India’s WTC points PCT slipped down from 68.06 to 62.82, holding only a marginal lead over defending champions Australia, who are placed with a PCT of 62.5. India have six more matches this cycle, one against New Zealand in Mumbai and five in the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

Rohit | India captain: Disappointing. It's not what we expected. Got to give credit to NZ - they played better than us. We failed to capitalise on certain moments. We failed to respond to those challenges. And we sit here today. Didn't think we batted well enough to get runs on the board. You've got to pick 20 wickets to win, yes, but batters have to put runs on the board. Was a great fightback to restrict them to 250-odd but we knew it was going to be challenging.

Rohit Sharma: When they started off, they were 200/3 and for us to come back and get them bowled out for 259 was a great effort. Wasn't a pitch where a lot was happening. We just didn't bat well enough. Things would've been slightly different had we got a bit closer in the first innings. We want to show up well at Wankhede and try and win that Test. It's a collective failure. I'm not somebody who would blame just the batters or the bowlers. We will come out with better intent, better ideas and better methods at Wankhede.

First up, India captain Rohit Sharma: [On the loss] Disappointing. It is not what we expected. NZ played better cricket than us. We failed to respond to challenges and we sit here that result. I don't think we batted well enough to get runs on the board. You have to take 20 wickets, but the batters have to put runs on the board as well. We did not put enough runs, then coneceded a 100-run lead. It was a fightback from us, but it was always going to be challenging. We thought we could chase but the continuous challenges we could not cope. When they started off, they were 200 for 3 and for us to come back and bowl them 259 was great. It was a not a pitch where a lot was happening, but we did not bat well enough. NZ played better. [Looking forward] We want to show up at Wankhede and win that Test. It is a collective failure. The team has failed to accept the challenge thrown at us.
