Arre recently this uncle j8 was in maamla legal hai ravi Krishan ka friend jo woh bhanwana( I think that was the name ) main whole bajwana chahta thasmiley36 and baaki as Shweta said other things main karta raha hai chores mote role but was Fab as Nikki yes yes yes I did watch it I was soooo impressed and in love that I wanted to take time tk absorb it last night wowwwww Now that is what you call a BIOPic..

Imtiaz is back with e vengeance in the finest form if his ever....❤️❤️❤️❤️👌👌👌👌👌 I mean you know it us gonna be good when for starters only his characters are not self victimizing selves and are totally owning up to their life choices and are clear in their hearts about everything haha. More on that In a bit

Ab romeo juliet ko real world main survive karna hai na.. they are still too idealistic and dumb in that way thag khudko dono shehzada shehzadi samjh rahe hain..she literally pisses me off the moment she opens her eyes she goes farhaad farhaad as if he is her nauker to serve her everything in bed and then safaai kar li toh she wanted a medal from him ke look I did so much work.. 🙄 I did enjoy hin soft trolling her though on that.. but mostly this episode was feeling too slow and dragged to me too caz they were trying ro set up new society wale characters and mehhhh kisko intrest hai usme.. or a long scene of madam killing 🐀 .

They want to do the whole equality ka point with her being why women have to do work and do house chores too as they were arguing over khana kaun banaye and farhaad was like I can't do office and then home thing so they agreed on day per day duty which was only sweet part and important to me.. rest was just feeling too ehh caz saath main toh thay bhi nahi FF ke scenes this week as such

Even after all the good reviews, I was wondering if it will live up to the hype but it had me gripped from the get go.

This is like watching a whole new Imtiaz with this movie....I don't remember any of his movies being this tightly edited and stylized in a long while now....don't know if the subject matter was such to pull such a film out of him but he really hit it out of the park in terms of execution.

I was toh so gripped with the beginning montage only and just watching in amazement how well the music and visuals flow together. All my wariness about the soundtrack was absolved while watching the movie....the songs are bang on with the way they've been used in the film. And Diljit's singing voice has all been utilized for Chamkila's actual songs so you get that whole flavor from there too.....the fact that Diljit's background also mirrors this in terms of being that folk singer who sang in villages while he was coming up really adds to the authenticity of that entire bit.

Parineeti's singing was kinda weak for her part but otherwise she did decent in her role and Amarjot-Chamkila's relationship was also nicely shown.

Chamkila toh bigamist nikla yaar.....lol and they didn't try to whitewash it in any way....saamne se dikhaya ki he did give dhoka knowingly. And all the times he tries to act his way out of tough situations but at the same time he's genuinely an almost naive and servile man in many ways.

The way they creatively translated all the Punjabi lyrics of the vulgar songs into Hindi with that text accompaniment and so much use of split screen I've never seen before in an Imtiaz film.

I also liked how they addressed the hypocrisy of society that so many people were on Chamkila's case for composing lewd songs but not a single person asked why his songs were so popular with the masses and no one questioned the masses for listening to his music....lol if his songs were really playing at all the weddings and parties, tab kahaan mar gayi thi censorship? Bas singer ko hi pakadne baithe the? lol

Woh Sumo ke Papa from EDKV2 was the cop investigating the Chamkila murder in this one and most of the story is told in FB through narration to him....lol

Diljit was just FAB.....he has taken it to another level as an actor with this one....hope he wins some award for this.

+100 to everything you said .

Marvelous Work from everyone involved but esp Imtiaz and Diljit the way they teleport us to that world right from the very first frame the execution when you are least expecting it to the montage you are there in that world holding your breath to have it unfold ..it doesn't take a min to get kto the main thing and then hold onto that till last frame that is a big win.. the way they have merged and transitioned to the real footage the real things the attention to details highlighted more in them it leaves you with your jaws dropped caz woahhhh the hard work just shines.chotu choti si cheez main they have gone for perfection. I was also 🫡😲 at the casting of all the supporting cast too when you see the real pictures and all it almost feels like a reincarnation of sorts hi..

I loved that unlike other biopics it is so matter of Fact and neutral even if it does raises the questions and highlights the double standards in such a crystal clear way yet manages to keep itself away from getting into the very direct slander and controversies..sab kuch bohat saaf hai about everything but yet so generic that one cannot object to it. Matlab in baaja itself it tells us the 2 sides of the coins and that is a constant throughout..apne gareeban main koi nahi jhankta and it is so easy to target someone else while being a society watchdog when you are very much the same as others as was shown with the character of that Police officer..closet fan toh tha hi but on surface nahi nahi kar raha tha..

Ashleelta thi given but again who was demanding for it who was buying the records who were the people demanding it at every event ..he never said he ain't saying bad stuff infact they have shown him pretty threatened and ready to mend his ways right away without any resistance at first too..but then again everything he was saying was what he saw all around so koi fiction se toh bana nahi raha tha sab stories and songs and that time period and abhi bhi mostly yehi fantasies yehi sab toh hota tha and hai in these villages. I liked the way that old lady accepted that hum bhi toh yehi sab insinuations and intentdos gaate hain in our functions in tappe and all..yeh sab toh normal hai but when it came to him getting success it became slander when ironically these women were very much taking pleasure out of his sexual writings and nasty songs..as shown in naram kaalja and otherwise the very women jinki izzat was threatened were enjoying it .. sochne ki baat toh hai and aaj bhi yehi hai..everybody has to find a source of.pleasure yeh 3rd class fantasies and shows and books aaj bhi aise hi toh nahi like kiye and padhe jaate..

Anyway I loved the performances diljit just dil moh leta hai that honesty in his presence only is enough but here toh he has totally became chamkila exceptional talent he is and he does such a mammoth performance so honest so simple so heart touching. The concerts were so much fun despite the objectionable content caz the tunes the music the singing just totally sticks with you and yoh start enjoying even though you di have the thought ke kya hai..and they have shown it multiple tim3s in the film too that people enjoyed the mahaul he used to create so much more like woh recording studio wala. GOSH I HAVE SO MUCH to say about so many things in it

I also lived how they have not done it chapter by chapter and overwhelmed us like that manikshaw jahan achi acting and perofmencae bhi feels like a chore and guaranteed totally different films but I mean hain tih bioocs hi na..I liked how they balanced the personal and professional lives of amarjot and chamkila it was never we have to get done with this chapter..hahah chamkila badi seedhe se chuoa bhi gaya apna sach but yeh bhi sach hai ke usne toh jhoot nahi bola everyone assumed it was the way and he managed to get his way out of it..and was so matter of fact about it too..

Man it really is haunting to see the last few min as it all comes together simply outstanding but also heart breaking to see the hippocrisy the materialistic nature of everything around ..basic human greed and lack of humanity.. the way the leech families comes to loot ..cannot even give them the dignity in their deaths. lack of respect the way even with deadbodies people more intrested in photoshoots and fickleness..nobody actually cared that such a tragedy happened..it was like suddenly they were no one no value nothing.. and ofcourse Vida Karo with the beautiful lyrics by Irshad and arijit singing it so beautifully. It hits different as you said..the way they were pretty much laawaaris hi in their last journey ..kisi ko real dukh nahi hua.nobody lost anything really.

That whole domestic angle was shown very nicely too and them lovestory was so sweet and simple. I eso want to applaud pari caz she finally gave a performance worth her caliber.. and more so caz she had to do more with mostly her expressions her eyes and body language dialogue part toh was very little for her..the tu kya jaane song made me smile..

Oh also liked how despite the success and such huge growth they have stayed rooted only and that is caz chamkila ka nature hi woh tha..it was really refreshing to see that and then ofcourse so many parallels with Rockstar itself Imtiaz seems to have sowrn to prove everyone wrong with this one.. 2oh jo kaam ka saaf intention hai na that came jumping out..

Love love love it......

Also really remarkable is how they have merged rehman's soundtrack with chamkila's music it is such different pallettes and styles yet not for a moment it feels like it is 2 different soundtracks itself in the movie..and also how Rehman'a music so beautifully compliments and elevates the film the situations takes the supporting role yet come out strong after you watch the film..but it let's chamkila's music to be the star doesn't overshadow or anything

Edit:

Oh but I was really bothered by the spelling of Punjab as PANJAB throughout ..I don't know why they did it but plz nooo low key was finding it offensive

Word to your whole review, yaarsmiley27....you said it all smiley31

Diljit took this film to another level I feel....without him yeh ROOH nahin milti is story ko....and that helped pull something different out of Imtiaz also who had kinda started making all same kind of films in the mould of Rockstar, LAK, Tamasha etc.

Chamkila is basically what Rockstar could never be cuz only an ACTUAL singer and a director who wants to focus on showing the building blocks of creating music can create such a film.....I mean imagine any actor trying to do those scenes of Diljjit sitting over a well trying to compose, hum snippets of music as a song comes together in his mind....magan in his own self, practicing over and over.....the fact that it was an actual musician and singer portraying that gave it another level of authenticity. And Imtiaz clearly shot everything with painstaking detail....kahin bhi rushed feel nahin aaya for a scene....they collected so much footage and then took such good care of it in the edit also.

Parineeti also did a good job of Amarjot but the real Amarjot's voice was SO powerful in the high notes ki woh obviously thoda lacking lagega with Parineeti singing....upar se Diljit singing in his own voice side pe toh woh gap in singing quality really stands out....lol but yeah otherwise acting-wise she did good. Tu Kya Jaane really grew on me after watching the film.....without a single proper romantic scene, they managed to show passion between these two characters merely with the act of her closing the door of the room after subtly inviting him in. Such a chaste love story they had almost for two people going around all of Punjab singing R rated songssmiley36

And yeah the ending is so haunting with the greedy relatives jumping in to nocho them for money always....duniya ka stark truth dikha diya at the end of the day.....jis aadmi ko paapi bol bol ke curse kiya, usi ke paise lootne ke liye, uski death ki numaish karne itne saare aa gaye. Vida Karo really hits you hard in the end all the more.

I feel like the last Imtiaz film that I liked so much was Highway but in a totally different way. This one toh is many levels above that in terms of a total package.

LOL even I was wondering about that spelling and I feel like there's a story behind it.....they wouldn't spell it as Panjab without reason....maybe they were trying to say that if you write it out in the language script, the spelling and sound is not the PU sound but more a "Pah" sound.....and technically we don't say PUNJA, we say PANJA.....it's derived from the word for FIVE only na....panj ton banda hai panja....hand. So I guess there is liberty to spell it either way.

I wonder if the PU wala spelling is again thanks to the British pronouncing it as PUUNJABsmiley36.

And word about the blending of Rahman's music and Chamkila's music....was watching a bunch of IVs since yesterday and basically Rahman helped set up those recreations and live sync sound recordings of those perfomances of Chamkila songs too....so that is why it all feels so closely in sync...it wasn't like they were just using Rahman to create his own songs for the film, but he helped with how they arranged Chamkila's music in the film too.

Makes sense..I thought along the similar lines hi but still all of a sudden the change feels distracting..even if it sounds more accurate..Caz woh U wale spelling hamesha dekhe hain and it is ingrained now even if people end up pronouncing it totally wrong esp white people lol

I finally watched Fighter also....and quite enjoyed itsmiley36

Started off a little slow I have to say initially with the whole team building....Deepika ka character initially thoda stiff lagaa but then it grew on me how they showed her integrating into the team as the new person and the way she bonded with Patty. Bahut hi subtle rakhi inki love story ya jo bhi rather than making it some more in your face romance......lol

But main pull was definitely the action sequences with the planes especially....waah some of the stuff was really cool especially the air fights in the last 30 min and that last action sequence also was reminiscent of the big scale of Pathaan and stuff.

I also liked that the movie tried to show a complete picture of the Air Force rather than just doing a little flashy bit at one airbase...like they even showed the academy, the officer ceremonies and all....

Hrithik ka character was actually kaafi restrained despite being set up as the swag wala fighter pilot....I was so sure KSG ke character ko maarenge but they killed off the other guy instead....lol chalo KSG did decent in this. I liked the bond between Sanjeeda and HR's character....thehraav tha usmein.

Yeah I told you it is a decent film masala entertainment hai even if they do go into jingoism too esp for the action and cgi work which was pretty impressive I enjoyed the top gun inspired sequences but executing them so well too..

I watched premalu last night on hotstar and hahah highly recommend it..they don't make such cute fun films anymore .no wonder it is in top Malayalam films.of the year already..matlab Malayalam cinema is on another plane as always already .. in first quarter only 6 amazing fantastic very different and wowzers films all from different genres but man top class stuff do watch kt
