Harry Potter series even with majior portions of the book got cut in the movies (goblet of fire cut was unforgivable) but it's still my favorite book to screen adaptation

Thank you for sharing that detailed response. And never apologize for having a lot to say. That's what this thread and forum are for!
I think I will agree with you on both The Hating Game and RWRB.
I did much prefer the movies.
RWRB maybe because the book plot lost me too many times and I ended up taking a looooong time to finish it. I read the book after I watched the movie, so that could be a reason too. I didn't really miss much of what the movie didn't have that the book had (June & some other stuff) because at that point I was invested in the movie characters and the book ones were just an extension of them for me. I think that could have made a difference to how I experienced them and my enjoyment of them. Whereas my friend who read the book first did not enjoy the movie much.
The Hating Game was a pretty unremarkable book for me. The movie was meh too, but at least it was quicker to watch than read
So I've read RWRB many times over the years. I read it when it first came out and remember loving it. I re-read it two years ago when Casey released their third book (which is honestly my favourite of the three), last year because the movie was coming out and since I'm more into audiobooks now I also listened to it last month. I've liked it less and less each time I come back to it; there's always something new that upsets me or (because I've read such a variety of LGBT romances in the last two years) something that I think another book handled more respectfully and with care. Alex and Henry themselves aren't super different in the movie compared to the book, like, if I shook the book then Taylor Zakhar Perez would absolutely fall out. I think the changes made to the supporting cast were needed, but I'm also nervous because of the sequel since the author of the book is coming on to co-write the script with the director. I think the writing of the book itself is good - Casey's always been able to have a balance of gut-wrenching prose and very gen z humour that I really appreciate, I just think RWRB is an example of some of their worst characterization.
I wish I could scrub The Hating Game from my mind, that book was genuinely so boring, the movie was only as fun as it was because Lucy Hale is a very charismatic actress and added some much-needed personality (and a backbone) to our main character. Still think she deserved a better screen partner though.
Two of my favourite adaptations are
Looking for Alaska
Good Omens
These two books and series have had their authors being present on the set and giving us the truest material and more! Although I read the books after watching the shows but both versions are fire!!!
Narnia and LoTR has already been discussed, books definitely did better but if they come up with show adaptations, it could work.
I didn't mention MCU for the same reason. I've read some of the comics... seen all the movies/series and I enjoy them both without comparing. The MCU is more of an inspiration than a true adaptation... and while they borrow some parts from the original comics, they put their own spin to it and I actually like that. It's easier to see them separately that way.
Something that's also true for Sherlock Holmes. He's my fav book character, so much so that I afraid to watch anything related to it because I was sure to be disappointed. Having liked the Iron Man movies made me try Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock movie.... and as expected... I didn't like it much
. Made me even more wary of the BBC series but I finally watched it a year or so ago and absolutely loved it. It helps that the script and characterizations are different enough that I can avoid comparison with the source material. Because if I really start thinking that way, then the series isn't true to the books either (no matter how many seem to think they got the characterizations right.... but uh... they didn't
). Still won't beat the books for me, but I can and have re-watched the series as well as the RDJ movies and just thinking of them as sorta fanfiction rather than adaptation helps me look at them individually which in turn lets me savor them too.

@Red I mentioned something similar in my comment although my grouse is more about the cuts in the fifth part (Order of the Phoenix)
. I still don't understand how the longest book of the series could be made into one of the shortest movies
.
The marauders' history being cut from Prisoner of Azkaban is also up there in my list of cuts in the movies that anger me. Nonetheless, I like the movies too, and keep binge-watching them from time to time.

I have issues with GOF the most cause everything related to Barty Crouch jr , Winky , Bagman , Fred and George's bet and how they eventually got their capital funds for their joke shop was cut in the movies
GOF is my favorite book from the series and it was sad to see all these plot points getting cut
OOTP i didn't mind cause i didn't want to see more of Umbridge
