Lawaris or nawalid is something I am more familiar with from Bollywood movies rather than actual school textbooks. Seriously though, there are words that I do not even recognise. Like that day, the conversation they had about the moon - Sitara used a word for self-respect or desire, which sounded like "ana" - so I had to check it up since the Hindi word which I am familiar with is abhiman or izzat. This expands my vocabulary though.

Thank you for sharing the info about Ali. Sikandar's accent is more typical of the older generation who didn't have that much access to English language media while growing up. They tend it speak English like that because they literally are translating in their heads while speaking.

It is always a treat to learn other languages. I am an Arabic language teacher. We learn English in schools here, but none speak English here, or use it. In India and Pakistan I think it is useful because you have different local languages.. so for cominucation English helps.

So (a) is like (na) it is new information . smiley22

Anaa means (I) or in Arabic. It is used for self respect. And sometimes it means ghuroor or selfishness.

It is surprisingly incredibly common but it has to probably do with the fact that people try to find auspicious dates to get married and that relies on the couple's horoscopes. I have seen a lot of couples' court register their marriages at their convenience. And then actually have the religious ceremony at an auspicious date, sometimes even a year or so later.

Yes. Zohreh lost her charm after marriage. She used to be more stylish, however I didn't like her, coz she can't act. smiley4

Zoya debuted with ARY , but she became a very important vamp in Geo. smiley36 She did a show for Hum. It is Dobaara , one of my most fav dramas.. because it has a middle aged woman getting married to a much younger guy. I could relate to the heroine, coz I am mid age myself.smiley9

Zohreh is not that capable of an actress but I am loving her character. Zoya Nasir actually looks like one Indian tv actress Bharati Kumar. When I first saw her, she really reminded me of her.

Wow. You are from Bengal. The land of poets, novalists and great cinema. There's an old Hindi movie which changed my prespective about human beings. It is Amanush. Uttam Kumar played the drunk unapologatic guy who's misunderstood by his dears, to perfection. Also in Kahaani the cold plooded killer sent chills to my whole body. Thanks to great direction and performances.

Once he said "how dare she", I laughed out loud and everything clicked into place. I had forgotten that this guy is not just jealous and possessive, he is also incredibly territorial. LMAO.smiley37smiley36 I just realised it is the same scenario of "kahin bhi kisike saath bhi muhn uthake chali jaogi" 2.0. From his POV, Sitara is allowing Salman to get too comfortable with her in his absence, just like when she went out with Qasim in Hyderabad or wanted him to drop her home. This fellow really does not like it when Sitara relies on someone else other than him. Especially when it is another male. Salman was really enjoying getting back at Salar. He definitely knows that Salar has feelings for Sitara. But unfortunately for him, he has underestimated the strength of Salar's feelings. I also liked that even Sitara subconsciously knows that Salar will protect her. And Sana is absolutely right about Zohaib. I am not sure about why she dislikes Zohaib so much but she is right on her money about him.

Good episode though. Sitara is so confrontational. I know she is still pretty traumatised and so I am glad Junaid did not take it negatively, rather treated her like an wounded person that she is. He really can cut through the bullshit especially ones that Salman is trying to weave. I wonder why despite everything Sitara still is trying to fix things with her relatives. They are a cesspool of toxic creatures. And go Zoya go! smiley27

I am happy that you keep pointing at the positivities in this show. Salar and Junaid's convo, he was hit by realisation that Sitara is trusting the wrong ppl. He couldn't go to the field before checking if Sitara is safe. He tried to threat Salman. But Salman knows that he is out of Salar's reach. smiley6

When Sana mentioned to Sitara that if Junaid tried to misbehave with her Salman was there to stop him.. and Sitara said: Salman isn't Salar. Salar won't let any guy look at me, he would've pulled his colar . Sana was stunned. And when she asked her about it.. Sitara said : Salar is badtameez ,ignorant..smiley36 Whom does Sitara fool? She is thinking of him whenever she faces any problem with her family members. But what can she do when her own brother who claimed to be protecting her is going to betray her. smiley13

Shahida is very dangerous and full of haterd. She wishes the worst for Najma and her family.. she wants Nimi to stay single forever. What kind of a person she is!

I am glad that you have such a positive impression of Bengal. Yes, we are actually pretty good at arts and intellectualism. Amanush is definitely a classic and I loved Kahaani, especially its cinematography. It uses a technique called guerilla filmmaking and it really captured the essence of Kolkata. smiley27smiley9

Thank you. smiley36smiley27 I try my best to ignore the family scenes, although I don't skip them, but the truth is that they give huge insights into the overarching story. Salman is going to so get his ass kicked once Salar returns. He is unnecessarily provoking a person who is perfectly capable to being, as Sitara rightly puts it, jahil and has no qualms behaving that way.

Zohaib is an unfortunate product of his own environment. He knows his position in that household is not only secure but also crucial because of the immensely patriarchal and misogynist societal structure he is in. Add to this that he was much younger than Sitara when he lost his parents and began being raised by his uncle and aunt further influencing his value system in their favour. Further add to this, his aunt's behaviour where she misbehaves with Sitara mostly behind Zohaib's back but pampers him, and what you have is a cocktail of a young adult who has imbibed the orthodox mentality of his family. He has begun identifying more with his uncle and aunt and slowly has become detached with his sister. Remember how Sitara was left behind in Hyderabad even by Zohaib while everyone went for shopping. Thanks to his society and environment, his positive view of his elder sister is thus dependent on his perception of her virtue. This is particularly so because he projects his own capability to perform misdeeds onto Sitara and her tarnished reputation. He genuinely believes that Sitara is lying and was sneaking around with men, and she only got caught with Salar. That is why he calls the possible relationship between Sitara and Salar as "chakkar" literally translating to an affair or a fling, not "rishta" which means a relationship, that would accord a sense of dignity and responsibility between Sitara and Salar. One thing to notice is that he never asks Sitara about whether she likes Salar, whether she loves him or not, whether she feels safe with him or not, how they became so close, whether she prefers Qasim or not. He became very aggressive with her once Qasim claimed that they were in love without even trying to crosscheck things with Sitara and ask her whether or not she truly loves Qasim and was in a relationship. Since then, he has dehumanised her wants, needs, desires, dignity and now unfortunately her life. Unfortunately, for the society he is in, men believe that the ability to exercise control over the women of their family, especially on their sexuality, is a symbol of their masculinity and any breach of that perception of control becomes a case of supposedly tarnishing the familial honour. You can see that Zohaib is being cruel with Sitara. He has lied to her, misled her, is making the decisions for her life not only without her input or consent but against it, and this is not just the case with Salman-Sitara alliance. This is a guy that had no problems marrying his sister off to a middle aged man with two grown up kids, essentially throwing her out of the family and abandoning her at the mercy of near absolute strangers in a foreign land. Not once did he insist on waiting for Qasim, talking to Qasim's mother, or insist on finding another groom, younger albeit widowed or divorced, while taking responsibility of the situation. He could have done that easily by setting his foot down. He could have said that while it is certain that Sitara needs to be married off as soon as possible because of her tarnished reputation, they should wait for a more suitable groom. Yes, one can say that they felt like they were out of options but as we can now see, they were perfectly decent options - Salman and Zoya's brother. The fact that Zohaib insisted on doing nothing and was instead making threatening faces at Sitara at the wedding made me sick. I hope that Zohaib really gets a kick in the shins in the story and gets some sense knocked into his head by Salarand maybe Junaid (I think that he is still a young adult who just needs a more sensible and positive male role model than the ones he has around him).

Lol. smiley17 Najma-Shahida beef is the best thing in the story. It is so common in joint families that it is like watching the most typical family drama from your own neighbourhood coming to life on TV. Yes, Shahida is being vicious but I assure you given how she complains about her marital family in genuine pain, I am pretty sure even Najma must have pulled some shit on her. Absolutely terrible people. May these two destroy each other.smiley16
