Other Queens

Karuwaki or Charuwaki was second queen of Ashok and mother of his son Tivala. In queen's edict, she is mentioned as Dwitiya Devi and Tivala Mata. Devanampiya orders her charities to be recorded in her name. Different scholars have different views on this edict and character of Karuwaki. Due to this edict some scholars also think she was resident of Kaushambi. Her being a Princess of Kalinga is a myth so far. It's a myth spread by popular media. No contemporary source of Ashok mentions Karuwaki except his edict and that edict is not a love declaration. Also she is not mentioned as princess of Kalinga in it.
