Anju ji, in TN temples people make this sound usually when either people are possessed to drive away ghosts/ spirits... or when there is animal sacrifice. Literally. So it is kind of scary.. I also say the Devdas movie song yaar, no such sound was there.

The sound made is called 'ulu' (if you listen closely, that's what you'll here) and in Bengali culture, it's done for all important occasions (weddings, pujas etc). It's considered auspicious and well yeah, not full scale exorcism stuff but it is believed to ward off negative energy/evil spirits to ensure a prosperous new beginning

Initially in few episodes he was there, even once Ani also scolded him and asked him to serve food. Later onwards only Jhanak working, every time they are saying Shyam Dada on chutti.
