Ramji personally definitely had only one wife, but he never made a rule of monogamy. Even after him most had multiple wives(not even talking about Krishna avtaar here). That was his love, not a rule. His brothers took him as an ideal so followed him

Hinduism never promoted monogamy and most influential people had multiple wives. Having more wives was a status of prosperity.

About Uttar Kand, I think that only shows that wife was more like a liability possession back then, hence duty came before possession. He sacrificed his throne for the vachan of his father, similarly he sacrificed his possession for public, but even then maintained the stance, that wherever she might be, she is the queen.

Just as Ram was the king even when is was in forest, same way

One thing I never liked was that women were treated as objects to be possessed because of polygamy. Marriages were name sake when kings had multiple wives. Don't those wife's deserve respect or proper married life.

I wish monogamy was made a rule then perhaps women wouldn't have suffered so much . Neither there would have jealousy, insecurity etc.

But then how would Shri Krishna would do uddhar of those many women... But one thing I agree is only that people should have remarried who could give each wife equal respect and love eg Shri Krishna

I think most of the marriages back then were political or arranged, "love" wasn't even a factor for marriage for most part of human history (across the globe)

I always feel that men were the "providers", they had the property and decision making rights, that's why women had their insecurities and fear because if their men (father/brother/husband/son whatever) started preferring other over them, they would have no say

Even Mantha convinced Keikayi by statement that if Ram becomes the king, Kaushalya will be become chief (and not that if Ram becomes the king, Bharat would be subservient to him, see it was her insecurity for the position that was hit, not her love for her son)

As women start getting say in family and powers of their own such issues will slowly vanish

Thats the thing, they needed to marry to do Uddhar, because independent women was not even a thing of that era. Now if Krishna were here, he wouldn't have married them all, but made them self independent who didn't need father or husband, would have only cared for their security

But they did Tap in their previous life and got boon from Brahma ji to marry Lord Vishnu and Regarding independence we should not look at them from today's lens ... Pativrata Dharma was considered good that's why Sati Anusuya , Tulsi , Sita Mata and Savitri were considered vandaniya and I think it's good if husband is good and Regarding independence I think many women choose to be in service to their husbands and that's why many men also prospered like Revati gave her Kakustha kingdom for Dwarka .... Draupadi was Finance minister, Hidimba , Chitrangda, Ulupi raised their son 's alone without husbands, Satyabhama was warrior... Besides those days people used to follow many types of fast so it was not possible for everyone to work like Kaushalya Ma was praying to Lord Vishnu whole night before vanvas news breakthrough by Lord Ram so when will she in politics ..she used to do so many vrat to Lord Vishnu but Kaikayi used to be in yuddh and politics
