Apparently it’s a prequel as well as the sequel. So we get to see both Mufasa in his childhood as well as Simmba in his adulthood as the king of Pride lands. It’s his and Nala’s daughter Kiara to whom the story of Mufasa and his brother Taka/scar is being narrated to.
