get married to Niao Niao & live happily ever after but alas with that rebel general's death all ways to bring the truth to light was gone(according to his knowledge) so was his chance to obtain justice legally. You see after he gets his revenge i.e. killing the scum... he has a maniac laugh then stops. There is this empty feeling on his face i.e. justice served now what ? next he turns around and sees Niao Niao standing in the wedding dress ( no matter how heartbreaking... this scene was beautifully shot). That's where he felt the regret. Regret for not choosing the love & happiness that was waiting for him.

Sure he didn't know the emperor would believe him the moment the the words leave his lips about him being general hua's son. Sure he didn't know that the emperor too would be as much eager to get brutal justice for his best friend. Sure he didn't know that there was more proofs hidden by the mistress.

But sure he could marry Niao Niao, come clean to her & fulfil the promise. Sure he try to keep calm & scheme more as surely Ling was not someone who would stop doing evil. As long as Ling believed Buyi was his son, he won't harm him. He could keep scheming & expose his future evils. Or maybe plan the massacre and blame it on the overexcited general and his "royal-kick-hungry" minister brother or the rebel restaurant guy

but I guess our 15 year old nibbi with abandonment issues needed to grow up as well as our unbelievably-qualified general(come on the brat is just 21) had some lessons to learn. He can't be rushing to fight 200 battles a year now or else Yuan is still all safe, sound & single in the capital and logically its true that he has more chance to live longer.

p.s. I hate this new rule of c-dramas of limiting episodes. Can you believe they actually had cut the drama cut shot by 10 episodes ?

If she had married that scholar he wouldn't allow her to be herself.. He would be restricting her playfulness unlike yao and ling buyi.. Which is why NN dint have interest in him from day one.. This show is wholesome one.. My favorite too

Plus , it doesn't matter if he had the emperor by his side.. legally , he would be implicated & there was no chance to prove his innocence as all other options were exhausted..the secret that he's actually huo was known to him or his aunt who turned crazy..later on , the birthmark n that stuff was omg So contrived.. they made it look like it was so easy ..otherwise the tiger tally theft was alone to execute him I guess it amounted to treason ?

But what a great scene and great execution ! 👏 kudos to the all the actors! They were flawless ..

His reaction after the massacre was expected ..to me ,revenge is never fulfilling otherwise you're not the "good person " . And specially revenge in this way ....it hurts your soul as much as it can hurt others ..obvio there were no regrets & i dont blame him at all...but he knew that he's now a criminal and all his loved ones would see him that way ..all those who cared for him, it was time to part ways with them ..

The times when she saw the beast inside him , heard abt him from others , and put her into deep thought , those scenes were so so good .. she understood his reasons ..

There were plenty of such scenes & I would rofl each time Bahut hi mazedar script likha tha..that dialogue no..find something better than gossiping about women's marriages 🤣

Shanjian and niao niao were great as buddies but as partners I'm not sure ..he wouldn't restrict her & also give her a simple peaceful life like Yao but something didn't click between them ..may be what her sil said got ingrained in her mind ..your life partner must challenge you & encourage you ..

Uurrggghh! I hate them for restricting the number of episodes..they are weirdos...kya kya rule bana dete hai. Are they trying to compete with the Ktv ? Their shows r great as well but what's the harm in keeping 30-40 -50 epis if the story demands ?

Most of the people in comments section wrote that only thing they miss about this show is their marriage.. Which is indeed true they could have added extra episode..in kunning palace they made sure everything and everybody had good ending..so satisfying to watch..they even added marriage episode as extra..Ling Buyi and NN should have got married grandly.. Also I wanted Niao Niao's mother to repent more.. She did dirty to her own daughter.. I hated her .. You choose to have kid, you choose to abandon your kid, you know she is not treated well but you do nothing, you pick on her vulnerability.. When she put NN down before emperor and before everyone in the imperial Palace my heart broke into 100 pieces for NN..how can you treat your own daughter like this.. There must be other ways to stop the marriage how can you do this.. If I were NN I wouldn't have forgiven her.. I would have accepted apology but distanced myself from that kind of mother.. Thing is nobody showed her actual mirror.. Everybody around her were talking sugar coated words including NN father who was another spineless man.. Glad she got mother's love from empress and laad pyaar from ling buyi who treated her as queen..

When the emperor himself came to chen mansion for NN-Buyi engagement , her father and mother was shocked.. I'm sure they must have understood what importance she has in their lives.. Another good character thing is NN's maid whom NN thanks at last for always being with her.. And NN friend who later becomes her siL.. They all are lovely characters...

True ! She was deplorable.

But it's not like she was not shown the mirror. Niao , her third aunt , their retort were the best..but she was too stubborn and egoistic to listen..when she beat her up & the scene at the palace where she puts Her down was the lowest she could get ..

Also , when she favored yang yang openly and blatantly, it was sick !

I'm kinda glad she couldn't get her redemption ..she should've lived in guilt and regret ..The grand mother char although she was funny , and she regretted her actions too but niao didn't warm upto her till the end & that was good !

Glad it the end she had so many ppl who cherished her ..

Haan i missed their marriage too..that's why I said they should've skipped the last bit of life & death situations one after the other and show their happy married life instead..it feels compelte that way

Very few shows can have that kind a fulfilling ending I suppose ..wonderland of love they showed the kids n stuff n it was veryy nice but then I didn't like him giving up his throne & leaving the palace..who rules the world again it was bitter sweet and they didn't show the kids inspite of the leap ..as beautiful as you went too far with old age and death! Gawd! I😆 only, only for love had that kind of an ending woh bhi in extended version ..the double was kinda nice , again extended version ..you are my glory had the best ending ..

Yao was.... a pet while Ling Buyi can be considered the 2nd in command in the whole empire right after the emperor yet he was always really humble around Niao Niao to the extend that when you start watching the show as an audience especially the 1st season, when the story is focused mainly from Niao Niao's pov you feel that all the "bhago bhago! bhoot aaya" reaction that people around give when they see Ling Buyi seems overexaggerated or simply put for comedic purposes after all "banda kha toh nahi jayega !!!" that was till the scene where he brutally stabs a prince to death during interrogation. Then you know that nope ! "kha sakta hai !!!" that too churney daalke

Coming to Yuan, to Niao Niao compared to how the other 2 treated her, he was acting kind of like a watered down version of her mom to get away from whom she was ready to marry yao. He was constantly criticizing her, her clothes her mannerism and everything and even rudely telling her to get out of his carriage while she was injured that too quite late at night on a deserted street. Dude atleast send a servant or someone ! He is basically a manual of "How to NOT approach a girl whom you like" Ofcourse she didn't think about him romantically. He was destined to be the younger version of his wolf uncle

Nope with the trauma & the responsibility to carry out the justice for the innocent souls of the city, his family & his father's army he couldn't have & won't have chosen marriage over revenge but that didn't mean he didn't contemplate the choice.

Yes the Tiger Tally theft was enough to execute anyone but he was god of war fighting 200 battles a year. His contributions could save his neck. And even if the emperor wasn't as doting on him as he was, he was still a benevolent emperor. Really reluctant to give death sentences to anyone like you see with Consort yue's brother. At most he might have been demoted to a foot soldier or worst case exiled to remote place.

But another option about his identity they didn't explore was them wondering where did the tally that was handed over to general Wang came from as it was also as original as the tiger tally & forged together with it & handed exclusively to General Hua. Emperor could easily identify it. Sure Ling Buyi handed it over to crown prince to give it to general wang. But when grilled by emperor about replaced tally crown prince wasn't evil to lie about the incident that Ling Buyi gave it to him to save his reputation. Now it makes me angry as I remember originally with this twin tally he could easily prove his identity but he gave it up cause stupid crown prince got Niao Niao involved in forging a fake one. May he keep suffering as nakaam ashiq in more than one life time

If you guys are interested and have patience then you must try The Story of Minglan. It is work of the same writer as LLTG and has almost all the similar elements just a bit matured. But cause it was made few years earlier the makers took their time to fully flash out the story i.e. 73 episode. I know it sounds scary but it is made to look like a novel page by page. It covers so much details in the wedding processions, court rituals of that time like a documentary. And its a story that stays with you.

The leads are given full time to grow, go through their separate journeys alone before they come together as each other's best match. One may freak out with the idea of them as a possible pair with initial episodes(including me) but trust me the point at which they come together is when they grow to be each other best option. The male lead here has one of the most unique combination of characteristics I have seen in my history of watching dramas.

Caution : Don't watch this immediately after watching anything like LLTG, Kunning Palace or The Double or else it may seem quite slow. Watch it only after you have watched something you hated or found boring.
