...of his arrival...

The perfect marriage V

"If I say I love you it's not enough...

I rather show you, make you feel till the end..."
Steeping out of the Mumbai airport, he rushed into the awaiting car.

"Dammit." He muttered under his breath after checking his watch.

He knew she was disappointed.

Even though she told him she understood, he could hear the disappointment in her voice when he last time spoke with her.

He hated that he disappointed her.

It was one of the worst feelings in the world, knowing he let her down.

He checked his watch again and took a deep breath.

If he could make it, the look on her face would help to ease the ache in his heart for having disappointed her.

"Drive fast as you can." He told the driver and settled back against the seat.

Jai Walia looked towards his young brother, Nachuket, who was sitting quietly in the other end of the luxury limousine.

"Did you bring it?" He asked.

"It's in the trunk."

"I'll have to go to the suite to get change when we get in the hotel." He said, speaking more to himself than to Nachuket, and checked his watch again.

He heard Nachuket chuckle and levelled a glare at him.

"Sorry, bhahiya." Nachuket said, but continued to grin.

"What?"

"Bhabhi's going to be really happy to see you, that's all."

He dropped his glare and sighed heavily. "If we make it in time."

"We'll make it. Things got off to a late start."

"You were already there?"

Nachuket nodded. "I left Rashi at home with kids to come and get you."

"Was …" He hesitated. "Was she alright?"

Nachuket nodded, but averted his gaze.

Jai glared at him again. When Nachuket turned to look at him once more, he gave him a pointed, questioning look.

"Bani bhabhi was just a little sad, that's all." Nachuket said.

"Because I'm not there." He said, again speaking more to himself.

"She thinks …" Nachuket began and then stopped.

"What?" Jai demanded.

"She thinks you didn't want to come anyway."

"How do you know that?"

"I heard her talking to Pia." Nachuket said, and quickly continued when he saw a murderous look come over his brother's face. "I wasn't eavesdropping or anything like that. I was standing by the door with Rohan, I was going to hand over him to Bani bhabhi, and she was just talking. That's when she said that she knew you didn't want to come, not even for her. Because..." He looked away from his brother. "Because you didn't approve when she decided to work, professionally."

His mouth curved into a frown and he shook his head. He wasn't happy with her announcement of working professionally at first alright, but he was getting used to the idea now. He didn't mean to come across as a control freak husband who would stop her from accomplishing what she so profoundly came to cherish doing now. He just wanted her to give him some time to adopt her decision. Coming to the present, Jai frowned when he heard Nachuket chuckling again.

"What?"

"Nothing." Nachuket said and then when he saw his brother wasn't going to let it drop he continued. "It's just that it's not true." He fidgeted under his brother's glare. "There's nothing you wouldn't do for her... That's all I was trying to say." He finished quickly and averted his eyes again.

Jai tried to maintain his glare at Nachuket, but couldn't hold back the slight grin that crossed his face. He shook his head again. Nachuket was right. There was nothing he wouldn't do for his wife.

The love of his life.

He was somewhat off-put that she didn't realize it, and to some extent relieved that she didn't realize it. He wanted her to know just how much power she had over him, while at the same time, he was afraid of what his wife would want him to do next.

He knew just how important tonight was for her. He had sat back and watched her organizing and planning and scheduling things for weeks before he left for Mauritius.

Jai frowned as it struck him that she had rarely mentioned him attending, or being involved during all of those weeks.

In fact, when he told her he had to get out of the country for a couple of days or even a week, he recalled her only nodding her head, as if she expected it all along.

When he'd called her earlier on to tell her he might be overdue for another day, he had heard the disappointment in her voice. But as he replayed their conversation in his head, he realized that he had heard the acceptance as well, as if she also expected it all along.

He was jolted out of his thoughts as the limousines came to a stop, the driver announcing that they were outside of the hotel's entrance door.

Jai stepped out of the limousines and sighed heavily as Nachuket handed him the bag from the trunk. He was amazed that they didn't get pulled over, considering how fast the driver was going.

"I'll be right out." He muttered as he collected the key card to his suite and went to change right away as he interred his room.

Jai came out of the elevator just a few minutes later, a scowl on his face when he saw Nachuket bite back a smile at the sight of him.

"Let's go." Was all he said and went to search his wife where he thought he'd find her?

The entrance hall of the ballroom was deserted Jai noticed, saved for a few known members, as he made his way to the double doors of the ballroom, only to stop and smile at the sign standing at the huge door.

"The AOS Art-bid to support the AIDs Wing at Saifee Hospital"

Event Organizers:

Seth Singhania

Dr Garv Chaudhary

Bani Walia

Sonali Singh

Jai took a deep breath and adjusted the tie of his tuxedo before stepping into the doors, his eyes searching for his wife.

He felt immense pride for his wife as he took in just how packed the ballroom was, just how flawlessly decorated it was. He knew she was responsible for much of the decorations as well as the paintings, and while he normally didn't pay attention to that sort of thing, he let his eyes take it all in.

His continued to search the room for her and he saw Ranveer approach him, pointing towards a group of people near the stage wordlessly.

He couldn't hold back the smile that crossed his face at the sight of his wife, standing amongst a group of her Co-Art workers, her hair loose and long, flowing down her back, which was left bare by the low-cut, sleeveless blouse with its thin straps of the black-coloured sari she was wearing, that clung to her every beautiful curve. Was he falling for his wife all over again?

His smile turned into a scowl as he watched one of the young Artists, Samar, lean in a little too close to his wife, to say something in her ear. Jia's scowl started to fade when he saw her take a step back, putting some distance between herself and the flirty Artist. Whilst she at the same time keeping a polite smile on her face, the flash of irritation in her eyes evident to her husband across the room.

Jai turned to give Ranveer a questioning look and was pleased to see that Ranveer was watching the flirty Artist with a scowl on his own face as well.

"Mami's been scowling him all night." Ranveer said when he saw his mamaji looking at him, dropping his own scowl to grin.

He set his jaw and started making his way across the ballroom to his wife.

He felt the eyes of many of Saifee Hospital's "respectable" members on him as he walked around tables, he heard their whispers as he passed. "Mr Jai Walia... Bani Walia's husband."... "India's wealthiest man. The multibillionaire tycoon." It was one of the reasons he hated coming to these types of events. The only thing they were interested in was talking about how much money he was worth and his position in the billionaires ranking. Jai ignored their whispers as he wound his way through the crowd.

He was stopped several times on his way to his wife, who still hadn't seen him.

"Oh! Jai!" Pia was the first to stop him. "You look… different." She said, and then quickly added. "Handsome! You look very handsome. Bani di will be so pleased. She didn't think you would be here tonight, you know."

He excused himself and continued winding his way through the tables.

"Well look who's here." Tarun said. "It's about time you showed up. Your wife figured you'd not be."

Jai shook his head and stepped around him, only to be stopped again.

"Jai! What the hell are you doing here?" Roshni demanded, grabbing onto his arm. "Don't tell me you're here and left millions of money to go waste only to come here? I know how much you hate these things. What the hell did she say to make you..." He, coldly, removed her hand from his arm and stepped around her; ignoring her calling his name after him. He wondered when she would learn to mind her own business, and stop meddling into his private life.

Jai was just a few feet away from her when his cousin who had been so close to him more than his won sister stepped before him.

"Jai!" Karuna exclaimed, throwing her arms around him for a brief hug. "I knew you'd make it! Bani will be so happy to see you!"

His eyes were trained on his wife and the artist, who was trying to take his wife's arm in his hand. Jai saw his cousin turn around and look at where his glare was directed and she turned back to him, grinning.

"Oh, don't worry about Samar. He's just a harmless friend. And besides, all Bani could talk about tonight is you and how she wished you were here."

"It's not Bani I'm worried about." He muttered. "But it's good to see you too sis." Jai kissed her before he stepped around her, heading straight for his wife.

"You look beautiful in sari." He heard the artist say.

"Yes, Samar, my husband says so all the time." He heard his wife reply with irritation and he bit back a smile.

He stood right behind her and levelled a deadly glare at the young artist who immediately dropped his hand from wife's arm when he made eye contact with him over Bani's shoulder.

His wife turned to see what had caused the terrified look to come over Samar's face and her face lit up with a huge smile.

"Jai!" She said, surprised beyond her believe, and then threw herself into his arms. "I can't believe you're here!"

Jai glared let his glare drop once Samar was gone and tightened his arms around his wife, almost lifting her up off the ground as he squeezed her to him. "I'm sorry I'm late, sweetheart." He said softly against her ear.

"I'm sorry." She apologised stroking his chest, feeling guilty. "I didn't think you'd come tonight." She said when they pulled away, blinking back happy tears.

"So I've heard." Jai muttered.

"What was that?"

He shook his head and stepped back to let his eyes travel up and down her figure. "You look stunning." He said passionately "Kisi ki nazar na lagjaye." He was fairly envious.

"You too, hubby." She smiled at him, her eyes poring over his tuxedo-clad form. "I forgot how tuxedo suits you so perfectly."

He let her take his hand in hers and lead them to their table, where Karuna and her husband Dr Garv Chaudhary, Sonali and Seth as well as Pia and Pushkar were all seated.

Jai nodded to everyone in acknowledgment and then sat down, moving his chair closer to his wife's.

"You made it just in time for dinner." Pia said to him from across the table.

"We got off to a late start." His wife explained.

"But you missed Bani's speech." Dr Garv sneered at him from next to Karuna, ignoring the glare she shot him.

Jai turned to look at his wife. "You gave a speech?" He was somewhat surprised. He watched his wife as she gave Garv an aggravated look before turning to him.

"It was a last minute thing. And it wasn't a speech, really. It was just me thanking everyone behalf of AOS for coming tonight and taking part of the art bid. And then said my way how the money would be very useful for Hospital, that's all."

"Your wife was brilliant." Seth spoke up. "It's a shame you weren't here to see it."

Jai ran one hand along his wife's bare arm, ignoring the famous artist's remark. "I'm sorry I missed it." He said apologetically.

"Don't be." Bani said. "I'm just glad you managed to ca..." She stopped short when she heard his cell phone going off, a discouraged look coming over her face.

Jai grabbed his phone and saw that it was Mohan. So he turned to his wife apologetic eyes and he said. "I'm sorry, it's Mohan, I have to take this..."

"It's okay." She said quickly, her eyes downcast. "I understand... it's important."

Jai muttered a curse under his breath at the look of disappointment on her face and got up, answering his phone as he strode out of the ballroom.

He spent more time on the phone with Mohan than he'd anticipated, but he had some very essential business issue to discuss with him during his trip. Partners as they were now after taking over together a new major steel company in India.

He was just winding up the phone call when Nachuket came hurrying out of the ballroom, looking for him. "Mohan, I have to go." He said abruptly and hung up the phone.

"What's wrong?" Jai asked Nachuket.

"Bani bhabhi wanted to say no, but someone submitted her painting without her permission, and it was not for the charity or anyone else to buy, so she couldn't do it. But she still doesn't want anyone to buy her self-painting. And that artist, Samar, is already..."

"Slow down." Jai interrupted him. "What's going on?" He said as they walked back into the ballroom, a confused look coming over his face when he saw his wife up standing the side of the stage, along with couple other female and male artists.

"It's an auction." Nachuket explained. "Who ever bids the highest for each painting gets to have them forever."

"Bani put up her painting for sale?" He asked, astonishingly.

"No, bhahiya. That's what I was trying to tell you. Someone else submitted her painting without her permission."

"Who would..." Jai began, and then stopped short when he noticed Roshni smirking evilly, looking back and forth between Bani standing the side of the stage and him standing at the doorway.

His eyes then moved to his wife, who looked decidedly uncomfortable as bids were being called out on her self-painting. He noticed Tarun calling out a bid and felt begrudging gratitude for him.

Then suddenly Roshni was at his side. "Your little wife is awfully popular, Jai, just like Monalisa." She said with a smirk.

"Why did you do it, Roshni?" He demanded through gritted teeth.

"Aw, come on, Jai. I know you didn't want to be here. This is just an art-auction to support Saifee Hospital. Besides, you're so tired, why don't you go home? Or else sit with your wife and enjoy the rest of the event." She said.

"Oh." Nachuket groaned out.

Before Jai could reply to Roshni, he heard someone outbid Tarun, and his blood began to boil.

Just as the bidding was about to end, he shrugged Roshni's hand off of his shoulder and called out, loud enough to be heard throughout the ballroom.

"One crore!"

He watched his wife's eyes meet his across the ballroom and he grinned as her face lit up with a smile.

He walked on the way to the stage as everyone in the ballroom turned to look at him, stunned. Sonali, who was taking the bids from a platform on stage, said. "Did you say … 'Ek crore?' Mr. Walia?"

Jai nodded his head, his eyes locked with his wife's. He made sure to shoulder Samar out of the way; tearing his eyes from his wife's to cast another deadly glare his way.

"Well." Sonali said. "Is there anyone else who would like to bid higher?" She paused, and when there came no reply, she went on. "Going once, twice, three times! Jai's Angel, sold, for 'Ek crore' to Mr. Jai Walia." She couldn't help but smile wide.

He held his hand out to his wife, who immediately placed hers in his, and drew her closer while everyone women inside the ballroom watched, envying his wife.

Jai felt her cling to his arm as he walked them out of the ballroom, stopping when they reached Roshni. "You're going to answer for this later." He vowed, his eyes fierce. "I just hope you're well prepared for it."

"J... Jai." Roshni stammered. "I was only..."

"Save it, Roshni." He said dismissing her, and walked away pulling his wife along with him.

"Where are we going?" Bani asked, loving how Roshni's scheme frittered away.

"Wait right here." He told her as they entered the entrance hall, near the elevators toward the reception area.

She watched him walk back to her after asking the receptionist for something. The receptionist obeyed her boss's request immediately, and handed over to him the key-card to probably one the suites in the hotel. Were they going to spend the night her? It seemed so, her body shivered with excitement and anticipation.

He pulled his wife into the elevator when it opened, just as Roshni walked into the reception area. Giving her a pointed smirk, he leaned down to press a heated kiss to wife's lips as the elevator's door closed. He felt his wife pull back from him a moment later and released her.

"Jai." She said, slightly breathless. "We can't stay her. We have to... I have to..."

"You have to do what I say, jaan." He interrupted her. "I paid money for your self-portrait. So I own you tonight."

"Is that so?" She said playfully, somewhat offended.
He nodded, leaning down to nuzzle his lips against her neck.

"One crore money you paid for my painting, and you think you own me?" She said as she tilted her head to the side, giving him better access.

He raised his head to grin down at her and nodded again, pulling her back against him, his mouth covering hers, seeking entrance. He felt her body melt against his as their tongues met and mated.

"And what about our kids?" She enquired breathlessly.

"Mmm... I'll make sure you're at home in the morning before they wake up, sweetheart." He promised, and then went back to what he was doing; kissing her senselessly.

She waited for a moment, and then said to make sure she heard him right. "Promise...?"

"I promise." He said, and pulled back as the elevator dinged at their floor. He led her to the hallway and lone set of bedroom doors on their floor.

Jai opened the door to their suite and then turned to his wife, swooping her up into his arms as his mouth found hers again.

He kissed her slowly, thoroughly, robbing her of her breath as he carried her all the way through the luxurious suite of their bedroom with its king-sized bed.

Soon after he was putting her down on her feet, pulling away from her "You are extremely gorgeous tonight." He growled, grinning at the dazed look on her face.

"Well." She breathed out when she recovered enough. "Now that I owe you a 'thank you' for buying my painting, whatever you wish me to do to show my gratitude?" She asked raising one eyebrow saucily as she spoke.

He let her sit on the bed, then bent down and lifted one of her legs, pulling off the black; strappy sandal from her foot, then did the same to the other sandal before standing straight.

"I want to hear your speech." He said, his eyes twinkling at the surprised look on her face.

"My speech?" She asked, dumbfounded.

"Yes." He said and pulled at his tie, loosening it before pulling it off completely.

"Mm... my speech." She repeated again, stammering as he whipped off his jacket and then started to unbutton his shirt.

"Yes." He said again to ensure.

"Fair enough." She nervously let out a bewildered little laugh and cleared her throat. "Ladies and gentlemen." She began and then stopped short when he pulled his shirt open, revealing his sculpted chest and flat abdomen.

"Go on. I'm listening." He said, stepping towards her and reaching his hand behind her to slip the pin securing the pallav of her sari and then let it fall down off her shoulder before his hands reached behind her, and unhooked the clasp of her blouse.

"Lae... ladies and gentlemen." She began again. "I want to thank you all behalf of the entire AOS group, for ca... coming tonight." She stammered as he slowly slid the blouse from her shoulders.

He stepped back and looked at her expectantly. "I'm still listening." He encouraged her.

"This Art-bid." She continued after taking a short, deep breath. "Is to support the AIDs Wing at Saifee Hospital." She stopped and swallowed hard nervously, when he removed his shirt completely, tossing it aside. "It was an effort of kindness and love put together by the AOS Art group..." She paused when he reached his hands around her again to unhook her lacy, strapless bra, flinging it aside just like he did with his shirt.

"Keep going." He said, his voice rough as his eyes travelled over her form.

"I think we should just skip the whole speech tonight..." She murmured breathlessly. "... and call home before I run out words." She finished, her breath hitching as he pulled back to look at her.

"Good idea." He said with a lecherous grin. He bit back a grin at his wife's stammering. "But you must tell me the ending part now."

~*~*~*~

"Cheers!... Cheers.... Cheers!" Cheered the three drunken men sitting at the Bar smiling devilishly.

"I so can't wait to see Roshni's face tomorrow morning after her dream night with her dream man." Nachuket said, making laugh the other two men.

"What she had been expecting, and what had happened to her, poor Roshni!" Ranveer said and they all laughed again.

"What have you turned me into, you two devils? But Sonali turned out worse than you two. What a fantastic idea she suggested. I assure you, Roshni will always remember this night for the rest of her life." Tarun said sadly, and they all laughed once again, only this time so hard as if they never did before.

~*~*~*~

He would never forget the way she laughed the first time he saw her in the ballroom, Samar smiled, looking down at the woman who he had come to realise now how much he was attracted to her more than he ever did with any other of his previous female partners. It had been the single most maniacal, completely insane sound she'd ever made when he followed her in her drunken state to help her get safely to her bedroom. And as she snatched back her key-card from his hand and straggled to open the door by herself, he snatched back the damn card and did it just before he scooped her up and enter the room. He had the distinct feeling he was going to regret that decision.

One moment they were arguing and the following they were laying skin on skin in her bed and suddenly she lifted her head to look at him. He was lost in her eyes instantly, the way he'd been throughout the night, and missed some of what she said. But, in part, it was something like 'I can't believe we did what we just did'. And he was launched back in his mind, to what happened between them while ago. The way she'd clung to him, even after he'd teased her repeatedly about the unlikely existence of a business-like witch. And he remembered the way she'd looked at him, when he simply couldn't stop himself from doing the opposite, looking away from her magnetic green- blue eyes.

He hadn't been able to express in that moment, with her staring up at him in all her female last word, but somewhat lovely glory, how beautiful he found her, so he'd resigned himself to kissing her until neither of them could speak anyway. But somewhere between his memories and her lips, the thought had occurred to him, that he didn't think he'd ever really had a choice in the matter. And, if he had, he'd obviously made the right one, no matter what her twisted, warped, beautiful mind thought of it, tonight. So he was forced to say now what drove them to where they were wasn't something that was going to end in one night.

"What do you mean it's not going to end here?" Roshni demanded, looking the impossible man who just happened to ravish her without any hesitant on her part. She just followed him to wherever he was taking them without even thinking.

"It means, I'm attracted to you. And I want to continue further what we started to night.... hmm." He reached to toy with her hair while she searched some smart remark to turn him off. "I like the way your hair smells." Then she surprised him settling against him in defeat.

"How many of your female opposites have you used to impress that line after making love to them?"

She hand never felt with anyone else what she felt with him tonight. He was supper confident man with so much cold-patience in him. And he'd actually made her run out of words during their argument. No one did that to her.

No one!

"I let you have your answer if you promise to let me paint you. And don't work-up your head on something that isn't the case. I just want to paint you. You can keep the painting once it's complete."

"You're mad... man"

"You just find out now, I came to realise that while ago." He pulled her closer.

"So where do we go from here, Ree?"

"My name is Roshni, not Ree...!"

"Relax, I know that. I just like calling you Ree. It suits your personality much more."

..................................~~*~~...................................

"Was that the end of your speech, sweetheart?" He murmured in her ear later that night when he finally got his breath back as he gathered her in his arms to lay her against his chest.

He felt her struggle to lift up on one elbow to look down at him.

"I can't believe you bid one crore for my painting." She said with a smile.

"It was for a good cause." He said.

"You don't know what it means to me and the Hospital."

"I wasn't talking about the charity." Jai said, the corners of his mouth hitching up in a grin.

He watched as she giggled and then her expression turned serious. "Money or not." She began. "… You own me no matter what." She said, and then cuddled him lovingly.

Jai reached up to run one hand through her wild, tangled hair. "And I would have paid ten times as much for any painting of you, sweetheart. Because everything of you is mine as I'm yours only." And he meant.

So was his threat towards Roshni. She crossed her line and he was going to make sure she paid heavily once he was back in his office the following day. Right now he was content and boneless after the passionate love he shared with his wife. Tomorrow he was going to enjoy and make up for every bit of his missed moments with his kids while he was overseas away from them.
